A problem with deluxe versions might be that a lot of new fans, or not hardcore fans, already bought his albums after his death.

Would they be interested to buy a deluxe version of PR when they paid for the original in April/May?

This is a great point. I can't speak for others, but for myself, a deluxe version of PR would have to have some significant enhancements or additions in order for me to buy it. A remastered version would have to have a significant improvement in sound quality for me to buy it because I think that PR sounds good already. The same goes with his other albums.

I would love to see a re-release of the SOTT tour video since that has not be released on DVD in the USA.

I totally agree that footage from his tours should be released...well as a fan, I think it should be released. There are certainly people who will buy videos of his tours. I did some research on his appearance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2011 because I am in love with his performance of "The Love We Make," especially his guitar solos. There are some DVDs circulating, but I don't know if they are legitimate or bootlegs. The video of him performing TLWM on YouTube is pretty good quality...it doesn't look like an audience member filmed it. There are a variety of angles. Also, I know Prince was notorious for telling people to put away their cell phones/cameras. But yeah, I would love to see a whole bunch of his live performances on DVD.

Maybe later.

A deal needs to be negotiated between the heirs and a `record company`.

The heirs are not finalized.

Taxes are unpaid. Value of estate is not certain.

Maybe next year around this time we can see some progress?

Also the official blu-rays of Purple Rain and SOTT which are the two most top quality official videos closest to the master source (the actual films) we've got. They make the DVD's of those two sort of inadequate.

I would not be surprised if nothing was released. I think the inventory for the estate may be the closest we will get to the Vault.

Naturally, I would like releases but at a later date. The estate will take time and the releases will come after that, in my opinon.

If anything is released, I would like to hear it as it is, no inputs from others.

The re-releases I am ok with, but with movies, have some alernate scenes, extra music tracks. It will need a reason to purchase it.

I am curious also about the othe Vaults. One was intriguing enough.

I think they dont realize how much of a battle P had with his masters for there to actually be a remaster...because it should have been happened by now. Michael and Madonna been had that shit done to their catelogue.

Prince was expecting too much money and not delivering enough material for the PR remaster project. (e.g.: extras on the multi disc set besides the remastered album)

Prince was telling the fans to bother WB as they had the PR remaster but in fact Prince was the blockade here.

The estate situation will not necessarily speed up the remaster project, maybe even delay things.

This is just one more thing where Prince did not have his house in order.

I am going to assume (yes, a dangerous thing) that now that the issue of masters ownership is settled (Prince's estate), it opens the door to focussing on how to monetise the estate.

.

Most of the parties involved seem to be interested in money, which is a good thing for the fans.

.

Now, how would they go about creating great releases that do right by Prince's legacy and would be good sellers? That seems to be the issue. Personally, I think that they should work with what is already known and wanted and just take it from there.. In my mind, 40th anniversary editions would do it.

.

40 years to the day, release a suite of products.

-Original Album, remastered

-Album with b sides, mixes and songs considered for that project (maybe combined with previous as deluxe set)

-Any "finished" album project from that time, as it was thought of. (think dream factory, as well as crystall ball and camille for the Sign of The Times release)

-Live album

-Live video/bluray with videos of singles as extras

-The complete mega set, with bonus disc with other outtakes from the period, not thought of for the project

.

This will allow them to re-use some original marketing, market the whole thing in one go and gives clarity about what will be release when. It does mean we won't be getting what we want until 2018 (or in many cases, a few years later), but until then, I am sure they can release an album of his last singles/recordings first, along with a live album & video of the piano & a microphone shows.

.

It seems to be the best way to make money out of the vault, while getting some sales as well. I've been going over and over it in my head, but I can't really think of a better way to do it. It will have tracks being released a number of times, but who cares.

.

Of course, what I want is an immediate release of everything for an exceedingly low price. biggrin

Wouldn't online sales be best? Remove the expensive overhead of production and middle man. The estate could use tidal if they do not want to go thru the creating a website process.

The estate could release hard copies of items, but in limited runs. That could help raise the sale price.

Personally, I would love to see a Paisley Park website, which you can navigate and tie it into the real Paisley Park. You can download tracks, albums, videos, etc. Charge a small membership fee.

I would pay cos I know my funds are going to the estate and not 3rd party business.

.

Yup, I remember it. I think that WB had it right... don't release too often. Build a long lasting marketing campaign around it. I think the "40th" anniversary will actually help.

.

Of course, that doesn't stop the estate/WB from also releasing an unrelated extra release per year, but I think that will actually reduce sales, not improve. Just gut feeling though, I have nothing to back that up.

.

And in regards to low CD sales.. this is why you release it all with one theme and let the marketing work for all of it. Albums, video, documentary.. do a cinematic release for all I care. Make a nice, high quality box set for the people that want something tangible that they can touch and make it available through all digital channels as well. Personally, I would not make it available in the streaming market. At least not until the next set comes out.

.

How else can you make more money out of it? Dumping it all on spotify (or any other streaming service) is not going to make you lots of money either..

The Sign "O" the Times movie was released on DVD by Alliance Atlantis in Canada. I live in America and I got it from a girl Kacy that lives in Canada that I knew on the internet, she talked to me on MSN Messenger and Myspace, she bought it for me and sent it to me in 2005. No, I'm not selling it! I didn't realize how rare it is now. It's out of print now and it's being sold for a ridiculous $484 price on Amazon now. It should be released on DVD by MCA/Universal Studios whom originally released it on VHS. I read that Warner didn't want to release the Sign "O" the Times film after Under the Cherry Moon flopped.
