They may just make the whole awards show a tribute to him.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Yes, and I remember all of those years of them playing music videos that disrespected women. When people referred to it as Black Exploitation Television. I expect it to be as awful -- if not moreso -- than the Billboard tribute.

Yeah that too

Get a life.I mean seriously. Many of us want to see someone step up and show some major love for this artist. So far only snl has done it.

There is 0% chance of that happening. Or -7% if you prefer.

Umm well it's not that hard to imagine, especially since they made MJ the whole entire focus of the show when he passed nearly 2 weeks before the ceremony in '09. I would actually prefer if they just had one good tribute segment instead of focusing the whole show on Prince to be quite honest.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

It isn't a tribute unless Mavis is there.

Dr Funk's latest podcast is up and he had some fairly reasoned suggestions for performances/speakers at the BET tribute. He also made an impassioned plea for *upbeat* and *funk,* no more weeping over Nothing Compares or SISIA. Couldn't agree more.

Well, I think the rumored tributes in my original post cover the non-weepy tracks.

They're the only ones apparently with a brain. Show live clips of Prince. Nobody else living compares to Prince. They may sound like him, or may have recorded with him decades ago, but most artists know better. The Time was not The Time without Prince. When they all went solo, something was missing. It's comedy to think a bunch of bands can show up and everything will be fine. That things won't be cringeworthy, laughable, or downright atrocious.

This is my favorite era of Prince by far. He's so hot, love his hair and attitude, the Rev is funkin' it up. This is why I loved him so much. How could anyone get "gay" out of this ? Haters. And Bruno Mars (or anyone else ) .... uh, no.

And yes, I agree with this. I don't want to see anyone attempt to duplicate or imitate Prince. I only want to see and hear HIM.

They didn't do him justice for the tribute they had him sitting right there for.

(My opinion, not fact), but I've a feeling he picked those...

Makes my point. If Prince selected folks and it was still a failure -- imagine how terrible it will be if BET picks them.

I say go with the line-up in my original post. All of those stars -- how could it possibly go wrong?

What are people dream line up mine is arsenio hall introducing sinead o Connor for nothing compares 2 u
Then a rap battle with mc hammer doing pray which samples when does cry and Tony m.
To finish Eric Clapton doing purple rain.As it is erics favourite song
That would be my dream line up for any sort of tribute. Not sure it is correct for bet awards maybe Grammy's.

An epic rap battle between MC Hammer and Sinead O'Connor. I can dig it.

It could go 2 ways. Either we get Morris and The Time, Sheila, Andre, Chaka, the Revolution, Dez, D'Angelo et AL or we get Trey Songz, NeYo, Justin Timberlake and some of today's R&B/Hip Hop artists and I'm hoping much for the former than the latter.

That would be great. Then I could ask Ernest Sewell to remove him from all of the tributes.

Yes, he always had a home at BET and always supported Black artists, but to claim that they will be the only network to rightfully honor Prince is a bit of a bold statement. [Edited 5/23/16 1:31am]

Isn't everyone here major Prince fans? You all are aware of his feelings about black Americans (a group to which he proudly belonged) and black music, right? I am not sure how this is even a debate.

Sorry but to understand Prince from beginning to end he never did 'black music' Prince did his own style of music. In an unreleased song called Purple Music(1982) he said he was finding a style of his own and get hi. The music to that song was not black or white. Someone here post a like about Prince should be his own genre of music, And that is always how I saw his music Purple Music his own genre. Which encompassed Folk, Rock, New Wave, Gospel, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul, Classical, Middle Eastern and a lot of experimentations and fusion.

Purple Music.
