I think it is a shame for any woman he has ever loved, unfortunately. I really feel for her child loss because I don't know how she is to move on knowing that it is over, but I do think that others are grieving in ways very very understandable. Did you happen to watch Hollywood Ex's?

Ain't none of yall know what went on between a man and his wife. Nor do any of yall know what was in his divorce agreement. What you heard may or may not be true, but consider your source. Unless you heard it from that person's mouth, in this case, Prince or Mayte, don't take it as fact. As far as speculation as to which was "the love of his life" and why he got married or divorced, the only person who knows the truth ain't with us no more. I think we should let the speculation die with him. It belies the respect people say they have for him.

I agree, I believe we can all share opinions and be respectful to that idea as well. I personally have a lot of opinion due to what I see on social media and sure understanding his timeline, but it is only on what I see, or have heard each party say during interview.

I have learned much about Prince from this forum or at most deeper understanding of some portions of the life he valued as private, so it has been great reading so far. I don't think it's fair for people to call eachOther trolls etc though. X

Yeah, just consider your sources. If you heard it from random dude on social media or on the org, it ain't true. If you heard it from your girlfriend's uncle's hairdresser's sister-in-law, it ain't true.

Yes, those ingedients DO cause and have been linked to Birth defects/Cancer/etc. As painful as the experience must have been, nature was sending a signal. M. was not meant to be a biological mother at that time. If she wasn't a Catholic/or had any common sense/courage; the cells (fetus) could have been terminated when they saw the scans before the birth. Thus, sparing much of the pain they were then forced to endure. From recent film/actions, she is as ill eqipped now as she was then. I feel sorry for her adopted child & hope she get's some type of mental health counseling. Clearly, those who surround her are enablers or just as ignorant as she is. She is teaching her child the way to fortune/money/attention is thru using your looks/body and your association to males. She is the antithesis of feminism and it is laughable she gets awards for "empowering" women and young girls when her behavior/history is essentially that of a groupie and defined by the males she has been sexually involved with. Very sad.

Well that wasn't judgemental at all...

1. A baby's body and most internal organs are formed during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. It is mainly during this time that some medicines are known to cause birth defects. There is no known link between using hair dye in pregnancy and having a baby with birth defects.

Hair dye - bumps - best u... pregnancy

www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/Medicine--pregnancy/Hair-dye/
2. Pfeiffer's syndrome is a genetic birth defect - these are NOT caused by hair dye, etc. They would have been in either Mayte's or Prince's genes.
3. We do NOT know if she had an amniocentesis (sp). The testing then - amnio, scans, etc - was much less accurate then today, her or his spiritual beliefs have no bearing on any of it because we DO NOT KNOW.
4. She definitely qualifies as a feminist under Meriam Webster's definition:
feminism, noun fem·i·nism \ˈfe-mə-ˌni-zəm\ -the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities, organized activity in support of women's rights and interests

Yup. I feel where ure coming from. I was being sarcastic re: witnessmystyle's post. Blaming a young woman's character for things that were beyond her control...all while having their facts wrong.

I see stuff from Mayte on FB every now and then and she seems like a great mother with a very happy child. I dont know how witnesstyle is privvy to knowing all these enablers and ignorant people Mayte apparently surrounds herself with. I only know of 2 stars she dated...Prince and tommy Lee...and she didnt hang out with tommy too long. Judged all the people Mayte hangs with as immoral and ignorant enablers...noooo...not judgemental at all....lol.

I am sure my opinions matters none, but just as a Prince fan, who is just joining this board to be amongst others; It seems as though people have this fairytale idea of their time together. Mayte was extremely young, as noted by many, when meeting Prince and then being involved with him so young, of course she is going to be devastated about all of this merely because of that alone. Retrospectively, it has been nearly 20 years since they've divorced, or at least, were technically done with their marriage. (1998, formally 2000) I empathize with her as I am sure means a lot to her, but I can't seem to empathize with her more than anyone else. In my mind, that's extremely unfair, only because it was an extraordinarily long time ago. After the Hollywood Ex's show, though not watching it at the date aired and seeing the episodes after his passing, I became increasingly uninterested in her in relation to Prince. I was not fond of the way in which she and her mother were speaking of him on there. It is even more bizarre to me, some of the behaviors like posting his 20 year old underwear to sell via Instagram, selling merchandise every chance she gets (solely his), etc. in reality, if this was any other situation, I think she would get the term "stalker" and "mentally unstable, harasser" an extremely long time ago had this been a relationship with a regular individual. I am not judging her love or admiration for Prince, I believe it is somewhat sincere. But I think that still attaching her to Prince on sites like Wikipedia, and seeing people continuously market her as Prince's Ex Wife almost 20 years later due to her wanting to be referred to as such, it is slightly worrisome and problematic. Manuela was in his life for eight years, I have more sympathy for her because she knew him the most recent in terms of intimacy and love. I hope and wish well for them both, and I do pray for Mayte's well-being because it is incredibly apparent that she is two decades behind, and obsessed (rightfully so) with something that ended a long time ago. At one hand, perhaps her mum is to blame? Aside from it being a magical story of young loves joy, it is kind of troublesome to know that her mum basically thruster her onto Prince (a walking sex symbol of his time) at such a young age, knowingly. I think people are doing her a great mental disservice by actually saying things like, "That was your one true love, he loved you more than anyone else in the world, even when he died he was thinking of you," so far, I have seen those things as extreme as they sound. That is ludicrous to me and actually untrue, perhaps even buying into her behavior. I think it is also clear to mention that they, according to Mayte numerous times, had contact extremely few times. I don't remember if it was even once or twice, but around there since divorcing. I am not saying that it makes it easier for her but I am saying that I do think she has made his death, much to her demise, about herself. If you look at this objectively, she did not know Prince in terms of the last 16 years. This portion of is life, he matured a great deal, and as in Prince's true nature, he evolved. I think she is very stuck because she was so young and impressionable back then, an older man who happens to be Prince of course would make your life magical. I think she has been very kind to share her feelings but anyone else slightly uncomfortable by the attention continuously put on her? I continuously see things so trivial like, "Prince Ex wife Mayte just got her eyebrows done with us," and actually think it is disrespectful to him to a degree. I suppose none of us accurately know, but can configure ideas, about their relationship during and after. I think she is still connected to many people because of Prince. I don't know, overall, I just think it is unnecessary, the videos saying, "It's MY loss, so sorry for ME, in my world we never divorced, he's the father of my child," is necessary. Many of those things are not true and I think she needs a lot of mental help because it is clear that losing her son 20 years ago never really went away mentally. I think that is actually a big reason she holds onto Prince. She speaks as though it is current, instead of saying was, because that is a time that was long gone. [Edited 5/20/16 6:28am] [Edited 5/20/16 6:29am] [Edited 5/20/16 6:30am]

This.. i could not give less of a damn about Mayte... if he wanted to stay in her life and stay in touch, he would have.. but.. he didnt. I think his TRUE love was Denise.. not Mayte.. Denise was the one who got away..

Comparisons like these are immature and senseless. Denise and Mayte and every woman is worth more than the relationahip they have with a man, I don't care if that man was Prince. In the end, he stayed alone, just like he never went back with Mayte, he didn't go back with Denise or any other woman in his past life and he had a whole decade to do it. Again, you are free to have your beliefs, but you can do that without putting other women down.

Well this is an interesting comment. I wonder what he could have meant by that remark?

More than likely that Prince had a lot of deep dark secrets that Mayte knew about. You forget that Mayte was around the man for 10 years and could have picked up a lot of dirt during that time. There could be stuff about how Prince was dating her, Nona, and Carmen all at the same time. There could be dirt about how Prince really treated the NPG behind the scenes. Thete could be dirt on what really caused and started the battle with WB. Mayte could set the record straight on what really happened during her pregnancy and possibly clear up those damn rumors about her being basically starved during it. Mayte has the power to semi tarnish some of Prince's legacy by revealing what he was doing while he packed her off to a villa in marbella, alone. People were coming back and telling Mayte what that man was doing to her during that period cause they genuinely loved her and could see he was playing her. I am sure that Mayte still has eyes and ears at PP since she was apart of it for so long and they more than likely informed her of Prince's activities in his later years. Mayte is more than likely not going to cash in on this tragedy by writing a book cause her heart always belonged to Prince. Mayte still loves that man to this day and he put her through some serious shit. Some serious shit, broke her heart, and divorced her. According to meltedman, Mayte wanted to stay married and have a family but Prince was done. Mayte could have gotten a bigger settlement and some of the publishing and half of the estate but that poor girl walked away with basically nothing. Mayte did not marry Prince for money or cause she was pregnant, it was cause she loved him. 17 years after those 2 split up, Mayte does not hold one ounce of ill will toward Prince. Mayte has been one of the most sincere people to come forth and grieve for Prince and talk about him since this whole tragedy started and it does not have to be that way. Mayte did not have to show her emotions when she got filmed immediately after the passing. Mayte did not have to plan a memorial several days ago for Prince. People are fucking ragging on this chick for taking a few drinks in a video at a santeria while visibly distraught and saying that her grief is not real cause of it. How the hell would you act if the father of your kids and the love of your life suddenly passed away with no real explanation as of yet and you never had a chance to get closure with this person? A few drinks looks pretty good, eh. A few tattoos look pretty fucking nice, eh. Anything to distract yourself from the overwhelming pain you have. Anything to keep from pondering what your soulmate was thinking and doing in his seconds of life. Anything to keep from wondering if that man was in pain and if he was alone and if he cried out for help. You do not stop loving someone because forces beyond your control rip the both of you apart. I sincerely hope that a will is found and i believe one is going to be found and when it does, Mayte gets everything. No drug addict ass convict wannabe son. No distant cousins from east detroit. No long lost sisters from llanview. No bitchy groupies from the last leg of the original "dirty mind" tour. No asshats who want to claim albums that are not theirs. The only people who should handle Prince's estate and possibly turn PP into museum and do something with that vault are the ones who worked with him the longest and loved him the longest. Those people are Susan Rogers, Wendy&Lisa, and Mayte. Dont diss Mayte cause she is obviously smarter than people give the girl credit for and I think she could do wonders with the estate and PP museum and the vault.

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who feels this way about Mayte. God Bless her.

twinkieG said: Re: why Manuela divorced Prince. Well. I believe that Mani and Eric first met while they were both married to other people. Eric and Halle Berry divorced in Jan 2005, but I believe they had been separated since 2003. Manuela filed for divorce from Prince in May 2006. It was confirmed that Mani and Eric were dating in 2007. In an interview in 2008 Eric said he met Mani at a charity event "about 2 years ago", which would be some time during 2006. In that interview he claims they became close friends very quickly, and then later started dating. However another source claims Eric and Mani actually met in 2004. Either way it seems likely to me that Eric and Manuela met and became friends before she decided to file for divorce from Prince. By all accounts Prince and Mani's marriage was having problems as early as 2003. It's not that uncommon for people to need a little 'motivation' to leave a marriage. Eric may have been the motivation. I don't have a shred of proof but I think it's plausible. That's all I'm saying.

but Eric Benet is a known sex-addict....that says what?

I never bought that sex addict claim. I believe that was some shit Halle's people put out there to keep her looking like the poor, innocent, sweet woman-done-wrong.

I do believe Mani and Eric probably bonded over that fact that they were both married to famous but sometimes difficult people.

I totally agree. It surprises me that some people have so much dislike of her...jealousy?

She has held herself with such a great deal of pride & I for one am so grateful she shares what she does & also that she keeps much to herself.

She is probably the only ex that I would actually want to hang out with - and not b/c she's his ex, just because she has no airs/pretenses & seems like she is really just doing her best.

To me, it is totally obvious - 20+ years ago & now - why prince loved her. She is the only one I have ever seen him use as a touchstone & the way he looked at her? WOW. So obvious he was head over heels. And why not? She was amaing then & imho amazing now.

Not saying he didn't love others before or after, but she was a HUGE part of his life.

And I think we do a disservice to his memory by dissing ANY of his exes.

Just me.

There's the vanity camp and the mayte camp. The vanity camp think every song he wrote after 1981 was about her and the mayte camp think everything he wrote after 1991 was about her.

I don't care about either camp because all I know is prince made music for his fans to listen to and right now that's all that matters.
Baby, you're a star.

Maybe, just maybe, some tracks Prince wrote from Mayte's or Vanity's view. That would be a twist. Like the track, I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore. (May not be the best example), but I hope you get the idea.

I put her down how? I stated FACTS. He left her. However you feel about that is your issue. At the end of the day, he made his feelings clear about how he chose to deal with her after the demise of their relationship. Take out of that whatever you wish. And making this about "every woman" is some sort of deflection. Listen, we're not discussing the value of these women as individuals. We're discussing their place in the heart of the deceased. And that is something only he would truly know but his public actions say something else.

Just like his public action to stay alone and not get back with any of his exes, be it Denise or Mayte, even though he had a whole decade to do so? Listen, I'm not going to waste my energy anymore on arguing about something that it's not my or anyone's business but the people affiliated. I now see that you weren't talking about the value of each woman and I apologize if I misunderstood it that way in the first place. Peace and love to you.

I totally agree. I was just listening to this track/ reading along with the lyrics and I had this same thought. Similarly, when listening to Way Back Home, I can see that coming from the point of view of his son. Kind of like he and his son are one in the same being. I think he toyed with point of view in lyrics more than we realize.

I agree with y'all . I have been watching tons of Youtubes and remembering a lot , and one thing that strikes me is that I never saw him look at another woman like he did Mayte , he seemed so much happier than I had ever seen him when things were good with them.He had a glow about him , his eyes sparkled. When they were on shows being interviewed, even when he was facing and speaking to the host he was always touching Mayte and if he moved his hands he was always reaching back to touch her , make sure she was by his side. She was his touchstone, when they would be walking off he always waited and took her by the hand .He was very tender and loving with her , no wonder she has had a hard time getting over him. As for Mayte , she looked at him with such adoration it was palpable . I think they were clearly very much in love . I almost feel that if Manuela had not been waiting in the wings they may have patched it up, but then there's the pesky little problem of Larry Graham and Mayte wasn't having it , and good for her for standing up for her own beliefs . I was once in a relationship with a man I thought was my Prince Charming. When a totally devastating event occurred in y personal life he was a total Dick about a lot of things at the beginning and said some very hurtful things to me that he later was sorry for and although I forgave him the damage had been done, Quite sure the talk of pregnant women using hair dye and nail polish felt like a dagger in her heart like the things my ex said during my life crisis. Perhaps that is one of the things she forgave him for, well, that and Manuella . I don't know what all went down , but I like some others here feel that if he had just been able to work it out with her he may be with us today . I have always thought that Prince just never seemed the same after the baby and the split with Mayte . That said, I'm not saying that he didn't have a love for Vanity, but I do feel he absolutely adored Mayte and she him.. That's just my two cents and what the heck do I really know about any of it , I just find it tragic.

I too am a Mayte and Susan Moonsie admirer and your post reflect my feelings to a tee! But after reading a few things here on the Org and pondering and analyzing some things, there are things I truly don't understand:

1) He told Oprah that when he first saw Mayte, he "knew" she was his wife. Prince had known her since she was 16 and had taken her virginity. Why the heck wait until she is 22 to marry her. She was legal at 18. Was she pregnant when he married her. Is that why he married her?

2) If he truly loved her, why divorce her just because she could not give him a healthy child, and then marry another who gave you no children either. Why not just stay with Mayte and adopt?

i read that he thought god was punishing him for his sins by having a deformed baby. It's strange because people were saying foreboding things about him a long time ago. Brown Mark said something to the effect that he had to know that he would have to pay for the way he treated people someday and that he must have accepted that.

Wow...interesting. I never read/heard that, but that birth defect is caused by genetics and is not some punishment from the Almighty. All he and Mayte had to do was freaking get "tested" (yes there is a test for it) to see who had the defective gene (I think it was Prince, being he never impregnated anyone, including Manuella).

Simple.. he was busy having a good time with all the others he was sleeping with at the time also take a good look at her mother. She looks conniving to a tee. She could have even encouraged mayte to get pregnant to stake her claim to Prince.. and it seems like she was pregnant before they got married because the baby was full term ... so it was a shotgun wedding it seems and to me his heart never seemed totally in it... like he wanted to do the right thing but had zero plans to marry her otherwise.. and if Nona Gaye is to be believed then he was getting ready to marry her and then oops mayte comes up pregnant so now he gotta marry her. Then not only that he annulled their marriage ..then talked about contracts but went on to actually marry Manuela so it's almost like he resented the situation with mayte. Who knows really...but I've never heard mani say anything about being forbidden to call him or any of that.. and he kept in touch with her after she divorced him.. pretty weird to me...

1) She was already super young when they did marry. 22 is the youngest he could marry he without making it look like he's checking a clock, because she would have been fully adult legally at 21 (including the right to drink.) In Minnesota, the age of consent is 16. People can get married of their own volition at 18; if he wanted to get the court and her parents involved he could have married her at 16 or 17.

He did care about looking creepy to the general public. What was the "Morning Papers" about? Also, early 20s is a great time physically to have kids. Any earlier and you see risks associated with teen pregnancies.

2) Who knows? Maybe he was traumatized by the kids dying, and maybe he only wanted to be a father to biological children within marriage.

3) What about the fact that she (his wife) was not allowed to call him, ever. He told her don't ever call him for any reason, and to let him contact her. Can't imagine if they had a child together and there was a life threatening situation (child got sick, got hit by a car ect.) What would/could Mayte do. I guess just wait for him to check up on 'em I guess eek

Yeah, a whole lotta things just don't add up and I'll probably end up making a post on it, but it's just not looking good for any of them as far as one particular one having Prince's heart, as some of us would like to believe. Sad to say not even my favorites: Mayte and Susan Moonsie.

++I don't believe MG has info that would cruch Prince/the legacy. That's why he married her to begin with. He was in total control and she was never a threat. She wasn't allowed to use the salon,or call him FFS! What could she possibly know if she weren't allowed even that much. Tour dirt? How lame. And remember she was on HWExes crying because she got nothing- no alimony nothing but "Bye girl!". She would have cashed in the chips if she had any, imo.

You know....normally, I wouldn't have thought too much about a comment like that. But from other posts I've seen here, it appears that Meltedman does know Mayte personally and is around her....maybe works for/with her or something of that nature? He commented not long ago in a thread re Mayte getting a Prince tattoo and did speak as though he knows what is happening with her. The mention of his name along with the poster's comment "According to Meltedman, Mayte has had the power for years to ruin Prince's life and get rich in the process but she is not going to do it" made me very curious as to what was meant by that. It's a provocative remark and I reacted.

I do hope that irresistiblebitch666 responds or perhaps Meltedman does and clarifies the meaning.

This reminds me of what Vanity said before she died in her last interview, i believe it was with JET..the woman had major medical bills and she said ''i have been offered millions to write about Prince, but i won't do it!''

.

If anyone needed money and could get a book (about them and all the sh!t she knew that was going down in 'the purple camp' back in the day) to sell a lot of copies and make the money she desperately needed she could have...but she refused to do that to him because after all was said and done she still loved him and respected him until she died.

I wonder about that too, why he didn't marry Vanity. There was nothing in this world that was stopping him. He "loved" her (so says some of the people here) and she him. If his love for her was so true and genuine, why didn't he put a ring on it? After she left him, there should have been a hole in his heart that couldn't be fullfilled by any other woman and a longing for her so intense that he could not live without her in his life. At that moment he should have proposed to her expressing his undying love for her and her only and forsaked any and all other women. Then I and others would have no choice, whether we liked her or not, but to tip our hats to her and say, "Ms. Matthews, "You are truly the one, the one who Prince married and remained faithful to until the day he (or she) died. But that did not happen. This woman who was so "beautiful" had to ask a man (Anthony Smith) to marry her (mind you she had only know him for 2 weeks) Why!!?? This woman, who was so "beautiful" could not get any man to commit to her and love and respect only her up until the day she died. This woman who was so "beautiful" destroyed and cut her own life short and didn't even appreciate the gift of beauty that the creator God had given her. Not trying to be mean here people, but just trying to get you guys to "think"! If we could only get out of our "feelings" and who our favorite one(s) is/are we will see things as they are and not what we want them to be.

Not trying to be mean here people, but just trying to get you guys to "think"! If we could only get out of our "feelings" and who our favorite one(s) is/are we will see things as they are and not what we want them to be.

We don't know what happened with those two. They may have loved each other deeply but they broke up and it was a very intense relationship.

I think Prince has had deep relationships with numerous women but people like Vanity, Shelia, Susannah, Mayte and Mani stand out. Maybe he loved all 5 of these women when he was with them BUT for various reasons, it just didn't work out.

He di rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes d care about looking creepy to the general public.

I love the rolleyes you inserted in the quote.

All of what I mentioned and all of what you mentioned point to this extreme need for control. I'm not sure that love and extreme control could be separated in Prince.

The "don't call me, I'll call you" feels like a reproduction of his childhood relationship with his dad. He avoided being with his week-old son and Mayte when his son was taken off the ventilator.
