It won't ever be new the projects, interviews or perfomances we all waited for with near impatience.

However we will always have a wealth of memories, and this community.

It will never be the same and that's OK.

As you get older you have to accept NOTHING stays the same.

One day we will all smile again when we speak of His Royal Badness, his genius, his cheekiness, his life.

IT AIN'T OVER! - Someone use to say that at his concerts.

No More Haters on the Internet.

ELVIS PRESLEY was another surprising (in his early 40's) and tragic loss, way too young and in such a sad way, but no its not over..Princes legacy lives on.

If only Prince had a Priscilla in his life to run Paisley Park and make it into something amazing and glorious for his fans. Elvis wanted everything for his child so her mother took charge and man did she make something outta so little. For their daughter Lisa Marie to someday when she got old enough to inherit..i heard he wanted PP to be a museum someday..he was a fan of Elvis and his Graceland Mansion.

I always found it interesting...in most basic stores & CD racks....PR.....Presley & Prince next to each other.....Prince covered some Elvis songs and of course the " Dead Like Elvis" on Face Down will always be there.....Dead Like Elvis.....WoW.....these really are the only 2 guys with strong catalogs....here in Philly every Sunday= 2 Hours of Elvis on Radio....been going for years....very easily the same can be done for Prince.....will it? No Clue......I always found it funny all the Michael Jackson hype upon his death....very apparent that he left nothing like Prince & Presley.....2 hours straight of Michael would run its course....can't do it....Prince & Presley both= many songs that are not hits but good to better non hit songs compared to hits.....Chaos & Disorder Album gems are on there....I felt I was the only one with that opinion until I met Mr. Hayes in Tampa Bay and we both agreed that is a good album and that is Rock n Roll....instead of the bankers & family being in control of the Prince Vault Music....Mr. Hayes should be the Boss of that- he knows what is good compared to the bankers plus he was there with Prince more than a little bit.

I know Jimi Hendrix (27 i think) was reeeeeeeeally young...in your 30's, 40' and 50's you just don't think EVER that your time is up, its shocking to me when the artists with so much talent go that young.

.

Many of course are a great loss, but in a different way.......because they lived a much longer life, they got to age, create families, etc.

.

Somone like Jimi Henrix didn't have enough time sad

I'm not ready for him to become a poster on a million students' walls, like Kurt Cobain or Che Guevara. Just an image - an icon.

That's what will happen in the future. It's weird.

i'm new on here (but have lurked for some time!). I hate to see 1958 - 2016. It will never be over. He is part of our personal history. Let's hope that it becomes a new beginning with more people recognising his genius. Here in the UK there has been very litte on the telly to celebrate his life. I find that strange given the amount of respect he commands for his talent. I can't beieve he's gone & prefer to pretend that nothing has happened.

Well yes. Being a fan of Prince will be different from now on.

I experienced it with my other favorite artist MJ when he passed. He's been dead almost 7 years now and it still hurts but eventually I was able to get back to enjoying MJ's music again. A lot of the time, I forget he's dead even to be honest because he still seems so alive when I listen to his music and watch videos of him. When I'm reminded he has passed though I do get sad again.

There's just no way around it. It sucks when your favorite passes.

Now I'm experiencing this with Prince. It will always hurt that you won't be able to look forward to new music, concerts and just Prince being here in general. All you can do is just honor Prince and his legacy. The man lived and breathed music.

Prince will always live on through his music. He put everything he had into it and I believe he would want us to continue listening and analyzing his art. It doesn't end for me. It's devastating that he's no longer here but it doesn't have to end. It'll just be different being a fan now.

Eventually, I believe we will all get to a place where we can enjoy listening to his music again. I know that's what he would want.

Lucky for us, Prince has such a vast catalog of music and concerts. He had so much variety. There will always be a lot to enjoy and things to look forward to as well.

I view it like this:

Prince died for his art. Full stop. He could have retired. He could have said, "guys, I'm tired. I'm in pain. Remember the good times, 'cause I'm gonna take a bow and call it a day".

But no, he kept on sluggin' away. Who throws a dance party less than 48 hours after a major medical emergency? Everyone around him was probably telling him to stop, to slow down. God knows we were.

But the man was incapable of stopping, of going silent. People talk about 'leaving everything on the stage'. Prince most absolutely left everything on the stage... and it cost him his life.

And for that reason, I am going to enjoy the fuck out of every note. Every lyric. Every dance step. I think he'd want me to. I think he'd want you to, too.

And there it is! You said it all.

Well, this site does have a fair number of people who devote an inordinate amount of energy and time to something of limited value, and that they have very little control over. Since the late 80's I've met people that neglected their own matters to spend most of their money for purchasing and collecting any scrap with Prince's name on it. Perhaps a different form of addiction? With his passing, I guess it's not surprising that energy directed elsewhere is looking ugly. Kind of like toddlers that have had their bottle torn from their hands. There's a clear line between grieving and coming unhinged.

So Prince was of no value, his fans are toddlers n noway will ppl move on n theyd rather buy music than what they really need because they have an obsessed addiction n not having it become unhinged ..

ok cool

Quite the opposite. I think with all the new Prince fans ("What? He did more than just Purple Rain??") and the possibility that the vault will be opened, we're in for a new phase of being Prince fans.

Of course it won't be the same, but as long as we listen to his music, and there's the possibility that new music's coming out, (to quote an old chant) "it ain't over."

I think the same

Neither am I, but we're in a privileged position. At least we were alive at the same time and got to experience it all first hand. Years from now people will wish they had been able to see him live or buy an album on the day it was released. We have our cherished memories of him and future generations will have the music of course but It won't be the same as everything we lived through. This thought is comforting me and I'm grateful for it. We lived it.

We can miss him being around because he was, but they won't be able to.

Not over for me. Playing his music and reading a biography I hadn't read before. I noticed I listen to more concerts now, the live experience makes me feel he's still around, boots are a major help right now. So are associated artists. Been listening to Vanity 6 etc a lot. Also taking some time out to dig deeper into the discographies of the artists who influenced him. Lighthearted p funk has been easing my soul. Yesterday I familiarized myself with Joni Mitchell (had only heard 'Blue' before). I keep him around anyway I can tbh, and I don't see that changing anytime soon, regardless of the fact whether vault material will be released.

To this day you still see things about Elvis Presley & Marilyn Monroe....Michael Jackson has not been gone near as long and you don't see as much on him as those 2 - sure you will hear a song here or there but he just really does not have the catalog like Elvis....Now there is Prince and he certainly has the catalog & videos....I would like to see things played daily- show the public what he had besides the overplayed hit songs & videos....much more is there....would the public be interested ? Probably not at 1st....plenty of lousy tv stations & shows on TV...plenty of room to show videos, live shows....he did plenty....mainstream media never focuses on that.

True, it will all take on a different life.

Prince himself said that he did not like to think of being dead, but rather of himself when he could no longer speak in real time.

...so, there you go!!! wink

He will always have a voice through his music and performances.

As for new music, even if the vault doesn't get released or when those releases stop, I believe that it is highly likely that we will have a new musical genius or two to take interest and inspiration from. Won't be the same of course, but that's the point.

Someone else will show up. there are/have been some excellent contemporary musicians around. One as amazing as Prince (and Bowie and MIchael Jackson) will come along.
