I gather the TIME commemorative edition is probably the best of the lot?? Considering how quickly it came out, was it rushed or a quality job?

On June 3, rap asked:

So Time, Newsweek and Condé Nast are easily the best of the lot?

Post #314 on page 11. Sharing this with you, because folks responded.

Found this today in the US. $18.00! Man, these magazines know how to get the fans! I also saw another UK-to-US magazine a few weeks ago (can't remember the name), similar to this, and was a Prince tribute. They only had one at B&N, and I was broke that week. Ah well! Also, Uncut is out with Prince on the cover. And this free CD that at first makes you think it's Prince music, but it's not. That magazine was $11, and only 15 pages of Prince related items, so I passed.

I've been able to get all the US magazines and tributes, except for The New Yorker and the Newsweek tribute. I'm kinda picky about the condition of my mags, and I found a copy in WV when I was home visiting for the weekend, but passed, thinking I could find a better copy back in NC when I returned. And I've never seen it again. (I'm still kicking myself!) I suppose those two were some of the earliest releases, so maybe they got snatched up more quickly. I can still find the Essence, People, etc. today in B&N! You'd think Newsweek would have kept their tribute magazine out longer than they apparently did.

This and Time are the best tributes I've come across in the UK.

I've ordered the Rolling Stone one but not received yet. How do you rate it? I haven't seen much said about it

Other than photos I've seen earlier in this thread, I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else. I take that back. There are currently two listings for it on ebay. I like that they got a tribute CD and SOTT on DVD.

With that said, here is the May 2016 Rolling Stone from India.

Agreed. As cool as that cover was its just not inspiring and I would expect more from RS

I kind of thought that too but I believe it's a reissue of his first (or one of the first) RS covers he did...

Actually, I believe that was inside the 1983 "Prince's Hot Rock" issue -- not on the cover. (The one with Vanity and Prince on the cover.) Or maybe a year-end best-of issue. All of those shots were by the legendary photographer/artist Richard Avedon. Avedon also did the amazing photos for Prince/Versace around 1995 here in Esquire Magazine. By far and away the most talented photographer Prince ever worked with.

Not sure if anyone out there is interested and missed out on some of these but the drug store in my area has the Time commemorative edition for Prince, and I believe the Rolling Stone (full tribute mag). Possibly still have stock of Nesweek, People and the orange cover one (sorry do not know who it's by as seems like a collaboration).

If anyone is looking for these, And would be interested in trading new copy for new copy of something still avaible in your area (full mag for full mag) perhaps something you have doubles off, let me know. Would be interested in UK mags, or some of the US ones. I will be heading there this weekend and can confirm which ones are around here, but did see some today.

Cheers!

I looked at the New Yorker issue with Purple Rain on the cover. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't see any content about Prince, just the cover.

Looks like the August issue of Guitar World is paying tribute to Prince. I'm not expecting much but at least they put him on the cover.

Slam Magazine (German language) does tribute magazines. Their Prince tribute includes a poster of 3rdeyegirl.

Google translate: In memoriam PRINCE : The 15th edition of the series ROCK CLASSICS is dedicated to the much too early deceased eccentric exceptional artist from Minneapolis. The special issue brings an obituary for a life and on stage, illustrated by many exclusive and partly never shown images. For nearly 40 years coined PRINCE the music world by his incomparable musical genius that gave him the ability, but to put all genre boundaries new standards as a multi-instrumentalist. Hits like "Purple Rain" or "Kiss" made PRINCE one of the most commercially successful musicians of all time. From 24.05.2016 for from 8,90 € (D) at the kiosk or for 11 € incl.

Rolling Stone Germany will do a tribute in their June issue, to be released on May 25th. It comes with the Sign o' the times DVD and a CD of artists covering Prince (Sufjan Stevens, Of Montreal, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings):

[img:$uid]http://i67.tiny.../img:$uid]

For those that don't live in the area and would like to order directly from Rolling Stone Germany, you can do so HERE. If you don't speak German, I recommend using Google Chrome so that you can right click on the page and "translate to English."

WARNING: I don't know what region code the free SOTT DVD is in. It may be open to all players, or it may only play in certain areas of the world. (Maybe someone has it and can tell us -- or knows what the information in the photo means.) Not that it matters. Most of us have SOTT in one format or another...

Lastly, this doesn't look like a commemorative (Prince ONLY -- no adverts, no other articles) issue. I cancelled my order for this reason. In the description (after Google translation) it says it's only 16 pages of Prince stuff -- so likely the same as the U.S. non-commemorative Rolling Stone.

Yesterday I went to our local giant book retailer - Chapters, similar to Barnes & Nobles in the U.S. I was surprised to walk out with not one but FOUR new magazine that I didn't already have - I think we just got them later than other places! Three of which I was already considering buying online so double bonus!!

Essence - a tribute to his Royal Badness

Ebony

Prince - A Revolutionary Icon

CLassic Pop - Purple Reign.

Bringing the total to 12!

I just need the Classic Pop (the full tribute one - will check back at Chapters in the next week and if not use the link provided here) and the Billboard one (will costs a pretty penny but definitely a must have!).
