Stax Museum in Memphis is another good example of this, done right (although Graceland gets all the attention. wink)

Let's make it a disco, a school, a restaurant. Maybe a small museum is OK, but my guess is that Skipper must be tired of his belly button by this time (not to mention it's just dust specks by now. Sowe're done with the ego thang).

With a population of 25,000 it's not going to be easy.
But the Twin Cities are only half an hour away, it seems feasible.

Anyone knows the average tuition annual fee in a high profile music art school? Say, Berkeley?

A Museum could be great. I'm sure the warehouse has all the old props. All the cloud guitars. The heart drum thing. The neon lights from Sign O The...

Even that stick guitar he played in 79.

Wonder if they have the boombox he used when he was 16?

Imagine how weird going into his office would be?

Does anyone know where to get the black Prince 1958-2016 shirt that the guy in the middle is wearing?

I understand your frustration. I, like you, would like to know what the building was used for, if it was used. I had heard in the past it was suppose to be a restaurant or Kingdom Hall (?). Rumors of course. But it would be nice if someone could provide relevant and useful information aside from the alias name of the building.

The Inside Story on Designing Prince's Paisley Park

April 2016

In 1985, 23-year-old architect Bret Thoeny was asked to build something he had never constructed before: an artist's compound.

"Back then, this wasn't done. Artist's weren't building their own compounds, only large companies or record labels were," Thoeny said in an interview with Billboard Thursday night (April 22). "But Prince, Prince had this vision to have everything under one roof. And this was decades before it was common for any individual to do that."

Source please, this isn't P & R wink

Because I've read MULTIPLE sources stating the lack of a will could be a major roadblock to it becoming a museum.

http://www.usatoday.com/s.../83651588/

"The biggest obstacle is the fact that Prince died without a will," says accountant Bob Charron, a CPA and partner at Friedman LLP, a New York-based tax and accounting firm. "When people declare in a will that they are leaving a substantial asset to charity, it saves (their heirs) up to 50% in estate taxes."

With clear instructions, none of Prince's heirs (believed to be one sister and five half-siblings) could have blocked his plans by, say, insisting on the sale of Paisley Park so they could claim their piece of it.

But no will has turned up, so Prince's estate is going to go through probate. A judge and executor will be responsible for determining his assets and their value and distributing those assets equitably, after subtracting legal fees, debts and taxes.

"Even if they create a non-profit charity (such as a museum), it won’t help the heirs in this tax bill they're facing," says Jeffrey Eisen, a trusts-and-estates lawyer at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP in Los Angeles. "You only get deductions if you have a will or a trust."

I hate to say it, but seeing how there was no will and his heirs are fighting over his estate, I fear that Prince's assets will be poorly handled and Paisley Park will be put up for sale in a few years. I hope that's not the case, but I have a bad feeling that's exactly what will happen.

An excellent idea.
Add sound engineering and dance classes.

i totally agree! paisley performing arts. who wouldn't want to enroll? especially if all of prince's old colleagues were the teachers. heck, i'll sign up!

and the thing is, itthe equipment is all already in place, just the musician/teachers have to be recruited and signed up.

someone needs to get a business model worked up, see how to meet statutory requirements.

That would be the best thing to do. Memorabilia are supposed to be just a scenario and not the main attraction.

We can only hope it will get sold to someone with a conscious who will turn it into a reasonably-priced tourist attraction such as Graceland. I say that because I want it to be more than just a museum with memorabilia, I want there to be concerts with associated musicians and Prince movies playing throughout the day in the theater. A few years ago I saw the U2 3D movie at the Rock Hall of Fame, it was fantastic.

And speaking of the Rock Hall, I do hope some Prince memorabilia FINALLY makes its way to the Hall. It's an absolute travesty that there wasn't even one piece of Prince memorabilia when I went there.

I just read an article saying that even with the support that the idea has received, it's doubtful, that this would ever come to fruition. The residents in Chanhassen would have to agree, and it's higly unlikely. The road (5) that leads to Paisley gets backed up as it as, and parking for Paisley events was always awful. The daycare across the street had cars towed many times. Paisley is just a couple blocks from private residential areas. I just don't see it happening. I'd like to see it as a music school/recording studio and then move the memorabila elsewhere, probably in Minneapolis. I wish I would have taken the $50 tour at the PP events!

Yeah, at the recent parties, you could line up and a tour guide would take you to the normally "off-limits areas" like the recording studio, etc. Usually Hannah and Josh would show up, and if you went on the really special night Prince even showed and gave people cookies. I never thought it would be worth the $50 since I had already paid a similar amount to walk in. Also, I thought there would always be future opportunities, since they had been doing them at every event recently.

call it, paisley park promises or something and offer scholarships for gifted students and help other people rise up in the world and have self-confidence just like prince did

I don't know... I would think that the State of Minnesota could make some things happen. There is plenty of room to expand the parking lot of they wanted so it wouldn't be a big deal. Maybe even buy the daycare and move it somewhere else in the area. It's not like it's densely populated. Minnesota loves the Purple Yoda and I would think it would be a huge tourist attraction. People have stated it's difficult to get to/ too far from MPLS- there could always be a Purple Shuttle to take people to and from the grounds to eliminate parking. It could be set up as a non-profit, charge a few with some of it going to upkeep and maintenance and the rest going to MPLS schools or something.

They could definitely work something out. They loved him there and I think they'd rather see it be celebrated than turned into a WalMart. Talk about traffic nightmare.

Maybe a rich celebrity like Lenny Kravitz or someone else who loved Prince could by it to preserve his legacy. Maybe a few people could get together. Someone call Opeah and Ellen... Hell maybe even George Lucas! Just please not Kanye or Jay-Z or some such garbage.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

I don't know how I feel about Paisley Park right now, it just looks so huge, empty, and sad. The only thing I see it as now, is the place where Prince died, and honestly, who could go in there and not be reminded of that, especially if they see the elevator.......ugh, I just wouldn't want to see that.

Does this not sound odd to people. Prince hasn't be deceased for 30 days and people already making plans on how PP should be a musuem (within hours and days of death), and an event is taking place there on May 14th and Prince will not be in attendance. Wtf. Still mourning and in shock here. Is anyone else?
