That performance was AMAZING!!! Prince was truly gifted and special. Anytime someone can jump on stage, on the spot and put on a GREAT performance is definitly a natural showman and performer! He will be greatly missed!

I think instead of it being a SNL special maybe they should have made it an NBC Special. First half play all the SNL performances then the second half all the Today performances.

Personally... I feel that it was Saturday night, and on NBC, Saturday nights belong to SNL. Not to SNL, AND The today show, AND the tonight show. Both of those shows each have their time slot that they have OWNED for decades. Let them do them and let SNL do SNL. Also...those shows have ALL week...SNL has ONLY Saturday.

Y'all just being greedy...and I understand that. But look at it this way. If the Today show does their montage, and then the tonight show does their montage we have three separate big montages versus one big montage...yeah?

Great special. "Let's Go Crazy" was fantastic and the quality was great..It was so cool to see everyone around him onstage just basking in his coolness. He looked like he was having a blast too....I have to admit it was sad watching his "Clouds/Plectrum" perfomance with 3EG.

I personally don't recall Fred posting here on the Org (not saying he didn't, I just don't remember it), but he definitely posted more than a couple times in the NPG Music Club forums.

It's hard for me to watch his performances, videos or listen to his music right now but I had to watch the "SNL" special and I'm glad I did. It was so well done. Just Prince in all his bad assness. So damn talented and cool.

Thanks to SNL for doing this.

They could still have an NBC special which does not air on a Saturday. And yes we are greedy for all the SNL/Today/Tonight show peformances.

But then again it seems like SNL has taken over 6 nights a week with Jimmy Falon on the Tonight show and the horrible Seth Myers late show.

Those skits were atrocious! I had never seen those since i stopped watching snl after molly shannon's exit. Why didnt they show all musical performances? All singers perform two numbers but they decided to only air one from his 1981 appearance and opted for those horrible Prince Show skits instead? mad

I think Prince only had one performance in 81. Todd Rundgren was the other artist on the show.

We need to thank Jimmy Fallon for getting that special put together and on network television. I appreciated it. I remember when Prince appeared on SNL and performaned "Electric Chair," I almost jumped through the television, then in 1989. I jumped out of my bed last night when Jimmy said in 1989 and the Batman symbol, I knew what was coming. And I did say out loud, "Damn! That's one Sexy MF! (Sorry, can't do the past tense.).

Remember, the show is called Saturday Night Live. It's all about the comedians, the musical acts are secondary. I understand Fred doing "The Prince Show" parody, because its based off the rumors in the 80s and 90s: Don' speak to Prince; Don't look him in the eye; Prince will have you do some crazy things. I can chuckle at along with this parody since I experienced speaking to Prince and he looked at me like I did not existence. It was the same night, I watched Prince whisper in his then bodyguard's ear (Aaron) and Aaron walked over to this girl in the atrium at Paisley said something to her and she followed him to stand next to Prince. By the way, the night this experience went down was April 22, 1995. It's more to this story.

Thanks for posting! I hadn't seen all these performances, and the closing credits...with Prince being a little close to Alec Baldwin and making a mad dash from the stage - might be the first time I've smiled in the past few days. smile

I was able to watch this great moment by SNL to honor our beloved Prince this morning. That was very special and well put together by SNL. I loved the moment, to honor SNL's 40th, where Jimmy was telling the story about how Prince seemed to float up to the stage to perform as the crowd part. biggrin

Its online when your ready to watch it... I myself enjoyed the skits but,i get it its not everyones taste. These cast members use to be called not 4 prime time. They didn't make this stuff up about prince it was him. There is a video with oprah and she asked prince straight up do you consider yourself weird or strange? He said yes.At the end of one of his songs he did molly shannon SUPERSTAR at the end.Thats our prince thats what made him.
