Prince and his music have marked my life and my taste in music and performing. I really loved him like each and everyone of you here. Although I haven't been following him constantly throughout his career, for some reason during the last week I felt I had to fill in the gaps...I am glad I did, guess it was for a reason.

Prince, sometimes I was real mad at you but that was only because I loved you so much and I could never ever get enough of your art! Music will never be the same without you! RIP! rose

I am sad, devastated and have cried for the first time since I lost my father 4 years ago.

To think I am not going to listen to any new music or any new live shows from this great artist is making me sick and makes me want to cry again!

I'm not ready to accept it yet. All I can do is try to find meaning to make us smile.

The whole world (and especially people who lived through the 80's and experienced him firsthand) is now acknowledging and celebrating his genius due to his early death. As a result, in a paradoxical way, his legacy is likely to be further strengthened. His music will become easier to find and everyone is praising him. The next generation can be exposed to his music within a new global context that frames Prince as an absolute legend of all legends, rather than focusing on his views towards the music industry, for example.

And finally.

If you need hope.

I have 2 words for you:

The Vault.

Maybe we won't get much more from Prince, but there is a possibility he's already made plans for his death and there could be a plethora of new releases coming soon. Maybe he wrote us a fairwell song. Maybe an album about life. A Purple Rain remaster. Maybe he's got another 10 years worth of albums to steadily release from the vault and he's got it all mapped out... or at least Hitnrun Phase 3 + 4.

No, this is not the end of Prince's legacy.

This is the beginning of a new era of global appreciation that Prince has always thoroughly deserved.

So many things in my life would have been different, poorer, without Prince.

He inspired me to go to places, meet people, get up on stage.

As sad as I am today, I am so happy for the influence he had on me.

And I'm happy that in recent years, after a lot of sadness in his life, Prince seemed to be happy too. He said you could find him in his music, that he wasn't really a mystery. If that's true - and I think it is - he was at peace with himself, and you can't ask for much more than that.

--------------

Bedfordshire, some time around 1988: I say "Who's that?", pointing at the cover of Purple Rain. "Oh, don't bother with him," says my mum.

Brixton, 2004: I watch this live video of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", interested in the guitar players on the list and, oh Prince, I guess. Realisation sets in that maybe there's something to this guy.

Beijing, around 2006: In the minibus back from the Great Wall at Mutianyu, I help my friend's cousin set up her new MP3 player because she can't read the instructions. I test to see if I've got it right. "Purple Rain" is the only track on it. I ask if I can listen all the way to the end; she says OK.

Hong Kong, February 2009: "The Arms of Orion" is the first song at my wedding reception.

Hong Kong, March 2010: I'm on with my band at the Wanch in about 10 minutes. Stage fright. I go outside and walk up and down the road, listening to "Baby I'm A Star" on my earphones to get ready.

Melbourne, May 2012: Prince plays the Rod Laver Arena. I flew here via Shanghai just for the concert. I tag along with some Aussie fans I met before the gig to the after-party at the Hifi. Prince shows up but doesn't play, thanks to some hoon causing a scene. Oh well.

Hong Kong, 21 April 2016: I get out my guitar and play some songs from 1999 to my son before putting him to bed.

Hong Kong, 22 April 2016: Grim news when I wake up. There's a storm warning, and I walk to work through falling leaves. It starts to rain.

It's understandable that many media and people choose Sometimes it snows in April as the song to cover the news and show their respect. Most of the missed the fact that he recorded this song in 1985 at the 21st of April..

....

you're right

"The initial recording for this song was done at Sunset Sound [Studio 3] in Hollywood on 21 April 1985 (the day before Around the World in a Day was released). Clare & the Gang recorded their bits sometime later in 1985."

"It was written on the spot and recorded in a couple of hours" (Wendy).

I dusted off my 14 y/o account for the first time in years, sadly for an awful reason.

I've met my wife in line for a Prince gig, and his music brought me so much, relieve, joy, wonder, comfort and a whole bunch of other emotions.

Thank you, Prince, from the bottom of my heart. You've enriched my life so much.

Others have said it better than me..

I will miss his presence on this earth dearly..

Shocked

Gutted

So very very sad for his family and friends.. sad His music shaped the way I thought and felt in my early teens and into adulthood. He was more than just an artist, he is gone WAY too soon.

James Corden's Carpool Karaoke has become one of my favorite YouTube "things", largely because it's so obvious that the man absolutely loves music. After seeing this I like him even more.

Thankyou for the amazing music that will live on forever.

The memory that came to mind was a 2003 after party in Sydney. Prince reached past me, borrowed a tambourine off a girl then started dancing right in front of me to 'Get Up Offa That Thang'

Can see that memory so clearly.

Still can't believe he's gone.

Rest In Peace Prince - "life is just a party and parties weren't meant to last..."
