I am very much at a loss for words. I'm sad, angry, numb... but mostly just sad. Prince's music shaped more than 30 years of my life to one degree or another. His spirit will be missed, his music will live forever.

For me, Prince was like a family member.

I have exposed all of my family to him and he was a part of almost everyday life.

Friends I have not spoken to in 30 years have reached out to me because of this.

I met Prince in person, along with a bunch of other fans, back in 2004 on a Los Angeles sound stage. I was too nervous to make eye contact, but he had an unearthly aura about him. I knew immediately that I was in the presence of a strangely gifted individual.

I suppose we will never solve the riddle of Prince the man. Somehow I feel robbed of the chance to read the memoir that never was, but that's okay. He was an enigmatic figure who made the world of music brighter and decidedly funkier.

I never thought I would cry for Prince, but this breaks my heart.

Saw him live about 5 or 7 times live. I went to his house one day while I was in town working. The house was under construction and I JUST WENT IN. I saw some construction guys so I took some pics and left. I was hoping to see him but alas It was not to be. The last show at MSG I saw was truly great and the best of the last tour he did in NYC. I have not cried but man It's hard to see one of your childhood heros go so soon...Let the tributes begin!

I'm numb. I've been crying off and on all day. I'm so sad and just in utter disbelief.

I'm so incredibly lucky to have followed this genius for decades, and even just saw him 3 times in February/March in Oakland and San Francisco. And I'm blessed to have shared my passion for Pirnce with my kids, who first saw him when they were 5 and 9, and saw him many times. The crew was so sweet when the kids were young too, giving them picks and drum sticks, and we were up front thanks to the NPG Music cCub.

The world has truely lost a legend, a genius, an inspiration. RIP Prince

So devastated. One of those days when you will remember where you were.

One thing I can never cross off my bucket list is a concert at Paisley Park.

I listen to his music every week. It has had such a huge impact on my life since I was 13. No one can replace him.

Nightline(ABC)12:30AM NYT is doing a full hour on Prince tonight. Check your local listings.

It's ironic, yes.

What Prince meant to me . . .he was the soundtrack of my youth. I remember seeing him perform for the first time on Solid Gold (that right there dates me). I remember hearing the Purple Rain soundtrack for the first time on a boombox on the schoolbus. I remember borrowing copies of his albums from friends and secretly listening to them in my room on headphones so my parents wouldn't know. I remember buying my first Prince album openly and enduring the days of lectures I got from my parents about the evil music I has chosen. I remember (vividly) my first Prince concert during the Lovesexy tour. I remember pouring through the imports bins at Peaches for remixes on vinyl. I remember a friend and I accosting a Sam Goody manager and asking to open his boxes in the backroom to look for their release day shipments of the Batman soundtrack "in the can". I've lost count of the concerts since then but vividly remember the afterparty at the 9:30 Club with my best friend and an underage little sister. I remember his as being the ONLY concert for which I've slept overnight on a sidewalk to buy tickets. I remember the Joffrey Ballet at Wolftrap. I remember all the movies. I own crates of legal releases, bootlegs, videos, and remixes. I vividly remember wildly dancing at a Prince concert while well pregnant with my first child. I remember playing Starfish and Coffee to my kids in their cribs. I remember my nearly-grown kids performing Starfish and Coffee for me at my son's piano recital last year (and I totally cried).

I got a letter in the mail today from a relative I havent seen since I was a child and then someone called me to see if I was okay and I didn't know what they were talking about and she told me Prince was dead He died alone

Heartbroken.

The take a line from the song Chelsea Rodgers, I was sure that Prince would "live as long as a tree."

Besides the flu I think he was heart broken over Vanity's death May he rest in peace and I will truly miss him.

I'm still in shock and can't believe it. It doesn't seem possible. I just thank God I was alive to witness the ultimate greatness that was and is Prince. There will NEVER EVER be anyone that comes close in my book. His music was part of my everyday life for the past 35 years. Good times and bad there was always one constant thing. Prince music! Hearing his voice is like hearing a good friend or a family member.

This is really tough for all of us right now. I hope everyone here can put their differences aside and come together to honor and respect this man who has brought us so much joy for decades.
