Soundboard - Glam Slam Minneapolis May 29th(am) '94

As stated on the banner at the top of the forum: NO TROLL THREADS! NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine, so long as the bootleg is not being promoted e.g. pre-release; requests/offers to share or copy, and links to download or bootleg sites are not. Posting Prince and associated artist videos from sites such as YouTube is also not allowed. Posts of this nature will be deleted and repeat offenders will be first warned, and then banned. Troll threads, fake tracklists, and attention seeking rumor threads will be also be swiftly dealt with. These rules are strictly enforced! . luv4u

This amazing soundboard from Anonymous/FBG is doing the rounds now and it's FREE!

Don't bloody pay for unofficial recordings!!

is this the actual show or the rehearsal? I have the rehearsal on Pro shot video [stunning!] & the CD to go with it.

What are you talking about? You must be mistaken with another date/venue.

It's one of the 'A Night In Erotic City' afterhours shows that were held in the VIP Room (ErotiCity) at Glam Slam in early 1994. I have a few flyers for them somewhere...

Yep. After the main bar closed at 1AM, Erotic City would open up as an 18+ venue. Having just turned 18 that year, I used to drag all of my high school friends there in hopes of hearing new songs, and maybe running into Prince. He was there quite a bit, cutting through the crowd with a Tootsie Pop in his mouth, and bodyguards in tow.

It's so strange to hear some of these songs without their samples. Were they missing a keyboard player that night? Also, that stage in the Erotic City room was tiny! How in the hell did he get the full horn section up there?

Yes it's strange but cool to hear these a bit stripped down. I'm proper loving this in soundboard, my favourite era from when I was also 18 and starting to really get into P.
.
Must have been awesome to have been local at this time hearing all new songs in small venues like Glam Slam and Paisley

It was a very cool time to be a fan. It almost felt like you were following an up and comer, who had one hit to his name, and all of this unreleased music you could only hear at concerts, and on bootlegs. But, it was actually that dude who was already a legend, and decided to start over again from scratch.

All I dreamed about was having a clean copy of Days O' Wild back then. lol

The artwork states this is a "Members Only" release from January 2012...

What is up with that?!? Has this been circulating for 4 years already? Was it only for the "elite circle" that don't share with the rest of us? Is it a misprint? Headscratcher... confuse

I read it was shared back then in some "private" forum that does no longer exist...

Put pefectly. I remember going to see Me'shell Ndgecello here in SF & only a select few of us knew that before she went on they were going to play The Beautiful Experience unannounced. This was a strategy prince wanted to try. After seeing it I went all mad turning over any rock to find the material. It was probably my favorite time being a Prince fan. Soon after I got to see him at the LA GLam Slam perform all the material live, it felt like we were seeing an artist no one even knew about as crazy as that sounds. For me it gave him that edge back especially on the heels of D&P & The Symbol Album. I just remember feeling so lucky to follow someone who kept surprising me at every turn.

One of my favourite eras - and yes, it did feel like you were following some sort of new, upcoming artist. There was such a buzz and excitement to it all.

Hope I can track this soundboard down.

biggrin Exactly the same for me. A good quality Days Of Wild was like my holy grail back then. I must have worn out my VHS of The Beautiful Experience video just watching the DOW clip!

Same. I became a fan late 94/early 95 and a firend lent me The Beautiful Experience on video. It was so frustrating that some of the songs weren't released yet. I was in heaven when I got a bootleg with the short and long versions of Days Of Wild on it. This is my favourite era. Such an exciting time.

It was a strange era. Ther was some good things, and their was some bad things too. I remember being frustrated about not been able to hear this album called the Gold Experience, that Prince thought was as good as anything hed done. But things like the beautiful experience programme that I think was shown on channel 4 in the UK, was great. And a unexpected surprise at the time. The undertaker video also. And the tour of the uk and Europe with that set. The downer was some of the bad press he used to get. Most of the media didn't mention at that time of the despute with warners so most members of the public thought it was all princes doing. The name change and no hits etc. I remember never saying I was a fan of prince! It was my own little secret,

Also worth mentioning that Sex Machine is a Sly & The Family Stone cover. What a dirty little groove.

I'm thinking maybe they were on the floor.

If I remember correctly, the stage was along a wall and had black curtains on either side of the stage. For this night, the curtain was gone on the right side of the stage and they had a smaller stage set up for the horn players. I'm loving this recording. It's always nice to have a show that you were at.

Is the Erotic City roomm where the 'Get Wild' and 'Pheromone' videos were shot?

It WAS all Prince's doing.

But at least the music was brilliant. Alas, it was to be the last time.

I really enjoyed hearing 'New Power Soul'. Was always kinda surprised he never pulled this one out live in '95. Get Wild is cool with the horns too.

Just need the following Erotic City show with the live 11 minute version of 'Come' with the NPG Horns to leak...
