anyway, back to PHASE 3:

Free Urself
If Eye Could Get Ur Attention

Rough Enough

they all sound pretty much like they could go together on an album, i guess.

kinda hoping for a bit more grit in the funk though, on the other tracks.

That would be awesome! cool

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

so what? that bit of artwork has been up on twitter and tidal for ages,
just because a fan is now making a painting for themselves does not

mean a thing. besides, that is not Phase III artwork.

martin homent made those prince portraits for every phase of his long

carreer. from For You up to Gold up to Emancipation, through Rave to
Musicology and 3rdEyeGirl.

why people keep insisting that Phase III is Lovesexy era tracks since
that pic is up on tidal and twitter (along with the PR one) is beyond me.
it means nothing. it could have been any other pic by homent. he just
couldn't bloody well put all 30 something of them up there.

The phases idea is actually really cool, with phase 1 being from 2014-15, phase 2 mostly being from 2011-13, phase 3 could be 2007-10 (welcome 2 america album, stuff like We Live To Get Funky etc), or just go way back and have phases that focus on Lovesexy, Purple Rain etc...

And by the time we reach Phase 26 we'll get Dream Factory outtakes! headbang

Phase 52, 13 year old Prince singing Jackson 5 covers in Soul Explosion?

Phase 53...4 year old Skipper Nelson banging out beats on cardboard boxes with Tyka singing background vocals

Track list

1. Funk Machine
2. Little Red Tricycle
3. Sexy Nanny
4. Diapers & Pearls
5. Barney Talk To Russia
6. Play In The Sunshine (original unreleased version)
7. Starbursts & Cookies
8. Electric Hi-Chair
9. 1969
10. Alphabet Soup
11. The Most Beautiful Mom In The World
12. In This Bed Eye P
13. Baby, Im A Baby

Phase III should be coming out on 3/19 to align with the 3rd phase of the moon.

I would expect "Phase 3" to take longer because the process of manufacturing & getting "Phase 2" sold by unconventional means. I imagine Prince fronted the costs of Manufacturing "Phase 2" and is going to give it more time than he would have given Tidal or WB if they dealt with this series.

If a physical Phase 3 ever comes to pass, that is. Who knows anymore about anything Prince

Why do some people want an album full of tracks they already own? Just create a playlist.

Because a playlist wouldn't be the artist's own vision. I can indeed create a playlist of "orphan" songs but the sequencing would be totally arbitrary. I like the idea that an album is a cohesive ensemble of songs: regardless of the fact that they may or not have been composed with a specific project in mind, in the end I get a storytelling according to Prince's vision. It may or may not work but at least I get the artist's vision. I for example do not believe Planet Earth or AOA work as ensembles but at least it's P's choice to sequence those tracks together. On the other hand I believe Crystal Ball (98) is an incrediblly cohesive and well sequenced 30 tracks "story", despite being a compilation of tracks that were not originally conceived to be put together.

I know I'm a bit of a purist in that sense but I feel it's not my place to create or alter Prince (or any other artist) albums. Either I have them and I can appreciate them or criticize them as such or I don't.

And I know I may be old school but I almost always listen to full albums because I want to be taken through a journey by an artist. I have actually rediscovered some songs thanks to Phase One and Two that I probably wouldn't have paid much attention to originally (Fallinlove2nite or Groovy Potential for example), or that would have loved for 2 months then forgotten (Screwdriver for example). I'm glad those songs are now part of an ensemble.

Because of all of the above, I never skip tracks when listening to an album, and more than often this has allowed songs (again by Prince or others) to grow on me, and for me to realize certain songs were much better works than I would have thought on a first listen. A recent example is Kimbra's last album: at first I fell in love with one third of the tracks but thought the rest was forgettable. But after a dozen listens I realized the whole thing was totally brilliant. It doesn't work with every album I listen to but that's how I got to fall in love with all my darlings, including Prince's records.

This. An album is an artists vision, thats why there isnt much by Prince i dont like, i just see each album as where he was and what he was thinking when he put it together.

clapping clapping clapping

Before I ask myself whether I like any work of art, I ask myself "what was the artist trying to achieve and am I under the impression they suceeded". This usually makes me much less judgmental and allows me to evade the mere "like/dislike" first impression I may have, because the creative process is a complex thing and it usually involves more than just "hit or miss".

I was thinking about the scattershot way the physical albums are being produced (we may not even get any future phases as CDs) and wondered if would of been better if Prince had only put out the albums on streaming (maybe download as well). then once all the phases were complete, pooled all his resources and put out a killer multi-disk set.

At risk of stating what's likely been posted a hundred times, the artwork for Phase One, Two, Three and Four are at the top of the Prince3EG Twitter page: https://twitter.com/Prince3EG

Is that news to anybody?

Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

There is NO confirmation that those will be the covers of the next phases. The assumption is only based on the first two. Martin Homent hinted at a new artwork for 2016, probably the one for Phase Three. HE posted half of it on his instagram...
