I've had Phase One for a week now and well...I'm not going to say I don't like it yet. I need to give it few more listens. I've noticed a couple things that annoy me though, and they are big ones.

For one, Josh's sound doesn't fit (in my opinion) with Prince's sound. Josh isn't bad per se, I just don't wan't him playing like that on a Prince album.

Another annoyance is how low in the albums mix Prince's playing is. I can barely hear his bass on a lot of songs. I love that Prince is playing more of his own instruments again, but would like to hear them...not barely hear them.

In my opinion it just seems to be an unfinished, rushed or weird compilation album of sorts. I hope on further listens I end of enjoying the majority of it (I do like a couple songs).

I got Phase Two in the mail today and I'm sure I'll love that smile. Can't wait to hear it smile.

Purple Music is my drug and I'm jonesin!!!!!

Anybody who thinks Prince didn't have final say of every last facet of the sound and mix of Hit n' Run Phase One is naive imo.

He would be the most hands-on exec producer in the world. smile

Prince is far too controlling imo and would never release a 'just pop-in and do the vocals/ lyrics and a bit of guitar over someone else's tracks' album under his own name.

He probably took what Josh felt was his 'final mix' off him and tinkered with it on his own in the studio behind his back and that's the released version.

That's what I think too. P1 is so bad that Prince himself had to have ruined it. Josh is a professional, who can't make decisions THAT bad, imo.

Love it or hate it, Phase 1 is much less of a compiliation than Phase 2. Literally half of Phase 2 has been released before.

I agree with most of your points about Phase 1 though. If it had been credited Josh Welton featuring Prince, it might've gone over a lot better. As it stands now - even though most don't count it as a true "Prince" album - it's part of the Prince discography.

To me it's the essence of Prince. Remember when he used to surprise, and bewilder?

.

Well said.

You can ignore it, but he released it with his name on it.
Your dissatisfaction doesnt make it not a Prince album.

For me ... 1000 hugz is worth the price of admission .. It is a solid unembarassing rework of an absolute classic song .. Yes the rest of the album is mostly his worse output EVER .. But we should all be used to that by now

just thankful for the one newish song I can truly enjoy

agree with initial thread, HnR1 is rubbish, it's not even an album. It's a bunch of songs throw on a CD.

Funny coz prince moaned about people just making singles for itunes and not making albums anymore, then he releases that......

HnR2 more than makes up for it tho.. I've listened to it 100 times in the car already.

I'm having the same feelings for Phase 2. I love Phase 1 , but can't even force myself to enjoy Phase 2 a little bit. I'd buy it, but I'd never unwrap it.

Laydown

phase 1is not my fäv but in saying that hes trying something and no one really got into it for one reason or änother,no biggie, afterall he puts out remarkable music almost every album. best song for me is shut this down. theres no reason to shit on a guy when hes trying something most people his age wouldnt have the ambition to do.
