Moral Majority is an unreleased track recorded in 1982 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio,Chanhassen, MN, USA. The track was recorded for possible use on Vanity 6's album Vanity 6, but the song was not included on the release. Further work was done on the track on 1 and 2 January, 1984 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (during the same session as We Can Fuck (later renamed We Can Funk), which was also labeled Moral Majority on the working order, as the track's title was not considered suitable), creating a version by Apollonia 6.

The track is named after the Moral Majority political organization in the United States which had an agenda of evangelical Christian-oriented political lobbying. The group was founded in 1979 by evangelical fundamentalist Southern Baptist pastor, televangelist, and a conservative commentator Jerry Falwell. The song opposed the movement, which clearly stood against the sexuality displayed by the likes of Prince and Vanity 6.

Vanity 6 version

  • Vanity - lead vocals (assumed)
  • Jamie Shoop - vocals
  • Susan Moonsie - vocals
  • Roy Bennett - vocals
  • Prince - all instruments (assumed)

I wanna hear this!! smile This sounds like a very controversial track.

I always felt that "Wet Dream" was strong enough to be a single. The track is extremely catchy and addictive....but I think the song's title may have prevented radio stations from embracing it? smile

Saw the Bloomington concert -83 yesterday. That version of "Wet Dream" is smoking hot! Funky as hell. The released version, not so much in comparison.

another outtake I have heard about is called "Moral Majority" smile sounds intriguing!

It definately does, and could have a been a perfect step for Vanity 6 almost social political message

I'm not sure that would have gone over well. lol Love 'em, but better as the subversive artifice than verbally carrying a concrete social message.

Not 4 me, the ones I still regularly listen to are Wet Dream Drive Me Wild(extended) Make Up and If A Girl Answers.

There are some wonderful sounds on this album and some really playful lyrical directions. Fits perfectly in the story playlist of 1999 & What Time Is It?

Drive Me Wild

Ooh, look at me, I'm a Cadillac
I'm a brand new convertible child
I've never been driven baby, U're the first

Come on baby, drive me wild ... ooh

Ooh, look at me, I'm a telephone
Whatever U want, just dial
Come on honey, please, it's so easy
Do it baby, drive me wild

CHORUS:
Come on baby, do it, drive me wild
Do it baby, drive me wild
Come on baby, do it, drive me wild
Do it baby, drive me wild

Ooh, look at me, I'm a radio
Call me up, make a request
I'll do anything, just name it
When I'm bad, baby, I'm the best

CHORUS

Ooh

Ooh, look at me, I'm a baby doll
Just pick me up and I'll smile
I may be young but I'm a whole lotta fun
Come on, baby, drive me wild

CHORUS

Ooh, do it, drive me wild
Come on baby, drive me wild
Ooh, do it, drive me wild
Come on baby, drive me wild
Drive me wild, drive me wild

Drive Me Wild is the third track on Vanity 6's first and only album Vanity 6, and, six weeks after the album's release, it was included as the b-side of Nasty Girl, the album's first single. In Spring 1983, Drive Me Wild was released as the album's fourth and final single.

While specific recording dates are unknown, initial tracking took place in Summer 1981 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions that produced Make-Up, Wet Dream and I Need A Man).

The tracks were intended for an album titled The Hookers, which was abandoned in Fall 1981, and which later evolved into Vanity 6. Vocal overdubs by Vanity and Brenda Bennett were added in Spring, 1982, when the band had evolved into Vanity 6.

Prince worked on the extended version for a 12" release during the week of 7-14 January, 1983 (during the same sessions as the extended version of Little Red Corvette), five months after the album had been released, at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA.

in 1985,when the group disbanded,I felt bad for Susan and Brenda confused Apollonia went on to do 'Falcon Crest' and of course,Vanity was doing alot of projects but it seems like these two ladies were left behind. They worked so hard to make it all work but when it ended,it seemed like they had nowhere to go.Brenda has a great voice and should have been offered a solo deal on some label.

WET DREAM

My lips start shakin' when I see him walkin' down the street
Of all the boys in school, he's the only one I wanna meet
If he combs his hair, all my girlfriends start 2 scream
He's so clean, he's the number one star of my wet dream
I get so angry if I see him with another dame
I start 2 tremble and I don't even know his name
If he takes her 2 the soda shop, guess who's gonna buy the ice cream?
She gives him all her money 'cause he's the star of her wet dream

Can't help it, can't help it, can't help it
Ooh honey, honey, boy he's so fine
I can't help it, can't help it, can't help it
Ooh honey, honey, gotta, gotta make him mine

My body starts 2 quiver when I think of his next 2 mine
I know he could deliver the dam 2 the river anytime
He's so good lookin', he's the cutest dude I ever seen
He's my little lover, number one star of my wet dream

Can't help it, can't help it, can't help it
Ooh honey, honey, boy he's so fine
I can't help it, can't help it, can't help it
Ooh honey, honey, gotta, gotta make him mine

Oh yeah
Make my body scream
You're the star of my wet dream

Somebody, somebody, somebody help me sing
You're my little lover, make my body scream
You're my little lover, number one star of my wet dream
(Everybody sing 2gether)
You're my little lover, you make my body scream (Make my body scream)
You're my little lover, number one star of my wet dream {repeat phrase}
Yes you is
(Everybody sing 2gether)
Yeah, yeah
(U're my star)
Oh honey, honey, honey, honey, uh
My wet dream, my wet dream, my wet dream
I can't help it, can't help it, can't help it
(U're my little lover, number one star of my wet dream)
Yeah, ooh ooh ooh
I can't help it, no, I can't (Make my body scream, yes U)
Honey, honey, honey, honey, honey, honey, honey
You're my little lover, you make my body scream

Vanity 6 (Front Cover)

While specific recording dates are unknown, initial tracking took place in Summer 1981 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions that produced Make-Up, Drive Me Wild and I Need A Man). The tracks were intended for an album titled The Hookers, which was abandoned in Fall 1981, and which later evolved into Vanity 6. Vocal overdubs by Vanity and Brenda Bennett were added in Spring, 1982, when the band had evolved into Vanity 6.

A later track, planned for a projected second album by Vanity 6, was titled Wet Dream Cousin due to its similar musical feel to this track; the two are otherwise unrelated, however; see Wet Dream Cousin for details of that track.

-PrinceVault

My favorite song on the album. Still think it sounds fabulous to this day.
