Well fuck me sideways and call me Susan. What a palate cleanser! If there had been no HNR would I think this so amazing? Anyway. Doesn't matter...fucking amazing...this, Stare, Indifference (tho maybe that's a threeeyedgirl song?) - hope that lovely artwork sees the light of day (the watercolour). Hopefully Josh is locked under the stairs with his fucking owl.

Yep.

Much as I enjoy HitnRun, it's hard to believe he was sitting on material like this. Particularly as this song was mentioned as the title track of an album several months before HitnRun was even mentioned.

Yup!! Can't deny it, and if anyone does... They are just a hater. lol

This and Sticky Like Glue are so throback 80's james without Prince actually trying hard to sound like his 80's works.

Great little tune. Extremely catchy. Maybe too catchy. Makes me wonder if it will have any lastability though. Sounds like an early 80s/planet earth hybrid. Could've done without the weak gospeley ending for me though. Makes it sound dated but not in a good way.

Great song. I agree that it has a kind of Dream Factory vibe mixed with a 1982 new wave vibe. I also got reminded of Baltimore a little.

I'm a little at odds with this release.

On one hand, I love the rapid-release format he's doing.

On the other hand, we JUST got HITnRUN a few weeks ago. This is a bit soon and feels a bit like a cash-grab (even though it's streaming for now).

This is great. Clearly a nod to The Revolution sound. Could you imagine this with Wendy & Lisa?? It's soooo simple - and that's what I like about it. There's no pretention. It's just a feel-good uplifting song. He sounds free. It's not overthought, but there's clearly a vibe he's going for and attains. I like the fact the lyrics aren't too subject specific. This is better than 90% of the tracks on HITNRUN - It's probably on par with my two favourite songs from HITNRUN ("Hardrocklover" and "1000 Hugs", which are too dissimilar to evaluate further). Great stuff, Prince. This sounds so fresh after the "digital" sound of HITNRUN.

I'm sure he and the honchos at Tidal are aware that the free trial month that many of us signed up for to initially hear HITNRUN is soon to expire and they're trying to encourage as many of us as possible to start paying the monthly subscription, luring us with the carrot that you just never know what Prince will release next!. I have to say I'm in two minds at the moment. I was about to delete my account, but if Prince continues to release stuff like this I might stay a bit longer. The question is, how long this will last? I'm sure this was all worked out prior with Tidal, that he would release a new song just a week out from the end of the free trial. Cash grab, or just a sound business model? This is really no different from the days of B-sides, when they would be used to lure fans to buy the singles even if they had already bought (or planned to buy) the album.
