At best I'd give it a 3 out of 10. Not one great song, not nearly enough Prince, production that sounds dated and mostly bad songs with some not very talented women/girls singing on them. I expect more from Prince. Much more. Like PE, great idea, terrible execution. He really seems to have just lost his creativity. He used to be the trendsetter but that was long ago.

I'll say 4.5, gets better near the end but much of it is embarassing imo. I did initially think it had a sort of "so bad it's good" appeal for some of the cheesier dancey type tracks but right now I really don't feel like revisiting it again for the forseeable future, save 3 or 4 tracks.

exactly this. even a bad Prince album has a few delicious nuggets...this one has a few tasty morsels but it's his worst effort "up there" with Rave and MPLSound. Maybe worse.

7 out of 10.....The inclusion of 'Stare' would've helped

After many listens, 7/10, better than the naysayers said.

It flows well as an album and you have to realise he's trying a new genre, EDM, with this so you can't really compare easily to his other work. I also think it's more likely to appeal to the young as we have had more exposure to EDM previously.

Thankfully it doesn't have the irritating monologue tracks like in TRC and AOA - which you just have to skip on repeat listens, perhaps this is also why it flows well.

Would have ideally liked for it to be longer and include 'Free Yourself' and 'Stare' but maybe they will surface later!

Best tracks for me are the last 3 as well as the fun and surprisingly catchy Like A Mack.

after letting it grow on me with about 15+ listens..... 8.5/10

"Stare" and "Free URSelf" have both grown tremendously with repeat listens. "Stare" is really at about a 9/10 for me right now.

*Ain't About To Stop - 7.5/10 (would be an 8 or 8.5 except for the indecipherable "Razor Butt/Blood Clot" or whatever the hell they are saying)

*Like A Mack - 9.5/10 (Really disliked on first 3 listens)

*Million $ Show - 6.5 (Good song, and great singing, too bad there's not much Prince here.)

*Shut This Down - 8.0

*Fallinlove2night - 8.5 (would give the original version 9 or 9.5)

*X's Face - 9.0 - (love it, this is classic Prince stuff)

*Hardrocklover - 9.0 (love it, classic!)

*1000 X's & O's - 8.0 (original version with Nona Gaye is a 9 or 9.5)

*June - 8.5

*Mr Nelson - 8.0

*This Could Be Us us us us us - 7.0

A solid 8/10.

It's his best work since the Gold Experience. I don't say that lightly. Any album since 2000 has been tough for me to give multiple listens. I can't stop listening to this album.

AOA was poor. 3121. blah. Planet Earth (embarrassing). Don't get me started on Lotusflower etc. Rainbow Children? Unlistenable.

I love this album, look forward to something live. Remember when you listened to SOTT and thought, this is different than anything he's ever done? HITNRUN is that, only on steroids. I love was Josh has brought to the table.

Oh, please don't mention this album in the same breath as SOTT. SOTT sounds fresh even today because it has energetic hooks and his wittiest, most mature and introspective lyrics ever. HITNRUN is just a bunch of outdated production techniques and sad attempts at sounding hip amidst an absence of anything resembling a catchy tune.

P is having a great time on this album and his energy is contagious. Is this not obvious to everyone? It's a happy, upbeat collection for the most part--straight purple mack, baby, unlike AOA, which I still like. Crank it and enjoy it!
