Sorry, this bass & drum sound like a preset from an old ass keyboard.

As a song, it's great compared to a lot of what's here, but this one definitely suffers from the production, to me.

love the new version...but as soon as i heard the drum beat, i started to sing "rock the boat" (by aaliyah)...does anyone else hear it?? definitely a great track either way....

I hear 'Dont Look Any Further' - the beat/bass

Where? Similar, but definitely not the same. It's a typical steppers beat.

A very good song and I prefer this version to the 1992/1993 version with Elisa, Mayte or ?? Prince sings it better and with more conviction than the anomymous girlie back in 92/93. The version I have on the Work and 30 years is definitely not Rosie.

.

It hasa beautiful R and B sound and I love the beat with the sexually charged lyrics. Probably best jam on the album and a classic in the vein of Futuresoulsong, Prince's best song in the past 5 years.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

It was Nona Gaye. I agree best song on the album, along with Hardrocklover.

This could be a hit on Urban AC radio easily...would have been better choice than re-releasing THis Could B Us.

if you listen very closely to the groove of this track doesn't it remind you of toto's"africa"actually you can mix both of them together and it would be a nice fit(as a dj i could do this....lol)

The Rosie version never really registered with me much.

There is no "Rosie" version. The original is a collaboration with Nona Gaye.

You're right and wrong. I've listened again (iVault) and yes it is Nona, but I believe it was recorded with Rosie too? Not sure if it's in circulation though.

I can't stop listening to this...full Prince passion power...especially that part around 3:00 after "Cuz I'm gonna give 1,000 reasons why we need 2 be alone" - Aaaaaahhhhh - UuuUuuuU, baby, baby...that high vocal part is worth more than someones whole album.

I've never heard, or don't remember hearing, the old version. With that said, I like this song, and it's one of my favs on HnR. It's got a cool/romantic vibe to it, and this is another song I can hear on the radio.

didn't like the album but this is the best song out of the bunch. It could have been great but it doesn't go anywhere. a little arranging wouldn't have hurt

I find it pretty amazing that the vast majority of people here prefer the new one to the olkd one. I just thought this could never happen with a rerecorded circulating outtake nod

Really like the HitnRun version. Currently my most played track on the album. The beat is solid, the vocals are in the register I prefer and there is little embelishment, something he often over indulges in unnecessarily. I could see this doing well as a commerical radio freindly single release.

Weird choice to pull out of the vaults, wonder how it got to Josh's attention? I'm assuming that the keyboard hook is down to Josh, which is a plus.

The vocals are classic Prince, in a nice range. The lyrics are clearly written for a female perspective (at least for early '90s Prince), with the male fantasy of the sympathetic woman at home waiting for her man to return home after a hard day's work. It is interesting to hear Prince singing this to a woman now, and it kind of stands in contrast to This Could B Us, where he also mildly berates his working woman ("I know you're loving your freedom, cuz your freedom is paying the bills. Boyfriends? You think you don't need them" etc). I wonder if he is no longer prepared to keep someone in a life of luxury and is now sending his girlfriends out to work for their supper?

It doesn't do too much radically different from the original, it is another song like Like A Mack that is a crafted pop/rnb song with a tight verse/chorus so Josh doesn't go too crazy with the noises and gadgets and it works the better for it.

Maybe she does--that's why there's so much loving waiting for her--the woman's been gone for a long time, and he's been waiting.
