I love this song! My friends on Facebook are saying, "I don't like that song". They probaby are secretly laughing at me, but I don't care. This song is so catchy, happy and fun!

Having someone else sing lead on the opening track to a Prince album just makes it a no go for me. In fact, I think this fact killed HNR for me as a while on first listen. It just gives the impression he isn't taking the album seriously or something...

This is a GREAT opener. Upbeat and damn catchy. M$S is fresh, contemporary, punctuated with flourishes of classic Prince sounds. By having Judith take on lead vox on this opening track, P. drives home the point that the intro makes: HITnRUN is a departure from any previous projects. M$S is a lighthearted, infections jam that anyone from any generation can move to. This is Prince doing what he mastered a long time ago--radio-friendly, irresistably groovy, sit-up-and-take-notice dance music.

Exactly. Which is what an opener is supposed to do, and the song accomplishes this to great effect (IMO).

This is the most skippable track for me simply because theres not enough prince vocals on it. It should have been left for judith hill. Shut it down would have been a good album opener for HnR . Its like having 2 album openers to start the album. Million dollar show is not needed.

its ok, but too much Mrs. hill...sounds like a rip off....

I haven't listened to this track much -- maybe once.

I start the album with track 2. I'll give it a spin soon but my initial reaction was that it's not the right track to start this album.

I agree. I can't stop listening to this song, I am absolutely hooked on it.

Some additional thoughts about this song:

Does anybody else think the guitar in parts of this song (at the beginning) sound a bit like the Chaka Khan song, "Ain't Nobody"? I noticed that, and wondered if anybody else heard the similarity.

Love the guitar work in this song. I always laugh when Prince says, "C'mon, ya guuuuuys!" Don't know why, but it always tickles me when I hear it. I also love it when Prince does the, "Bup ba doo" during the instrumental part of the song. It just fits in there perfectly.

I never heard of Judith Hill until now, but that girl can saaaang! She has a lot of talent and potential. I love her singing voice! She has very powerful vocals, just like Shelby and some other female singers that Prince has worked with.

The strings at the end of the song, for some reason, make me think of the Wizard of Oz. I don't know why, but it just does.

this song! I had it on constant play yesterday, I love it that much. I don't get really excited about most of the songs that Prince releases today (sadly). So when he releases one that I really love, I'm like, "Oh hell yeah! This is my jam!"

It would be awesome if Prince would to do a tour, and open his show with Judith singing this song. It would be awesome if Prince were to sing this song by himself as well. I would love to hear this song being performed live!

Now that you mention it, Prince does sound a bit like Bugs Bunny when he says, "Come on ya guuuuys!"

Nothing is "wrong" with anybody liking "Million $ Show". People have the right to like this song, as much as you have the right not to like it. It's not that serious!

Prince's solo voice portion as heard as the concert intro's is not present on the album version. There is clearly an edit that takes out the "Welcome to the mili million dollar show" multi layered Prince vocal after the first verse heard over the PA at live shows. Without a strong Prince vocal presence on the track, I don't feel it's as good a song as it otherwise could have been. Feels a little like we were headed for another Grafitti Bridge to me with the opener...let me hear Prince on a Prince album please.

I didn't notice that before so just listened to the intro. Shame he didn't leave that bit in and more of his vocals.

As a few have said, the intro does kill this song a bit, I don't know why Prince does this, he did it with Musicology and it only reminds you of better times. And there is no flow or skill with the mix, it is just really artlessly done.

Having said that I like this song, it is really catchy. Stays just on the right side of cheesy and lasts as long as it needs to, ie short and sweet. A funny song to use Judith on as it is so different from her album, but she is good with the material. Some good bass and rythmn guitar on this on, like Prince is enjoying stretching out on the bass.

Why on Earth do you want to remind people of a time, many, many years back, when you actully were putting out great music? Not one second on this album stands up compared to anything he did back in the 80s. I just don't get it.

The intro rehashes an idea that was much more effectively done on Musicology. And it's both bold and stupid to compare this stuff to that stuff.

Also bold and stupid to use another singer on the first track of your first album, but it wouldn't be Prince if he didn't ruin the potential to create a great album from start to finish. He usually doesn't ruin that opportunity quite so quickly, however.

That said, I don't mind the song itself
