100 X'S & 0'S is brilliant. As is June. Both real keepers I already know I'll be returning to in the future.

1000 X's and O's is a real keeper. I can see June growing on me, but I expected more after reading all the praise here.

It's the best track on the album by far... The rest doesn't even sound like PRINCE...

1000 X's and O's and Hardrocklover IMO are the two best tracks on this "album".

You are obviously reading a different thread than I am. Because I can see a lot more criticism in here than praise.

What a horrible MESS!

Josh needs to learn restraint... you don't just ram as many sound effects as you can into a track... and Prince, WTF? You allowed this to be released?

These songs aren't great to start with but the production really stinks. There is NOTHING interesting in this album. It's just a bland wall of noise.

The only halfway ok track is June and I think thats because its the only one that has any degree of passion.

What a steaming pile of crap, Prince. Please don't release this beyond Tidal.

Shouldnt it be 1000 O's and X's? Hug = O and Kiss = X?

Yes, it sure should be. Morever, there is no reason to use apostrophes, as the hugs and kisses are plural rather than possessive. The fact that Prince can't even get the title right to one of his older songs is pretty pathetic. Yes, I know it's not the first time (see "Feel Better...") but that just makes it worse.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

As an album of B-Sides for PE/AOA it's fine. Could have been called "HITSNMISSES."

On Tidal, is there a way to view how everyone rates the songs in STARS? That would be helpful. Many of these songs would probably be received better if they were accompanied by Rihanna like videos. Prince, please go hire RiRi's video gurus for "X'S FACE."

1000 X'S & 0'S

(more grammatically correct: "1000 XS & OS") is actually kinda sweet after dusting it off a bit more.

JUNE

Still wonderful. Soulful. Spiritual. Very Zen-like. Yet lighthearted. A bit melancholy, but the music conveys contentment.

That was easily the least impressed I've ever been with a Prince album on first listen. Wow.

As a longtime reader of your posts, I seem to remember you ran out of scatalogical imagery when you first listened to AOA, something I had not thought possible. Your reaction this time around is estrained by comparison.

not sure what you mean by that, but after KCOOLMUZIC, im propably one of the more supportive commenters here, always waving the Paisley Flag proudly...but this HitNrun joint is breaking my heart...ive considered the idea that it may possibly grow on me after a few more listens...but not grow on me in a positive way...more like a malignant tumor....ima have to borrow King Sausage's sentiment, and go listen to Black Messiah to clear my mind...like K.S.said,Prince needs to hire Pino Palladino, Jesse Johnson, Questlove, Roy Hargrove and them and Ttell BOTH Weltons to get to steppin...send them cornballs back to Illinois...FOH...

I am on the verge of cancelling my Amazon pre-order. Will listen to a lot on tidal up until I can't anymore… and then re-order should my feelings change. I think although I don't necessarily like the styles it could grow on me, but for the fact that some if it is too much of everything all at once. And is it me or do the tracks seem to really jolt into each other? Like a mac. Ain't about to stop. Shut this down feel like they could've been there for me but suffer from more is less rather than the other way around.

Its a shame really, Prince has excluded quite a lot of his fan base by putting this on Tidal. Many countries, mine included, can not use Tidal because it is blocked in our region. I suppose i will have to go hunting for it elsewhere....

Just listened to it. I think it's a really cool follow-up to AOA. I remember some folks thought alot of AOA was too mellow at times, well this album makes up for that. And there's actually profanity on it...he just edited em out. Haha...

On another note, I'm loving the other "lost" albums he put on here. It's cool they're finally publicly available again.

Standout tracks on HNR so far for me:
SHUT THIS DOWN
AIN'T ABOUT TO STOP
X'S FACE
HARDROCKLOVER
1000 X'S & O'S
JUNE
Exiles of the Nation
"Liquidation", the NEW 18th LP. Available everywhere now.

AOA and PE demostrated more than any previous album how well Prince plays with and off the hits of others and showcases the talents (not just the rear ends) of female artists (unlike most leading male artists out there).

At least U can hear what prince is saying on every track. Instead of mumbling to one groove on each track throughout the WHOLE album...disbelief At least it's taking a chance by being experiemental & not rahashing an OLD sound after disappearing 4 YEARS.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

From what its sounding like here...Josh gave him an almost Beyonce record, which in todays landscape makes sense, because lets face it - younger people have a different aesthetic and taste level, which doesn't lend itself to longevity and thats okay.

So is this album better than Rebel Heart? Because they are now both chasing the under 30 consumer.

Way Back Home is a great somewhat rare personal track with a catchy chorus. I walk round singing in my perfect falsetto 'until I...I find my...my way back... home' all day after listening to it.

At the moment all I'm getting from June is that he's burnt his pasta.

My 3 cents, yes I am more old school prince but I always hope for a wasted kisses or fury or rainbow children surprise:

Some positive thoughts... glad to see some less popular albums avail in lossless. Also the purple pick has opportunity to be huge and could be cool....will it prob not.

Million$ Grade B-- good hook but bad choice of production and hip hop prince doesn't work for me

Shut this down Grade F-- cringing... and the bad loop is horrible. nice bass

ain't about to stop. Grade F.. please god stop this

like a mac Grade D- boring 90"s style hip hop based, chick on this rhianna type boring

This could be us. grade b.. not the worst.. good guitar and bass portion

Fallinlove2nite- Grade A. I love this track for awhile. catchy, cheesy pop that has a hook... might miss Zooey's vocal a little

X's face- Grade C . just not much to bring you in

hardrocklover- Grade B. good groove a little cheesy on the lyrics.

Mr. Nelson. Grade C as expected clouds remix... which is a 10/10 of song... but this is doesn't have much

1,000 x and o -- grade b. decent hook, the syncopated kick drum part is familiar from another song.

June- Grade D. nothing going on.. seems like just one verse... no chorus or whatever

Overall 1-3 tracks I will return to, the rest I will leave. nothing that makes me think I need a few more listens.

PRINCE PLEASE GET A TRUE FNG PRODUCER WHO WILL MAKE CHOICES YOU CAN"T SEEM TO MAKE FOR YEARS<

Music is the best...

Nope, I still think this is an amazing album.

Somewhat subdued only because there is no 7/8 minute long tracks, but what is there is concise, and Prince's vocal is perfect for the atmospheric feel of a lot of the beats.

Only downside is that the Rita Ora track has changed since it was previewed, but it sounds good to hear Prince taking a more masculine approach.

Wow... that was far far far better than I expected! eek Maybe I'm still in shock, but I feel very pleased!

When the album and it's concept were announced, I was hoping for at least some long instrumental jams using this 'new' 'Josh sound', only then I could cope with it. But then I saw the tracks timings and started to worry. Once I started to listen I understood and accepted the whole concept: that it really is 'HITNRUN', short and sweet (almost like a 40min mixtape) and I started to love it! When I listen to this as an experiment, as a fresh unstoppable machine track after track... it works!

Thought the sequencing worked pretty well (a few exceptions) and this time even X'S FACE and FALLINLOVE2NITE sounded fun to me. 1000 X'S AND O'S is amazingly classy, and JUNE is pretty strong too.

The album of course starts with some samples, but I had the idea that there were more old Prince sounds (in particular from his first 2 albums?) showing up again. And the SHUT THIS DOWN beat reminded me of the '7' loop.

Fun project, not a masterpiece per se, but props to Prince anyway! cool

I've burnt pasta. Well it was spaghetti but technically its pasta.

Now you've confused me (which isn't hard before you say), what do you mean he's far away?
