38 minutes. Shortest album in quite a while. Hopefully this will be soon complemented by Phase Two...

.

Maybe this time we will see a "more parts" release like Sananda-TTD has done with his latest four albums.

huge Prince fan but - not the strongest effort really on this one - after 2 listens -

------------

really like:

Shut This Down

Ain't About 2 Stop

1,000 Xs and Os

Like A Mack

Hardrocklover - track order does not work , this should have been after June, this and Shut This Down are the best 2

------------

these are all right:

Million Dollar Show - would be better if he sang more on it

June - interesting but not a classic

------------

filler , which would be fine if there were more music on the release:

X's Face - really like this but have had it

mr.nelson - why bother

Fallinlove2nite - ok song, but old

This Could B Us - nice mix and all but as one of the tracks on an album with so few songs?

-------------

Am happy some rare releases are seeing the light of day again (even on Tidal) - about time they have been made available - but not being able to 'own' them in such better quality sucks.

-------------

HITnRUN PhaseOne - 5.5/10

-------------

HITnRUN PhaseTwo please , quickly!

So you really like 6 tracks (over half the album) and think 2 are all right and you gave it 5.5/10? Basically you won't skip 6 to 8 songs on an 11 song album and it's a 5.5? Ok I respect it.

like 5 out of 11, 2 are ok - so there you are smile - I wouldn't put those 2 on a playlist in a month

First impressions: doesn't sound like a Prince album. More like something my 9 year old daughter listens to (Nicki Minaj, Megan Trainor, Rita Ora etc)

.

How pointless is Mr Nelson; it isn't even track, more like a segue. Sounds like some cheesy circus interval music.

.

1000 Hugs & Kisses is great. Along with Hardrocklover these 2 are top Prince tracks.

.

June sounds promising but I'd never let him make pasta again.

The version played at PP a couple of months back was longer.

Going to save my opion on the album as a whole until after I have listened to it a few times, quick skim through this morning, I just remember thinking about Million $ Show that it sounded like it should be on a Beyonce album from 5+ years ago.

After hearing this album just once I can only say that I'm flabergasted....and not in a positive way. How did it come to this?

Some of the lyrical content on the first three tracks were simply embarrassing & cringeworthy to listen to. e.g.

"My ice is cold"

"you can never see, how i got so funkee"

"I come from North Minnie & and dont run from Any"- has he reverted to a ten year old? wtf.

As for the production what on earth was I listening to? -

- How had 1000 hugs been reduced to an R&B filler - where was the catchy sax hook & guitar riff? Instead it's just a rehashed synth beat from the 90s

- Why have Rita Ora on your album if you're going to drown her out with Euro Trash noise?

- Mr Nelson, sure it's a remix but what was this musically? A La Isla Bonita sample on repeat that then becomes David Guetta throwaway?

The only time the production sounds interesting is when it's toned down and you can can actually hear Prince playing like the bass on Shut it Down or the guitar on HardRockLover / This Could be Us

No offence to Josh but his legacy is going to be worse than Kirky J's in the Prince canon.

Despite this I'm sure like every Prince album I'm going to condition myself to like this, I just wish Prince would grow up and let his music showcase that maturity like it did with the Rainbow Children.....

It's all a bit lazy

I agree with what you're saying regarding the laziness of using already released songs on a 'new' album. It just doesn't make sense to me. I disagree with you on liking the more contemporary songs though. The reason I listen to Prince is because I don't like modern pop. I find this whole dance music craze very irritating. Everybody sounds like everybody else. Now Prince does too.
I hope this album grows on me but I just don't like it yet.

What a steaming pile of shit.

It's not a Prince album. At least other Prince album that are below average have some form of intrigue for us, as in Prince's thought process or little flashes of genius. But with this effort we do not even get that... as it's not Prince. It's Josh.

Meaningless.

Prince is following... not even trying to lead.

How.

Why.

WTF.

No need to wonder why WB didn't want further encur loses entertaining Prince's goofing off and his ego. That he somehow felt that such a pos track would make it into an album says it all.

Poor Josh. Sad that Prince had to pin all this crappiest album on him.

The first few tracks are cringe worthy, still Hardrocklover and Mr Nelson are kinda good though.

Million $ Show: I like it...very good but not great. Kind of weak as an opener.
Shut This Down: Very funky and brutal...I LOVE IT!!! Should have been track one!
Ain't About To Stop: Doesn't really feel like a Prince track...I'm not into it.
Like A Mack: Same as above.
This Could B Us: Really dig this one...love the guitar solo!!!
Fallinlove2nite: Weird to hear without Zooey Deschanel on it, but I like this fun dance song!
X's Face: Funky and sexy...I LOVE IT!!!
Hardrocklover: LOVE IT!!!
Mr. Nelson: I really dig this and wish it was longer. Reminds me of a modern version of the instrumental portion of I Wanna Be Your Lover.
1,000 X's and 0's: Was surprised by how minimalist it is, but I dig it. Has a real ethereal vibe that reminds me of Way Back Home.
June: For me this is Way Back Home pt. 2, albeit less deep and emotional. Great end to the album.

Its a shame really, Prince has excluded quite a lot of his fan base by putting this on Tidal. Many countries, mine included, can not use Tidal because it is blocked in our region. I suppose i will have to go hunting for it elsewhere....

Knowing Prince he'll hear about some of the negative comments about this album and decide to not release any physical copies.

Hopefully! This "album" needs to go away.... fast. No physical release means no one will remember it and this might be for good.

I´ve never been this irritated by a Prince release before. So, NEXT please.

Or maybe he'll release something the majority of his fanbase will like. Which I know wouldn't be easy seeing how diverse a fanbase he has but getting rid of Josh and 3rdeyegirl and just locking himself away in the studio for a while would be a start.

This "HitNRun" album is a continuation of the "Art Official Age" album.. isn't it? (imho it is..)

I liked the AOA-album, and I like this new "pop album" as well,

Imho it's great... all of it.. yes I like all songs (so far), I have listened to it 2 times only.. listening now,

It's great but.... yet not "brilliant" (like his classics stuff from Warner Bros. 1978-1995)...

"HitNRun" isn't in my top-20 Prince-albums list (of course not).. wink

Most of his 80s albums I rate 10/10 from "1999" to "Lovesexy" (those masterpieces and those in between),

-- I think I will rate "HnR" about 7/10, maybe it will grow or shrink for me the next days/ weeks.. who no's. smile

It's different...... but I really like it a lot.. to me it's kind of "refreshing"... music

Something else. More like a remix but not even a remix. I can't put it into words, I'm sure one of the other orgers will explain it better. I love clouds but I'll never listen to Mr nelson again.

yes Mr Nelson is a sample - with the line "we don't need no clouds", actually more - also some voice from Lianna Le Havas or whatever her name is.. it's kind of a seague, not a real song - I like it, the guitar is good..

Ouch. Double Ouch. I am lost for words. It is shite. I thought I was safe lowering my expectations so so low, but not safe. Oh no. That Million dollar show just knocks my expectations so far into the ground neither them nor the album recovers. I could listen to Hardrocklover, 1000 hugs and kisses and June, I admit. but the rest is embarrassing. Imagine going to the release on Sunday to hear this trite when you could have seen D'angelo live with pure beautiful organic funk....

To me this is officially the worst Prince album to date unfortunately.

A solid 7/10 from me, the new songs are mostly pretty damn great - "Shut This Down" is the highlight, I also love "Ain't About To Stop", and the new version of "A 1000 X's and O's" is awesome.

What lets the album down is the recycling. I still like FALLINLOVE2NITE but we didn't need to have it on this album. We didn't need the remix of "This Could Be Us" and we didn't need the random "Mr. Nelson" interlude using bits of "Clouds".

A very short album - but I love over half of it, so that warrants a good score in my book? It's not a classic by any means but a solid effort. Well done Prince and Josh.

Yeah, that's how I feel! I didn't get 20Ten until yearslater and then I could only think, it's not so bad after all! Maybe I'll feel the same about this album. Eventually I'll hear it, but I'm not really in a hurry.

Hi Militant, you are right..

Great, and I agrees with you, this album isn't bad at all. Very good to see a mod actually going up against the "sea" of negative opinions, here. lol cool biggrin

People here should maybe give it time, or whatever.... not that they have to.. but this album is actually rather good and rather "solid", (like you wrote Militant)...

I am happy, not being totally alone liking this, that "warmth me a bit".. LOL.... lol

Ex's Face is on here.. wonderful song.. that monkey sound and that talk about bananas, haha great.

Actually I believe this will grow for me, been listening 3-4 times now.. it keeps getting better.
