As brilliant as is! Eye'm sure he recorded the new fourthcoming, blockbuster, hit single "Stare" within the same hour as "bAlItImOrE". Then had them both mixed & sent to get mastered by the end of the nite, 2 b included on the new funk album "FreeUrSelf"..... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! WGU is hot garbage. Stare sounds nothing like it. And I don't think Stare is great by any stretch
First time i heard the stare snippets I heard the similarities to we gets up. They are definitely there. |

Sure there are similarities or a dozen people wouldn't have remarked upon it (seemingly, anyway). I happen to like We Gets Up. Never fully understood the violent revulsion to it...As far as a new Prince album this summer, not a chance. |

Either NOT.
Or in a rerecorded version with horns or so that will make it worse than the original. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

Note you still have these two dimensional opinions.
Dimension one: Prince is desperate for publicity.
Dimension two: Prince just wants to make as much as money as he can.
He may have recorded many of the songs well before Baltimore, so where do you get the sequence 1) now that he had all the promo Baltmore 2) he's doing party music?
You heard snippets so you don't know if it's all "party music" and most of the album was likely recorded before Baltimore, so this is just you seeing things the way you want to see them, nothing more.
.
He once stopped an album release when they were SHIPPING PHYSICAL COPIES and paid millions to do so. But he was unable to stop his own Twitter account from posting links to three short snippets he uploaded on YouTube?
.
If he cares so much about the issues surrounding Baltimore (which BTW was just one of many, many examples), why isn't he following up on that? D'Angelo released an entire album centered around that theme, yet here's Prince mere weeks later and he's back to party mode. Did I miss something, were all those issues now solved?
.
So here's a simpler explanation: Prince doesn't give one fuck about anything except his own damn self, and he used Baltimore to enhance his profile. Hell, just look at the crappy song he released: does that sound like he genuinely cares?
Oh that's such exagerated talk, "doesn't give one shit", and crude too. You don't know how much he cares, you're just projecting that YOU don't give one shit if he does, then you have the inevitable D'Angelo does it better part because you need someone on whom to bestow your approval as a counterpoint to your chronic Prince bashing disorder.
Obviously you won't have much to contribute to the discussion when the songs are out, since you closed your ears long ago.

This is one of dumbest posts I have ever read. If D'angelo, Prince, Public Enemy and Rage Against The Machine released 50 albums about urban unrest in disenfrancised African-American communities, these issues will not solved. No one musician is going to get rid of poverty, police brutality, hopelessness, joblessness, disparity of quality of education in in urban communities, voter apathy and corruption by simply singing about those issues. The quality of the songwriting and music on "Baltimore" is fair game to be critical of-that's a matter of musical taste. But what's out-of-bounds to me is when you question Prince's sincerity to lending his voice and talent to give relief to the community the song is named after. You don't know what Prince is doing behind the scenes nor what is in Prince's heart. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and rag about the action or perceived inaction of participants on the field. Also, since did Prince turn into a political activist? Did you really expect Prince to follow up "Baltimore" with songs in the vein of Curtis Mayfield or Bob Marley? If so, then you'll be waiting for Chuck D to rap with Miley Cyrus, Lil Wayne to start a jazz trio and for Fox News to be "fair and balanced". SMDH 3121 #1 THIS YEAR |

I joined the 3 parts into one track in garageband using the 3rd part as a chorus (after verse 1 and 2) - with a little bit of dupliaction to make the joins smooth - i left in some of the explosion noises aswell. I got it to 1:33 in length. It's actually a bit of a jam - although does remind me of We Gets Up a little bit! |

Meh! Just another phoned in bland funk number. If this is supposed to be the lead off single, or the song that Prince wants to get us interested in a new album, then it doesn't bode very well (in my opinion). It seems like Prince has no interest in trying to push himself musically any more. For me, all of his albums the past few years, seems to have a 'That'll do' feeling about them. |

Yeah, the song is alright, but it's whatever. Possibly hearing the entire song could make a difference. What I heard from the sample of it was basically another song with lyrics boasting about how great he is. ("our songs poppin' in the streets"?) |

Don't know how anyone could not be excited by this: new music from an incredible artist. I listened to the samples, once, as I don't see much point in listening more than once. I get on with my life until there's more news or something is released. Assuming there's a physical release I buy without hesitation, as I've never regretted buying a Prince release, even if it I don't rate it highly (ahem, plecelec).
I don't think you can judge on a short sample. Songs that are instantly likeable often lack longevity. ----------
