Underrated: The Chocolate Invasion. It's flawed, but I think it would rank a little higher in Prince's canon if it wasn't an internet only release.

I always thought that if you pick the correct songs from "Chocolate" and "Slaughterhouse",
you'd have a pretty decent album.

Overrated:

The Gold Experience

The originally planned Gold is much better. TGE has aged a bit poorly and sounds overproduced a lot of the time. It's still generally good though.

Underrated:

Emancipation

I know, I know, there is a lot of filler. It's not a great album. Still, if you have this full album on your iPod, you have access to some of the best songs he's ever written. Love songs like Friend/Lover and Soul Sanctuary are absolutely magnificent, and some of the pop songs like Face Down are full of attitude and instantly catchy. Also, The Love We Make is one of his best songs ever.

Agreed. Although TCI is my favorite out of the two, a mix of both of those would've been even better.

Overated: The Black Album

It's a good album but it's nowhere near as good as people make it out to be, it's only so popular because of it's notoriety

Underrated: Graffiti Bridge

Although the filler tracks are a bit shit the Prince tracks are brill on this album. I think a lot of people get turned off from this album too because of it's affiliation with the movie. Like someone mentioned above, I like this album because it's a softer side of Prince we don't always see.

V10LETBLUES

Overrated: The Gold Experiance- I never could see why people used to praise it as they did, but it looks like its's bottoming out to more appropriate levels.

Underrated: Planet Earth- Somewhere Here On Earth alone. It's the minimum standsard of what Prince production should sound like. The tittle track is kinda interesting. Chelsa Rodgers, lkewise well produced. Don't get the hate on this one, not the greatest, but certainly not as bad as MPLSound or AOA. The production on this album is light years better than most post 80's Prince albums.

Most over rated - Love symbol, okay a few good tracks and sublime singing, but this is an over rated turd of an album, riddled with terrible rapping by Tony M and others, Rapey type lyrics in some songs, bad bimbo squeaking raps (Stop sign, green, rolls royce etc). It is a self indulgent quirk fest. Lets face it, this is the album which cost him most of his won back fans from Diamonds and Pearls.

.

Other overrated albums - Musicology - What is so great about this album, its as boring as hell, and the songs have started to date ... badly.

.

Most Under rated - 20Ten, this album is a grower and has 9 very tight songs and 1 less good one. Future Soul song was his finest ballad since the Gold Experience and the quality of Compassion, beginning endlessly and Sticky like glue are also amazing. Laydown is a cool song. I am not saying its Purple Rain, but this album is not the beast it is made out to be. This is a short, sweet and supremely cool little album. Funny enough I really hated it when it came out, but now I just love it more every time I listen to it. It really is AOA's funky father and it is obvious this is to AOA what Controversy was to 1999.

.

Other under rated albums - Planet earth (Come on its not that bad), Chaos and Disorder (Surprisingly tight rock album with only one bad song - I rock therefore I am, and take the rapper and ragga guy out and it is decent).

.

Finally, please lay off the Gold Experience, this album has a huge core of fans here and it is not that dated, besides he recorded it in 1994, it sounds like an album from 1994. Prince did not jump in a time machine and say "Take me to 2015 and lets record the Gold Experience then and come back to now and release, all so some dudes can say in 2015, it is not dated at all"

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'm changing my vote MPLSound is severely underrated. Not one bad song on the album Ol Skool Company is a 2 1/2 song but everything else is solid. Overrated is the Black Album I can't remember the last time I listened to it start to finish and I bought it in 1995.

Underrated:

Rave Un2 (I Love U But... is the best ballad Prince ever wrote, and songs like WYGWYD, TGRES and Strange But True are amongst his best 90s work)

Planet Earth (a huge relief after two mediocre releases, just some good old fashioned quality songwriting)

MPLSound (Dance 4 Me, Ol Skool Company, Better With Time, No More Candy 4 U and Here are all brilliant tracks)

Emancipation (Face Down, In This Bed Eye Scream, New World, Soul Sanctuary, The Human Body, Joint 2 Joint... all amongst his best 90s songs)

Chaos & Disorder (pretty much love the whole album, even I Rock Therefore I Am has its charm)

Overrated:

Gold (good album, but not as good as everyone likes to pretend)

D&P (Prince's most dated album)

3121 (Just a lack of good songs)

AOA (too downtempo and a bit desperate in places)
