I did not yet listen to it and now I'm afraid to, based on KS's reaction.

Just remember: either Pricne is guilty of being old school or he's guilty of chasing trends to avoid being considered passél.

That's why I thini Art Official Age is one of Prince' s most brilliant albums, considering he had a spotty record on his attempts to "catch up with the times", AOA feels convincing rather than semi there or comletely off.

It's not bad. But the reactions here made it sound like it was Dorothy Parker part 2. But I'm an asshole, so what do I know?

the only way a song like this will ever be good is if the production is awesome. The production is not awesome.

.

To me this sounds pretty dated and amateur, but i'm curious about something: When Pheromone came out, did some people feel the same way about it as I feel about The Ex's Face? Like, IIRC, Bart thinks that Prince's house music is shitty. But is he the only one? Was there ever a contingent of fans who thought Prince's house music was just an inept copy of a trend that was already a few years old? 'Cause I love Pheromone, but maybe if I knew more early 90s dance music I'd say, "yeah I know what this song is trying to do, and it's doing it badly..."

.

I compare The Ex's Face to Pheromone because I think they both try to work in the same way. Neither of them win you over with a classic, catchy melody or a nice chord progression, it's all about texture and groove.

I loved Pheromone then, and think it stands up now...but back them yeah most people hated it. Princes house music could be great if he really wanted it to, but I feel its a throwaway for him. For someone like him house music is a joke.

Im less afraid now to check this track out .... Im gonna go hunt it down I missed it...

surprised Prince allowed those shitty hiphop hi hats at the end of the song to be on it. the song is the definition of unmemorable imo

This one is actually good.

Not just good in comparison to that atrocious What If track, but good in general.

I love it when Prince embraces his inner freak. lol

No, sorry. We can't ask that. Unless it's still streaming on site that of the radio station that Prince himself gave the track to.

Prince put this out to radio as a "feeler" track I believe. He gave us a snippet earlier and now a full release. I figure he's trying to gauge what direction he is going in for his next album release. Same thing with "What If". One hard funk groove and the other a rock jam.

It's not the worst thing ever, but it's kind of a snooze. I expected much more from everyone's description. It sounds like more Prince chasing trends. And he says "TWAS" again. TWAS. What the fuck?!

Agreed. It's a significant improvement over What If on many levels, but it seems like an unfinished idea.

It's not bad at all... It's not the snooze fest of songs featured in Planet Earth, or the belowe average tracks from Lotus Flow3r, or the bland sounds from 20Ten... This is a new sound.

It's not his greatest work ofc not, after 35 years, it's something DIFFERENT. For those who can't embrace change and want to live in the 80's, will not be able to appreciate something NEW.

It is not different. And it is not good.

Add to that, that the new single by Muse is also crap and this day has started badly...

I dig it! I agree it doesn't really go anywhere, but it's a nice new sound with some humor, which I can appreciate. Almost wish it was a little bit longer, but it's probably best short & sweet.

I like the song, but the electronic sound effects and the banana jokes ruin it.

A few months ago or maybe it was years,
It was a heartbreak, so many tears
How is she gonna make it out here on her own
A body like that should never be alone

A kiss on the stairway, another man's embrace
How was she to know just what was taking place
Too busy with the jugular and how it would taste
To remember what she saw in the ex's face

The ex's face
The ex's face

Long time ago or maybe yesterday
You and I in a chariot on our way
To a purple celebration from what we would learn
That for every battle won there are scars and burns

For every broken heart there is another will mend
Who needs enemies when you've got friends
For every open door there is something in the way
And last time we checked it was the ex's face

The ex's face
Everybody know about the ex's face

Black don't crack, beige don't age
Go and take that banana then get back to your cage

The ex's face
Go and take that banana, take it
The ex's face
Get in, I said you can have it
The ex's face

(inaudible female voice in the background)
