I can't even take this as a serious question.

Prince does the WORK, Madonna writes checks.

How hard is it 2 hire the producer of the moment?

Grab yer coats everybody, we're done here! lol

Madona is smart enough to know what she needs to make the record work. Some lose sight and start to buy their own hype.
Lots of A students end up underperforming becasue they know they can pull an all nighter to get an average grade - while C students often work hardrer to bring up their grade. I think that totally applies in the case above.

the question - Bowie. Even musically.

lol at those who think that Madonna's "still" relevant today.

Hasn't had a decent album since the turn of the century.

But to answer your question..... Bowie >>>>>>>>> Prince >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Madonna.

"She's old" "She needs to retire already" "I was tired of Madonna back when people knew what a rotary phone was"

.

Prince reinvents himself as Dr. Frankenfurter with his sapphic trio... brilliance.

Prince and Madonna are the same age, why should she retire when she can sell out a tour and start it over and sell it out again world wide

Who asked you if you liked Madonna or not, the OP asked Who Rules in Reinvention

.

.

And as a HUGE Prince fan who believes the look/the fashion etc reflect the music, I can say, that Prince most of the time in the 1990s has not been brilliant, a lot of it made no sense, a freaky distraction at times. in the 2000s the look mostly was the same, bell bottoms, suites and big shirts, sometimes ruffled shirts and hats from 2001-2008

.

It was only during the Welcome 2 tours till know that we got to see Prince break out of that mold.

BUT the direction of the albums with the look did not always match or make sense

Prince was always still Prince. Madonna became somebody else (Marilyn, flamenco dancer, Asian, lol, etc.). Madonna.

O Beautiful One

Prince has changed himself too to be accepted or stay relevant.

There were many times I feel Prince was lost.

Prince in various ways did the same thing Madonna did.

During the Musicology 3121 period Prince became Asian too

He became a wanna be gansta rocker

He became 0-+> a Slave Tora Tora

etc

.

I'm not one that needs too much visual/musical change. A little change, take away/add on would have always been perfect for me, I think Prince did that good in the 1980s my favorite looks were the 1999/Purple Rain/ATWIAD/Parade look followed by the SOTT/Lovesexy and then the Dirty Mind/Controversy. In those years we see a blend of past/present looks. 1980s A+

.

I think Prince might have changed TOO MUCH at times, especially when the albums were not always that hot and especially when he wasn't promoting them. So there really was not much reinvention. A lot of times those albums had no cohesive flow.

.

(just in reference MJ for example has a very similar style look from Thriller onward, there was change, adding onto the look, but there was a consistent look. And that was cool. I don't think MJ had to change up much. And it worked)

.

Madonna I don't think changed as much as Prince but more than MJ. And I think her albums had more of cohesive flow to the message and direction, connected to the style and fashion/look of the music. She did a really grood job of it. But she like MJ added onto her look, she played with past looks/styles and there was a reinvention of who she was but there was always a foundation of herself as an entertainer.

.

Prince again in the 1980s had it extremely strong, Prince has a very unique and distinct sound that truly was his. And the style/look (along with the proteges) matched. After the 1990s the 'sound' in my opinion was lost (I always heard peaks of it in the ballads and similar songs like Tangerine)

People might know who she is... she still makes shitty music. Take Bjork over Madonna any day.

lol and sell out tour world wide

But the discussion isn't about this

It is about reinvention: so I guess that is a combination of Music(direction/message) and style

well another way of looking at it: David Bowie, Prince and Bjork were/is in the front row seat when it comes to musical reinvention, Madonna jumps on the hay-wagon when the hype is (almost) over...

For example: Prince worked with electronic producer in 1989 (The Future and The Chair remixes), Madonna in 1998 (Ray of Light). Or is this off-topic because looks is more important than music? smile

Prince also did more of that electronic stuff and forays into house on the Gold Experience and other NPG releases that failed

like Hypnoparadise

in the 1980s Prince in my opinion, nailed it the Music-sound/direction/message + the style/look always worked. It was magic.

.

in the 1st 1/2 of the 1990s Prince got lost at times, even though it wasn't my fav the 1991-1994 look matched the direction he took with the hard edge gansta glam look.
The band though has always during this period looked like a bunch of misfits

.

in the 2nd 1/2 of 1990's Prince stopped promoting albums. most of the tours and shows were about the Hits and covers and maybe 1 or 2 songs from the current album. The look style would be nice but how does consistantly doing Hit n Run shows with nice style = mastering Reinvention?

.

1999/2000 I loved the look, but again another Hit n Run themed show

.

2001/2002 ONA/Rainbow Children, I loved the music, Many Prince fans don't like RainbowChildren. Prince's look became more 'conservative'. It reflected the music in many ways. It worked. But after that it was 2004-2007/8 non stop suites and more Hit n Run/Covers shows
I can't give the Rule of Reinvention to Prince, even if Madonna wasn't in the picture soley because for too long Prince has not supported the current album therefore the look/style stood alone

Madonna of course! Madonna is till incredibly cultrually musically relivant, because she continues to put out new and exciting music that sounds like nobody else. Prince this last decade, is trying to sound like today's current R&B....which is generic crap. Hell, I gave away AoA and PE to a co-worker, 2 weeks after purchasing them. This shows how much I didn't care for that co-worker.

for too long Prince hasn't even promoted his current album/music,

even now, he has a look (whether u like or not, do you thing it flows with the style?) For some reason I think they both have some kind of flow, but I don't know what Prince is doing right now.
But also the look he has now is very similar to what he started wearing towards the end of the Welcome 2 tours into the beginnings of the 3rd Eye era.

Just because I prefer more outrageous Prince, and tired of the suite era. I'm good with it

But how did the look mesh with the 20Ten album/music? What was the message/direction/vision?

Did the N.P.S. look reflect the music?

Madonna first collaborated with "electronic producer" in 1994 for I'll Remember remix, she liked him and had him produce "Ray of Light", "electronic producer" also returned for 2012's MDNA. So whereas Prince first worked with "electronic producer" (and never again), Madonna established an artistic relationship with "electronic producer" that has elicited hours of amazing, beautiful sound.

At the height of his troubles with Warner Bros. Records in 1994, Prince contributed as "Tora Tora" on the NPG's Exodus album. Happy with this pseudonym, a full album was recorded as Tora Tora, but it remains unreleased. Very little is known about this project, but it was mentioned on the 1995 "Sampler Experience" cassette by the tracks "(Lemme See Your Body) Get Loose!", a remix of "Loose!" from Prince's 1994 Come album.
