i still cant believe a musician of his caliber doesnt have a proper live release.

Are you meaning a live cd? Or a live DVD?

Technically, he has released both. I just wish he would release some from certain periods (PR, LoveSexy, Nude, etc) when he was 'popular.'

His live releases have been shocking. The OPs list aside there are only 2 live albums. "One night alone" which is about as dull a Prince concert as I've ever heard, and "Indigo Nights" Which is slightly better but still surprisingly dull.

The rest are either unavailable or only available pre-owned on out of date media.

SOTT is hands down the best one of the bunch closely followed by "The Undertaker. The Sacrifice of victor is a great show but bogged down by the gospel choir that turns up to slow things down half way through, although I do love that rendition of "In the Mood"

No KISS is terrible, even though I like them for what they are. One thing you can say about them is they always give their fans their money's worth and deliver what they want. Maybe they have to because they have minimal talent but they know who butters their bread. They put their fans first and their live releases have been great IMO.

.

KISSology alone is a huge gift to their fans and a testament to why KISS remains popluar. Prince has NEVER done anything like that and I doubt he ever will. Prince sues his fans. Other bands and musicians are grateful for their support and largely don't act like THEY are doing YOU a favor by showing up on time, granting an interview, promoting material, singing a song or even running a decent website.

just listen to their tours from '74'-76

the live CDs he's released r not up to the standards we all know he's capable of-

the lovesexy long island show would be a good place to start releasing

Jeezus dude you serious? That was a pretty huge event man, can't believe you missed it, it pretty much instantaneously shot to the top of most people's "best bootleg" list.

On the subject of Dortmund, isn't there a bootleg release that has all the extra camera angles not in the video version? I could have sworn I read about that somewhere...

Exactly. KISS from 1974 till 1977 is the best period. If you look at them the present day, it's actually sad to see. The band contains 50% of the original members. Even worse, lead-singer Paul Stanley's voice has taken his toll after 40 years of intensive singing. And still touring. They even announced a European Tour summer 2015. But their KISSOLOGY series is worth having. This is the stuff fans want.

Anyway, Prince, his legacy when it becomes to live material officially available, is a joke. Do you remember Prince saying during the intro of ''17 Days'' performed august 25, 1986 in Paris? ''We'll let you know we have a little secret, recording live here tonight. In other words this is a record''.

Thank God for the boots. His main idea for not releasing more live material, a concert is a moment, and not meant to be heard again in the future. Strange. Why is he still performing ''1999''?

As a huge Elvis Presley fan, a collectors label started back in 1999 and still releasing several cd's a year officially, (but not in stores from SONY) containing soundboards, rehearsals, outtakes, etc.

Prince could make (more) big money to follow this kind of concept.

Which release are you talking about here??

The original VHS release, which I used to have but I gor rid of it when I got rid of my last VCR.

There were 4 versions:

- Original TV broadcast from 88.

- Japanese TV broadcast (airing date unknown to me).

- VHS release from 89.

- LD release (released later).

The original VHS release was originally 2 cassettes, later compiled on one (the release I had purchased) but with no change in content AFAIK. The show was divided in 2 parts with Pt. 1 being in fact the second half of the show and Pt. 2 the first one. Both parts had opening and ending credits, the opening credits being on both shows the beginning beat of Erotic City and the end credits being crowd noises. The first half of Cross The Line had also been edited out. There may have been other differences in angles and minor edits IDK. Overall it's not such a different edit of the show I'll give u that, but given it was the way it was originally released for purchase, I'd love to have it. I'm pretty sure no copy of it have ever been ripped for I've never seen it on CD in the good old days, and I've downloaded every possible version I could find online in both audio and video, and it was also absent from the massive videos collection that was leaked last year sad

.

Though it's not live another frustrating thing is The Undertaker: there are 3 leaked versions, one being the CD as such in audio, the second being the CD + intro and vomit credited to prince in video, and the third being the 95 video release. According to The Vault the film was first made available in December 93 thru mail order, a limited release of 1000 copies, except it seems no one here on the Org has ever seen nor owned this version nor ever found even a mere picture of it, so that leads me to question its very existence (1000 copies is still a lot and the most hardcore fans are here!). However, should it exist, IDK which of the 3 versions was on it exactly.

Asd for audio, there is too much to choose from. But I would prefer shows with different setlists and not just hits. Aftershows really I guess.

.

We'd need both: at least one "regular" concert from a tour, and then some aftershows/one off gigs with exceptional playlists. These I'd actually release on CD etc. and heavily promote, perhaps as part of a "deluxe album" package, perhaps separately because there's still much interest in these legendary tours. Don't release it all at once, just let it trickle out and collaborate with magazines like Mojo etc. to allow for in-depth tour histories.

.

But I'd also make more "mundane" recordings available via a website, like Fugazi for instance.

.

Simply put: finally monetize that past and curate it at the same time. Keeping these recordings in the vault forever is just ridiculous.

*

I agree with all of this, except the "ridiculous" statement. But, since we are in this digital age, I'd like several shows of the same tour available as CDs and DVDs, and then I'd like to see every song of those several shows of the same tour available as .99 cent downloads so that I can compile a single show of each tour by using the best moments from various shows. I've done this already, but, of course, I'd like to be able to do it with top quality video and audio. And, yes, there are some "one-off" shows that stand alone, like the 1986 Birthday Concert, but with all the tours I find that watching or listening to one show from a tour is not fully satisfying because I'm always thinking about moments from another show.

Don't feel too bad - you're not the only one who missed it. I'd never even heard of it as a soundboard recording before these last couple of messages, and hearing it now is almost surreal - it's got that weird, dreamlike feeling to it. I had never even imagined it to exist, and all along it has been floating out there somewhere, just waiting.

It has been a great few weeks to be a listener of this guy, I tell you what.

Need to find this.

They did it to mimic the music video. I had the VHS (purchased) and it was split as well so no I don't think it exists. BTW I wonder does anyone have the original Double Live release of this on 2 cassettes? I wonder if it may, like Lovesexy, have been split with beginning and end credits on both cassettes or it it was the same as the single cassette release, only abruptly cut in 2.
