I am also a Madonna fan. 'Get Into The Groove' was a childhood favourite of mine, as was 'Like A Virgin' and 'Papa Don't Preach.'

I've hated Madonna for most of my life, but have gotten into her recently after the last 2 or 3 albums. I think she took singling lessons.

But to answer the main question...no. I go through periods where I don't do any Prince at all, but there's no one artist that rises up to his level. That said, there are a few individual SONGS out there that surpass his work...but since no one else voted for "Da Bang" on the favorite Prince song thread I fear that may taste may be questioned.
Do tell, Telly. I liked Ray Of Light too, by the way.

Just talking SONGS here, not artists...D'Angelo's "How does it feel" is every bit as good as Prince's best...well, wait a minute...maybe Prince could have screamed on this song, had he recorded it...hold on...

There's other music than Prince? I'm not aware of it, nor am I having any of that! Music has to touch my heart and soul, and Prince's music did that for me way back in 1982. The only other music I listen to is gospel. Those are the only two that I have deemed 'heart and soul' worthy. No other music does it for me. I can't tell an Erika Baydu from a Destiny's Child, I know them, but couldn't name a song by them.

Peace,
Where oh Where Has My Little Prince gone?

First let me admit that I didn't read all replies so someone may have address my point.
"Prefer other artist to Prince?" Well that depends on what I prefer to hear at the moment. When I want to hear "funk" I go for Funkadelic, when I want to hear fusion I go for "Return To For Now", when I want to hear "Hardcore funk I go for "24-7 Spyz", actually it depends on what I am in the mood to hear.

For me there is no one else but Prince. When I want to hear something religious, its Prince (God, Sacrifice of Victor), If I want to hear something slow and sad it's Prince (Empty Room,Purple Rain) if I want to dance my ass off it's Prince(I wanna be your lover). The only thing the man can't do is rap, "Johnnie" is o.k. but he ain't no DMX.

It really depends on the mood I am in.

I love prince like no other but there are

times when I need to hear something different.

Some of the "other" stuff I like to listen to:

Bobby Brown
The Roots
Tupac
Outkast

and lotsa old school stuff like:

Johnny Gill
Troop
Guy
Keith Sweat
He calls me "Holi" cuz he says everyday w/ me is like a Holiday...

Prince will probably always be my favorite... but Tori Amos is up there right with him. I actually took a week off work and went to 6 of her shows on her last tour (the solo tour, not her current band tour) - the most fun, amazing week I've ever had! I'd like to have a chance to do that w/ Prince, too.

Then after Prince and Tori (and The Beatles), there's a 2nd tier of other "favorite" artists that are right behind:

- The Cure
- Bowie
- Radiohead
- Eurythmics
- Pet Shop Boys
- Lucinda Williams
- Kate Bush

I have fond memories of 'West End Girls' and 'Domino Dancing' on TOTP. Also, 'Angel' is a childhood favourite of mine.

So apart from D'Angelo's 'How Does It Feel,' which other artists/songs do you think are comparable, Telly?

This might sound strange, but XTC is right up there in terms of sheer song-writing prowess and creativity. XTC doesn't use a lot of the post-production effects, though, and sometimes I wish they would, but I'll just leave that to apples and oranges (or oranges and lemons?). Almost every XTC album requires a great deal of chewing to fully appreciate, which is probably why they aren't more popular than they are. But this is one of the things that makes them great. When you're done chewing, you find that you have truly swallowed something...er...wonderful...
