I agree with the poster who said that Prince has released stuff from the past that had us scratching our head in disbelief, only to be emulated later. I felt that way about Kiss back in the day. Now look where Kiss is at. Funknroll is all good with me!

Not a fan of this myself, he's tried to appeal to the current "Club" sound too much with the sounds being used, its a shame because the other version is brilliant, but I think if they can get this on the airwaves it will apeal to a younger crowd.

Not exact sounding but cant help but think they have tried to go for this kinda thing

OH my. The G-Man loves it. So much to say about this one. There are elements and sections where I am hearing the perfect blend of classic Prince and "updated firmware" Prince. It gets pretty sublime when those synths and guitar/synth lead hit near the end, especially with the proper Prince scream, at the perfect point. Very Gary Numan-ish at one point, as well.

.

DOPE.

Not a fan of the first half of the mix - but yeah, "sublime" is the word for that final synth/guitar section. Just amazing. Totally agree - a perfect blend of classic and new Prince. Just wish it was longer.

^ the yeezus comparison crossed my mind too... best album of the last 10 yrs by far. he should be listening, i doubt he is though because of the subject matter.

i'm sure this will create all sorts of tears on this forum but kanye is the only artist in the music biz right now that's making music at least 5 yrs ahead of it's time (the entire sound of radio right now is 808's & heartbreak, and that album confused the shit out of people when it came out, now they're all chasing that sound)

he's a futurist in the way prince was back in the day, when he would release an album and have everyone scratching their heads and a year later everyone would be trying to emulate it.

i don't understand all the hatred this tune is getting, it's the most exciting and freshest thing i've heard from p in ages. he sounds inspired!

in fact i'm really liking everything i've heard from art official age. stoked for the release!

Besides his music, the only thing I like about Kanye is that he makes Prince look humble. No one dispute his talent, but his pretension is horrid and a real Sign O The Times, that Me Genius thing is emblematic of our the Selfie era.

Prince never came right out to say he's a genius, he let other people do that.

And yeah, AOA's Funknroll is magnificent.

Hmmm what should i say?

This song is kinda..... interesting.

Dunno if i really like it or not at this point. Surely not a hit at first listen imo.

No matter if u like it or not, this is really something "new" from Prince

peppered with oldschool Prince elements.

Hmm. Sounds like it but I miss the `K`-sound of the m*cker's last syllable.

Thanks, so indeed the 'K'-sound is missing.

I honestly haven't been this disappointed with a new release since New Power Soul. Unless he has a Wasted Kisses hiding on there somewhere, this is a bust, for me.

Once again Prince has proven that his taste and judgement in music is better than mine and that like most of his best stuff it takes an investment in listens to appreciate.

First couple listens, I was completely underwhelmed and a little dissapointed as he was 2 for 2 with me so far on AOE. 4 spins later on the big system and I love it. It is what I would think we want from Prince at this point - something new, complex and different. My only gripe is the lyrics are a little too New Power Soulish but the quality of the music far outweighs that minor peeve.

Very excited about this release.

I've got to say.... I take back my earlier comment, I've just had a listen on a proper system, and must say after the first part is out the way, it sounds pretty awesome. (Only listened on my laptop speakers up till that point) shame on me you need to be able to feel it!

I've done a complete 360 on this.

I love it now.

The firts half reminds me of Koo Koo and the second half The synths are sick and the guitar is great.

This album is really looking good.

Is this the only Version of the song? I'm still wondering if AOA and PE will both contain this track or if this version is taken from AOA and the PE version will be more guitar heavy?
