ugghh!! Prince is killing me!! I don't like any of this new music. AOA if 0 for 4 with me. PE is at least 1 and 1/2 for 3. I like PBL and can deal with FYLU. Don't like whitecaps at all!! I think I will buy PE at this point but will definately pass on AOA. I am starting to really question if I should even stick with Prince. Maybe the PR remaster will be good and save the year for me in the Prince world. At least its been a great year music wise for me so that makes it easier and Sept has 4 other releases that I will be buying so that definately helps make bad Prince records more tolerable as their is other music to replace it. I do hope others like it though but this type of music is just not for me

Let's remember that this is a 3RDEYEGIRL album so I expect Hannah may take lead vocals on a couple of tracks, musically it reminds me a little of Fleetwood Mac. It's growing on me after 3 listens!

OMG!

My new 3EG song doesn't have Prince on lead vocals. PLEC should come with an advisory sticker: "WARNING -- 3EG is an actual band. While every effort has been made to hide the singer's microphone during sessions, sometimes the girls wrestled it away from Prince and refused to give it back, holding it really high. Listener discretion is advised."

Nice vibe. But the voice ruins it for me.

I agree. The vocals sound strained for such an easy-breezy song, or like the tone of her voice doesn't mesh with the mood of the music. Anyways, I preordered the album so I'll stay optimistic--hopefully my opinion will change! lol

Not a bad one. Hannah has a pretty enough voice and Princey chipped in a little there. Hopefully the other tracks with her are as decent. Looking forward to this release almost as much as the other one doh!.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Not a great lover of this track

I was expecting something heavier from 3EG with the Prince album being more RnB (which it seems to be)

The music for Whitecaps sounds good. Hannah's voice overwhelms Prince's on the chorus or whatever. The song is also too damn short. It's not a full length song to me. There should have been a guitar solo at the end.

Has anybody confirmed, if this is an original song? After that U Know debacle, I'm starting to wonder about Prince's musicianship.

I guess it's probably true that Prince is not on lead vocals anymore for TICTACTOE either then?

A great shame. I'd like to pretend this won't diminish my enjoyment of the album but it definitely will, and I love all the recent stuff.

I'm pretty sure these songs never had Prince on vocals. The Mojo interviewer must have been asked by Prince not to mention that Hannah is on vocals on half the album...

I like it. Just curious, but since as I was listening I could hear it with them instead--what if it were Wendy and Lisa singing this? And can anyone really say it's that different from 80's W&L?

.

I'm not asking if some will say it's different--obviously someone can and will say it--but people say untrue things on here everyday. For me, sounds like 'em. In a good way.

Well Madonna was on Love Song with Prince and she is the worst singer of all time ever.

.....just listened to this before reading anyone elses comments and the first point of comparison for me was Wendy & Lisa's first album...it's got that Stay / Song About vibe for me. (Not a bad thing).

On first listen, it's OK....certainly wouldn't swich channels if it came on the radio. Comes alive for me when Prince's backing vocals kick in (and that's not meant as a backwards criticism of Hannah's vocals!).

reissue of Jimi Hendrix's Crash Landing and Rainbow Bridge

Bob Dylan's Complete Basement Tapes in the Bootleg Series

I'll probably try to make an 80 minute cd with the best of all the material since RNR Love Affair. I thought 2 Young 2 Dare was probably better than some of these tracks, but I'm sure I can make one 80 min decent cd between the 2 new albums and other tracks like Ain't Gonna Miss U, etc.

Cannot understand the hating on this track at all, and seriously since when has Prince not allowed his band to express themselves in the studio... Only thing wrong with this track is it isn't long enough! Hannah does it justice, brilliant.... Can't wait for this album to drop.

Interesting... I picked up on the same W&L vibe on my first listen. Had to listen a couple more times to figure it out. I think it's when Hannah sings "it's windy now...". That's when I really hear it in the harmonizing. Kind of reminds me of "Splash", the part when W&L sing: "You could devour me and I'd only want you more..."
.

Seriously pretty song. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. So mellow and relaxing... Like most others here I'd of course prefer to hear Prince singing lead, but Hannah's voice sounds nice on it. A lot of the songs on the first two NPG albums didn't have Prince singing on them, so it shouldn't be unexpected that he'd pass off lead to Hannah on cuts off the first 3EG album.

.

His singing seems really unusual here: a noticeable break from his pattern. His background vocals are usually so distinctive--in music generally, but also within the perameters of the song itself. On "Whitecaps" he makes his voice blend seamlessly into Hannah's while keeping her vocals dominant. A curious choice to make musically. (Good for him letting the band enjoy the spotlight on this effort.) I'm hearing what KCoolmusiq picked up on: P's backing vox adds an R&B 'Quiet Storm' effect and it's a nice touch.

I like this song. It's much better than the AOA stuff. Hannah's voice is pleasant, and I'm interested what she sounds like on Aintturinround (described by someone on the org as the heaviest song Prince has ever done) but like most I would have liked Prince on lead and Hannah backing. Isn't this the song that was influenced by the Cocteau Twins? And yeah, I hear the Wendy & Lisa vibe too.

.

Once again, bring on Plectrumelectrum!

Unfortunately, they're not re-editing anything by Enrico Caruso or Robert Johnson.
