USB to protect sound quality? Nonsense! Throwing the files up in .wav or .flac on the 3rdeyegirl site would also protect the sound quality, and be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Something is not right here.

yes it seems a bit strange even though I like when Prince tries new ways to get his music out. Its possible Prince just tryin to get us interested in the prodject again by throwing out new idea how to release PE and having a few listening parties to show that the project isn't dead yet. But that doesn't mean he actually will release it on usb or release it at all.

In 2009 Lady Gaga released the limited edition The Fame USB stick, which contained mp3s , several music videos and a media gallery.

I'm doubtful as to whether Prince is serious about exploring different album formats. I'll accept whatever he decides, just put it out already. razz

Would anyone here be surprised if that USB had BOTH Plectrum Electrum AND the re-release of Purple Rain? We have 2 CD's here. One that HAS to come out this year for a proper 30th anniversary edition and one that's already months past the expected release date. Especially since he's already dabbled in a 3rd Eye Girl revision of Let's Go Crazy and Electric Intercourse (the missing Purple Rain track).

It would almost make sense to release them together to get old fans into the new music. And also serve the hardcire fans as an extra bonus. Thoughts? eek

I can't see that happening. I have no idea when, how or even if PE is ever going to come out, but Purple Rain will be a WB release and they are not going to mess with it...

PE and PR wont happen on the same release, 3rd Eye Girl are nothing to do with Warner Brothers, it's quite clear they are not interested in it otherwise Prince woudlnt be doing listening parties to try and raise its profile. Warner have PR and his new Solo album thats all they want. sad

Ha!

The ROKU device attaches to your TV and to your audio. You can get hundreds of free channels for a ROKU. It is also wireless, so you can stream stuff from your PC to the ROKU. I chose PLEX, which a server application that is installed on my PC... this manages all of my audio and video files. The ROKU has a PLEX channel (which is an app written for ROKU). I go to that channel, and see all of my audio and video files, and play whatever.

I also use the ROKU for movies, TV, etc. Mostly for Netflix.

So basically it's just a wireless audio video transmission from a device to another, instead of audio and video jacks/cables? I mean it's cool not to have cables running all around the house between comp, hi-fi and TV, just didn't know it was called a ROKU (why shout by the way? can't we say a roku?).

Why does one need to manage their files? I mean I manage mine quite well myself lol

Sorry, missa confused.

This would be a silly idea, the costs involved are pointless. Why not just distribute the digital content online rather than on a USB (lossless FLAC if he doesnt want to degrade the sound)?

.

A lot of people are saying that 3EG is a seperate entity to Prince who signed with WB. But any artist needs their label's permission to appear on someone elses album, and I suspect WB are reluctant to allow Prince to release the PE album whislt they are planning a new solo album and the PR remaster. So Prince is trying his hardest to find other avenues that will allow the release (USB, really?). At the end of the day, we will end up with either no album at all, or something like Exodus where Prince leaves the centre stage for others and appears as someone else (Tora Tora) in the background.

.

3EG, however it may be released, if at all, will probably be mainly the 3 girls with cameo Prince appearing courtesy of WB. And personally, I am not very interested in that.

.

The next big Prince release will be the WB solo album and there wont be a USB in sight (unless of course, P and WB fall out prior to ANY release... which is highly prossible and may have happened already).

You'll have to excuse my ignorance but how does a lossless USB and a cd differ? CD's are lossless aren't they?

Yes, they are both lossless, but CD quality is 16bit/44.1kHz, whereas a WAV file can be 24bit/44.1 or 48 or 96 or 192kHz.

.

The difference between 16bit and 24bit is noticeable, especially with any acoustic instruments, voice, etc. Drums are an acoustic instrument, by the way.

I suppose it's only noticeable if you have a home studio set up aswell which most people don't so there's no real point to it

Exactly that 90% of people wont know the different, or maybe not even care. Plus it also depends on how its mastered, Prince records are not mastered great, even the recent(ish) ones, sound is only as good as the mastering then the setup its played on.

Warner Bros aren't retards. It will be released on CDs and mp4 download. In fact, it's definitely gonna be on a compac disc, for they can include the dvd (or blu ray) and pretty pictures, and booklet. A 30th Remaster of one of the top albums of all time is a very big deal. I'm confident Warner Bros will treat it like that. (I'm confident because of Warner's involvment, instead of Prince's).

Of course...the only thing that can derail this entire project is Prince...but I'm sure, you already know that.

I'll say what has been said about a hundred times on the Org already. Releasing a lossless, high-definition version of a lackluster album is NO better than releasing it on MP3/AAC.

.

I would rather have my 128kbps MP3s of The Work than PlectrumElectrum in lossless HD.

.

Or, bring it closer to home with another recent argument: the mastering of The Breakdown. It is horrendous . . . you might almost think Prince did it on purpose to release it again in lossless and blame iTunes for making the first version sound horrible. But, the "masses" are not clamoring for new Prince music, so it probably went unnoticed.
