No mention of PlectrumElectrum EVER being released NOR shelved, that's weird sad

.

As 4 prince taking Joshua Welton as a producer, I saw it coming. I can't say I'm very comfortable with the idea considering the "quality" of Welton's solo work: https://www.youtube.com/w...lsigjUplU.

.

Welton is doing exactly the horrible prefabricated radio-friendly music that I despise. I assume that he was trying to qualify for labels and show them he had it in him to do this kind of stuff with this song but I'm not sure I want him anywhere around prince's music. I'm not too fond of his work on FallInLove2Nite and I wasn't very much convinced by the remixes he made that were aired on 3rdEyeTV either.

.

I guess prince saw in him exactly what many people have been wishing him 2 do here 4 a long time: find a younger producer that can make him sound "young" and radio-friendly again. The difference between Welton and Pharrell or André 3000 being that Welton isn't famous so he sure won't step on prince's toes.

.

Well, I guess we'll c huh... Contrarly to most people I enjoyed what Kirk Johnson brought to prince's music so maybe this Joshua fellow will surprise me in the end, but y'all better b ready 4 a new "plastic" era in prince's music lol

.

I just wish PlectrumElectrum is released one day, I'm so tired of prince teasing us with projects that never c the light of day sad I guess that's the difference between the internet and b4 the internet: prince toyed with and gave up just as many concepts in the 80's and early 90's but we never knew about it. Ever since he's had a website he announces album ideas the minute he has them. Nothing has changed, just that now we know about the shelved projects and get frustrated sad

What stood out for me is that Bream was not exactly raving about the album. He was generally positive but far from saying that the new album is great. Not a good sign.

"After hearing me praise his new recording, Prince asked if I had any money in my pocket and would I spend it on his new album."

I think that sounds generally pretty positive.

This doesn't bode well.

I hope Prince isn't going to go through another 1990 or 1999 phase of feeling he needs to be contemporary.

It sounds like the build up to Rave. "Modern" sound, guest producers and the desire for a label to do all the work. As soon as the first single flops, he'll turn on the label.

Will Plectrum Electrum be his new Black Album?

Stupid that he's parked it. It was really shaping up to be something interesting. There is no reason whatsoever for it not to be released. It was up to him, and any deal he decided to sign. I guess he secretly wants to chase commercial success again.

I'm excited for these songs smile

Obviously I would like for PlecElec to get released too, but I definitely want more contemporary electro pop from Prince.

And you know the first thing that struck me about this story...not, wow there may finally be new music on the way but how much of an absolute dick Prince really is!! Why should somebody from WB be available in the dead of night...he recorded the music didn't he, it'll still be there in the morning. Also he didn't have the decency to show his face for the guy that DID come. Why wod somebody be on standby to listen to an album that may or may not get released? NEWSFLASH - WB have done just fine without him whereas his career has somewhat slumped without thier guidance. The music world has moved on since his last hit in the 90's hence he's doing Madonna and matching on to the new life (LaHavas,Mvula,Ora)- if he doesn't like it maybe he shouldn't have backtracked. You can't have it both ways...is he a significant artist in today's music world - NO, he's a walking talking greatest hits back catalogue which the wider world think has retired or died a few years back -Just concentrate on releasing the old music from when people gave a shit and don't worry that people don't take your calls

where does it say that he wanted them in the dead of night..And if you think WB has done well , you are delusional

"Bream talks about the phone call he got to be at Paisley Park around midnight to listen to the new record and how he is now on Prince time. Warner Bros executives unfortunately are not on Prince time"

"After 1 A.M., Bream was escorted into studio B at Paisley "

Maybe they've not got enough staff for every artist on the books to have a WB rep (especially a high up one) sat by the phone should that artist decide to call.

Hell me too but not necessarly by Josh Welton lol

+ there was a time when releasing 5 albums a year wasn't such a big deal for prince so IDK why an album should prevent the other from being released wink

Hmmm, can someone play prince Jack Whites - 'Lazeretto' aside from being a KILLER TUNE! he recorded & released it in no time.

Prince has 2 simple choices:

1] work with Warners and take all that goes with it i.e. a professional job/backing etc with half decent sales OR

2] STFU, stay independent & release the record via 3EG or a newspaper deal again.

it really is THAT simple! There are countless artists that release songs/album sin no time at all.

Frankly I'm not arsed either way, love him live, saw him 5 time sthis year etc BUT his records do very, very little for me. Now if 3EG Plectrum Electrum was to be a live album then that would be different.

Sweet jebus, what a whine fest. The usual same ole, same ole, and of course not a single cruitical remark from the reporter.

He didn’t mention the album’s title or release date, but he did discuss the difficulties of getting a hold of top executives at Warner Music Group, with which he signed a new deal this spring. Then he whined about how slowly wheels turn in the record business. “Every No. 1 song, every Top 10 song, every song in the Top 40 is at least six months old,” he said. “We should be able to make music and put it out now.”

... says man who still hasn't managed to release the album he recorded with 3EG at least six months ago.

Booom !, can someone post Barts last quote onto 3EGs twitter account - hopefully P might see it. Well said BVH!..wished Bream had the balls to say that too!

Prince continues to say one thing and do another.

Post the album directly on his website or a website.... $8 download boom done

Next idea, next album.

Enough, he had no contract and did not live up to the 5 albums per year he complained WB held him back. Remember emancipation... free and all the sh*t he said then.

Now he is back with WB and he can't get them on the phone again?

That's bad business on his end. Someone of his stature should have a direct line to the head of the label.

For me Prince has always had "yes" people around him. Someone needs to tell him to get moving otherwise his legacy will be lost on younger fans who don't care or very likely don't know who he is.

He is so fng talented but so stuck in a system that does not challenge him.

Music is the best...

It's not the 1980's anymore, Prince doesnt have the power where labels are concerned these days because he wouldn't sell as much as other artists, first time round with Warner he was their Chicken laying golden eggs, this time not so much, they hold all the cards because he Wants his masters.

He already got the masters, and it doesn't sound contigent on him releasing any new material with WB. Getting back in the Prince business is like putting out a Woody Allen movie, you don't do it to make money, you do it for the cache of the relationship, and the overall perceived value of the companies catalog to it's shareholders. You know it will generate interest, and generate sales to the back catalog. They're probably scared of having too much interaction with him and things going south before they even have a chance to get the PR reissue out.

You really think they just handed over all the Masters at once? Knowing Prince being Prince could at any time try get one over on them? Prince needed them masters alot more than WB needed Prince. smile

Isn't it this simple? Open up a website and sell the download of the entire CD for $10.

That's an easy million for you every time. That's assuming there is a core fan base of 100,000.

Looking for radioplay or record sales is a pipe dream at this point. Now, it's about releasing the music.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Prince is talkin bullshit as usual, of course he can get in touch with them. Something tells me that hes not so happy with the deal and now hes bitter cuz he can't get the album out fast enough, yet he couldn't manage to release PE (cuz he was waiting for the perfect timing blah blah) even though he had the kobalt deal.
