1 Purple Rain (Defined my youth)

2. Sign "O" The Times (His masterpiece)

3. Controversy (Old school brilliance and the title track is one of his best... ever)

4. Madhouse 8 (I really do consider this a Prince album in the truest sense and was the foot in the door for me to get into jazz)

5. Lovesexy (completely absorbing)

6. Around The World In A Day ( I remember this was a disappointment when released (directly after Purple Rain) but it has had some of the longest legs (as they say) as far as listenability over the years. Every time I put this on I find new things to appreciate in it (that I hadn't noticed before).

7. Diamonds & Pearls (was huge here in Australia and lead to him touring here so I have very fond memories of this album)

8. Dirty Mind (really solid)

9. Gold Experience (one of his last "enthusiastic" albums)

10. 20Ten (I consider this the album where he started getting back on track after some very mediocre albums)

Incidentally the LP's (vinyl) available for all of the above titles still sound brilliant. They sh!t all over the CD's. They hardly need to be remastered

First it must be noted that we've had only 54 voters, which is quite low but nonetheless, given the people we have here, must be quite representative of the hardcore fanbase Prince has worldwide's tastes. The list shows few changes since last year, the only significant change being that TRC made its way out of the Top 10, replaced by TBA.

Surprisingly, For You didn't make its way at all into the votes!

When counting by points, unsurprisingly the Top 10 countains only 80's albums, with the notable exception of TGE, which shows how much of a favorite this album is! It's still surprising to see how popular DM and Controversy are, as one could think that Prince's "golden age" really starts with 1999. The popularity of TBA, which was not a "mainstream" album and wasn't properly released before 1994, is also surprising.

The 10/20 positions are more diversified with one 80's album left, six 90's albums (including, to my biggest surprise, C&D which seems to become more and more appreciated with time) and no less than four 2000's albums (once again to my surprise, this includes ONA which seems to have become a cult classic of sorts).

.

Of note is the fact that side projects only make a humble entrance in the 30/50 positions. Prince is also there, incredibly behind all the other "classic" era albums save For You which, as noted above, isn't there at all.

I felt it was also interesting to classify the votes by the number of voters because it shows how many voters would put any given album in their top 10 and that shows a few different things. There we have many more ex aequos for one thing and that leaves more room in the Top 10.

.

The Top 10 is quite similar to the classment by points but allows a few other albums to find their way into it: , Come and Lotusflow3r are here shown to be huge fan favorites, allowing now three 90's albums and even one 2000's album to be Top 10! It shows that and Come aren't so far behind TGE in terms of 90's popularity and that Prince managed to accomplish something quite remarkable with Lotusflow3r, his only post 1995 album to be in a Top 10 here!

TRC and Batman are the only other 2 albums, #11 and #12 respectively, to have had more than 10 people including them in their lists, making TRC another 2000's favorite (it was in the Top 10 in last year's poll, which is quite significant!). The rest of the list has a much more marginal number of voters.

If this was any indication for Prince and WB to organize their remastering program, it shows that while the 1980-1988 era is by far a fan's favorite, several later albums are more popular among the fanbase than one could think: Batman, , Come, TGE, TRC and Lotusflow3r have a strong following.

Nonetheless it is to be noted that only SOTT, PR, Parade, 1999 and Lovesexy have more than 200 points while the same 5 albums + DM, Controversy, ATWIAD and TGE are the only albums to have had more than 25 voters. By all means, SOTT? PR, Parade, 1999 and Lovesexy remain the unchallenged fan favorites, making the top 5 both this year and last year!
