The interesting part is why the mods haven't locked this thread already.

Maybe it is true after all. eek

They might as well leave it open. What else is there to talk about? It's been tumbleweeds up in this motherfucker for 2 years.

This seemed sort of obvious after Prince dropped those solo tracks at the Dakota that he already had an album ready to go. That combined with the guitar/outfit artwork that appeared to be an album cover as well. It also seemed highly unlikely that his first proper album release in years would be as a guest on a protege album. I was thinking another Lotus-type package, but maybe not.

I hope so as I can't be arsed collecting random bits n bobs. An album will give me a more rounded appreciation of his work. And if I hate it then I can launch them in the bin.

Good detective work, Schlomo. I hadn't pieced it together back then, but you're right, it does seem obvious to me now, in retrospect. I just had this sinking feeling that there would be yet another year WITHOUT a fully-fledged PRINCE album. So I, for one, am breathing a sigh of relief.

What is the guitar/outfit artwork that appeared to be an album cover?

I assumed 3rd Eye Girl was more a Prince & The Revolution/ New Power Generation type thing.

Ah, yes, thanks Schlomo. Am I misremebering things, but did this image also feature somewhere in the Screwdriver video? I seem to recall seeing it on some video work somewhere, but I can't quite place it. It seems to recall the Gold era in some senses, a la the Endorphinmachine stage set up colour scheme and feeling, and perhaps also some visuals from the Undertaker.

So, if we are going to speculate, which of the songs released this year will make it to the albums?
I guess the funk album will include Breakfast can Wait; I wouldn't mind a different version of Boyfriend (as I seem to remember the one we got was one of many versions), although my issue with that song is the lyrics, and I think a 3 minutes version of Ain't Gonna Miss U would stop it being so derivative. My wish list includes U will B, but I can't see it happening... I guess Big City and 2 Young 2 Dare might go here as well...
The rock album would include Fixurlifeup, Screwdriver, The Breakdown and maybe Check the Record? Hopefully LOL will be left out.
Extra loveable has really grown on me, but I hope he leaves it out and releases other versions on the website. And I really like Groovy Potential, but I think it's been confirmed it's an outtake.
Any other thoughts?

Maybe Rock and Roll Love Affair on the rock album?

Hopefully not... It's the one song I really can't stand, in any of its versions! But maybe a new (!) guitar-heavy version would work...

I can't see him having both a custom guitar and outfit made with the exact same artwork for no reason at all. Even if he's changed his mind since, I firmly believe it was/is an album cover.

As far as what's on the albums, I guess only he knows. If he's had 3EG lay down new parts on The Breakdown, then maybe it's on the 3EG album now. I would've placed it on the solo record before that info was passed on.

I was hearing some common production threads between a few tracks earlier this year:

  1. Same Page, Different Book
  2. RnR Love Affair (regular as well as Remix 7)
  3. Ain't Gonna Miss U When Ur Gone
  4. Boyfriend
  5. Breakfast Can Wait
  6. 2Y2D

I'm curious to see which ones end up together or if they even get realeased.

Schlomo, my guess is The Breakdown will be featured on the new PRINCE album; it's simply that he favoured 3rdEyeGirl to perform some/all of the instumentation. I imagine it may not be the only track featuring the girls on instruments on his own album. Unlike a 3EG album where the 4-unit band is solely utilised, I also imagine he uses other musicians such as the NPG, the trio of backing singers (Shelby et al) and the 11-piece horn section throughout his own album. It's probably not as strict a division of labour as either we, or he, first conceptually envisaged.

I would personally LOVE it if either the PRINCE AND/OR 3EG ALBUM featured some of the songs they've been playing on their live shows of late which don't currently have a home on an album, such as CAUSE AND EFFECT and CHECK THE RECORD and, dare I say it, MOONBEAM LEVELS. Okay, I am joking about that last track but, then again, he did re-record IN A LARGE ROOM WITH NO LIGHT and EXTRALOVEABLE in recent years, which no one ever thought he would, so it wouldn't be completely out of the question.

Don't know Check the Record nor In a large room with no light.

I really like cause and effect and Moonbeam levels.

Extraloveable doesn't work for me.

And I would love to hear instrumental songs.

I'm also a sucker for piano ballads or the beautiful "girl thang"

I'm excited and looking forward to the albums.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

i have a bit of a feeling that "2YD2" will be on both albums.

we got that snippet from the dakota listening sessions, and

then he performed a rock version with 3rdEyeGirl live. it'd

tie both releases together somehow.

kind of like radiohead had 2 versions of Morning Bell when

they released Kid A / Amnesiac.

.

although the same could also apply to "the breakdown", as

we know 3rdEyeGirl was recording parts for it long after he

premiered it at the dakota listening party.

.

rock n roll love affair is a bit too old by now to be on a new

album, imo. extraloveable remake, i can't see on there, it's

already been released in 2011 before this 2nd remake.

.

wouldn't mind 'same page, different book'. perhaps he did

not release it in good quality yet because he's keeping it for

release on an album? as an album track i think it's a really

great song.

.

i really wouldn't mind "Ain't Gonna Miss U" being on a new

album, but as always, i'm greedy so i wouldn't mind if they

left it off since we have it anyways

lol

having said all of that, i don't really believe this 'news' yet.

things always change at the drop of a hat in prince world so

even if someone leaked this news it might already be 'old'

news in prince's world.

.

perhaps the biggest clues as to what we can expect will be

dropping as soon as the live streams pick back up again.

He didn't confirm anything..

he said they discussed in the past that 2 abums coming out would make sense.. one rock album with 3rdeyegirl and another soul/funk with Npg.. and that if he gets something he will let us know..
