Am I the only person in the world who doesn't enjoy Janelle Monae? To me she is the girl who has an annoying song that plays in every other commercial on TV. Listened to her album and couldn't even get thru it, just kept thinking of those awful car and make-up commercials. Her songs just don't interest me at all and with repeated listens they become annoying... Am I alone here? Seems like a universal lovefest for this girl everywhere. I don't get it.

babynoz,
Thanks for keeping this is a somewhat reasonable conversation. Definitely agree with you that commenting on one song doesn't mean somebody is saying prince has no pull and love in the black community. Everywhere I've lived in the U.S. lots of black folks love Prince's music. There is no doubt about that. It's to the level that among many black folks you have to apologize for not liking Prince.

purple1968,
I appreciate your passion, and I agree that the thread got slight derailed. But your level of over reaction and hyperbole was really off the chart. Please get a grip. Show me where we said Prince doesn't have pull or love in the black community. And you almost had me with Housequake hitting # 11 on the billboard black chart. I was about to thank you for educating me, until I looked it up and saw that U Got the Look hit # 11. Housequake was along for the ride as the b-side. But keep the passion/craziness/love/anger coming. You help make it entertaining around here.

And about the article/interview ... glad to see that Prince believes the Internet is alive again. It means we get more music, which is what most of us want.

- Someone let their child get on the Internet. Reply 42 and 46. Housequake/U Got The Look was double single both sides were sent to radio and both sides reached #11 per billboard. Back then double singles counted on both charts.

You sho' are stank. Wow. Reply 42 & 46? Hmm. Reply 46 is about the music industry and doesn't even reference the black community at all. Reply 42 is just talking about Housequake and black radio, not Prince and the black community.

Let's try this again. As I said, Prince gets lots of love in the black community. Housequake was not a hit on the radio where I lived. Adore was the hit among black folks that year. It still is to this day. Was Housequake a hit in the clubs where I lived? Maybe. Was it a hit on the radio where you lived? Apparently it was.

Btw, the POINT of my original post was that there are plenty of Prince songs after Housequake that were hits in the black community. I was with you on that general point.

Who's the child?
