It all sounds very flat, that spark is gone where you just waited to hear a passage in a song that's unlike any other. It's like he's a cover artist now. The only difference is he's actually covering his own material and not very well I might add.

Great track.

There was some discussion about what might be on a potential new album... Veering off topic a little, I noticed that no one mentioned "U Will B With Me" (I think).

Just wanted to mention that I really hope that track is properly recorded and released, it might be one of my favorites of the new batch from the past couple years.

That would be awesome

Am I the only person that would like a studio version of that live intro Welcome 2 America, The sub bass was so loud

aaahhh the studio version of Welcome 2 America...no, you're not alone!

I haven't heard that. I've heard an acoustic studio demo version of U will B on Andy Allo's FB page a while back.

right, it was Nov. of '91. I think we jammed in the sound stage on the 5 horn arrangements of the Madhouse stuff I did, then if I'm not mistaken we started working on Sexy MF, and immediately went into the studio and recorded. It was like a 12 hour day, with only one short break to move from the sound stage to the studio. It was quite a rush!! I still remember the head spinning buzz I had after that first day. (thanks, I didn't take any offense to your critique.)

Wow thanks for sharing this! It's crazy, do you know that we actually do have this rehearsal, that it's been circulating for 20 years?

I'd always been wondering about this recording, like was there ever a plan for it to be played on stage, like an opening act for the D&P tour maybe, or what? Then someone once said here that it was just some kind of homework Prince gave you just to test the horn section before signing you in, that it wasn't to ever be used. It would be wonderful if you could finally reveal the truth behind the mysterious 91 Madhouse recordings biggrin biggrin biggrin

okay, I’ll take a shot at solving the Madhouse ‘91 mystery.

I think I’ve heard the recording you are talking about and I doubt it’s from the rehearsal that I was referring to, since it would have included Prince, and they were extended versions as he checked out everyone’s soloing ability. I believe the recording you are talking about is from rehearsals with the NPG prior to our initial session with P. It’s my understanding that the Madhouse with full horn section concept was intended to be a possible warmup act for the D&P tour, and a vehicle to feature Michael B. We did 2 rehearsals prior to our first meeting with P, and these were recorded and sent to him. (I think he may have been in Paris working on the Symbol album at the time). I’m pretty sure this is the recording that is circulating. So, yes it was essentially a tryout. (We also went to a Carmen Electra band rehearsal to get video taped) We never played them after that day that I can recall, which is unfortunate. I suspect that was because Carmen became the warmup act. Hope that clears it up.

Appearently we ain't gonna miss her when she's gone lol

The son's a great addition to an already great list of new Prince tracks popping up this year cool

I will and in the meantime I do miss her rap ^^ But since I still have the old version it's fine, 3 versions are better than 1 biggrin

This is ECACTLY what i think about when i see someone pitch a fit when Prince re-records a song like Extralovable . They get all pissy that hebtampered with a classic. Whatever...u still got the origina? ...yeah? ¿Que es el problemo?

I was discussing with someone how "I Wonder" sounds incomplete and before it saw an official release, it could use a simple solo of some sort in that dead part with the yelps/shouts. And maybe another instrument of some kind to help flesh it out a little. It didnt sound ike a demo, it sounded unfinished, like he didnt get around to finish what he had intended to finish....ran outta time or summin."oh no! Don't touch it...he'll ruin it!" I tried to say they'll still have the old version, but from what I recall, they couldn't get past tampering with a classic.

Agreed

The other thing about Classic outtakes is even if it had been released at the time you have no idea if the version that happened to leak would not have been worked on a bit more for release.

Telling Prince not to tamper with classic outtakes or demos is like photocopying an artists sketch book (probably a photocopy of a photocopy of a photocopy in some cases) and then telling the artist they can't make a painting from that sketch.

Sure you've grown affection for the sketch but remember you will still have your copied sketch and it's a sketch the artist didn't even want you to see anyway.

In short I love the new version, I love the old version - They are different but there is room in my affections for both

This is right on. A demo is a scketch scribbled down on paper so the artist can get an idea out. Then maybe at some time is fleshed out in to an actual song. We are extremely lucky to have recordings of demos and although we may like the scketch better then the end result, in the end it's his song not ours and we always have the version we prefer to listen to. Do I wish I could have better quality copies of the demos I love? Well, of course, but in the end I am extemely thankful that we have all of the unreleased material to listen to in the first place.

I don't have any suggestions for this instance, but for future reference: After you've completed your order and you're re-directed to 3rdEyeGirl from PayPal, make sure you scroll down to the order details section. There's a link to download your file just beneath the title of each item you've ordered.

OK I will remember this, good tip!

You don't need an account to purchase a track or to wait for a confirmmed email. Once you successfully purchase the track through Paypal, after a few seconds, the screen returns to the 3rdeyegirl page. Scroll down, to 'Order Details' on page. Directly under that, you will see 'Product' and below that, is the (Title of puchased track). Below title of purchased song, in a very, small font, is a clickable link titled 'Download file' . <--Click on that link and download song.

Example:

Order Details

Product

(Title of purchased song)

'Download file'(<--click link to download)

I like it! Prince "Extralovable" with horns = Funky! I like the added vocals and horns and I also like the older versions! nuff said.

07, 03 = Both songs were funky. if album unveiled lil by lil, wonder is "2Y2D" and "the Breakdown" will be included?? Also speculate if this is a Funky album, maybe just maybe another version of "Boyfriend" - I remember Funken saying Prince did I think 4 versions of that trax and just wait until we hear what he finally recorded, something like that.

I do find it odd that the 3rdeyegirl site was quiet when Prince was touring. It's like they closed up Paisley and locked out the webmaster!! LOL! Hopefully, now they are embracing web we get more updates when they tour but ya never know. When they tour again hope that 3rdEYeGirl site doesn't dry up.

Couple good weeks. Fun year and hopefully we get the 3rdEyeGirl album soon as well.

I think below would be basis of a decent album:

Same Page Different Book

Breakfast Can Wait

Extraloveable Reload

RNR Remix 7

Screwdriver Remix

Down

Aint Gonna Miss U

2 Young 2 Dare

.

I dont really care much for That Girl Thang, Boyfriend or the 3rd Eye Girl songs 'FixUrLifeUp' and 'LOL'

I think Same Page, Boyfriend and Breakfast fit alongside Xtraloveable and Ain't Gonna Miss U. We'd get an album in the spirit of The Chocolate Invasion and The Slaughterhouse which is just fine by me. R&R Remix is too much a remix to fit IMHO, it would sound weird, and the original is too pop/rock to get alongside the rest (unless we talking about a "multigenre" album à la Rave/Musicology). Screwdriver to me is definitely a 3rdEyeGirl song: I'm gonna make a fuss if it's not on Plectrum Electrum lol lol

I don't know Down & 2 Young, there are new songs played live I suppose?

As for That Girl Thang and U Will B With Me, they're kind of in their own lo-fi world. Someone here mentioned that they'd like a studio version of U Will Be. I'm all for it but I kinda dig the lo-fi sound of the one we have, it's very spontaneous cool

Now let's not forget that IF we are talking about a new album released track by track

3 possibilities, in the end:

1) We are a bunch of idiots, this is indeed just a CD burned by prince for Rashida or whoever and the lazy suckers who work for him have forgotten to adjust the file titles to the fact that they're to be released on a download store.

2) Prince is playing games with us, there is no proper album coming save Plectrum Electrum and he's just teasing us and having fun reading us speculate about an album that doesn't exist (or does but won't be released).

3) There is a plan for an album and we'll get it track by track à la C-Note, with a possible full release later. In that case we already have tracks 3 and 7 and NONE of the other songs mentioned above have been released with a track number, so they're unlikely to be on it if Prince plays the track by track game to the end but they MAY be on it if the whole thing surfaces as a whole at some point.

Whatever happens, the good news is that 3rdEyeGirl.com has been reactivated and that therefore we'll probably get some more in the weeks to come biggrin biggrin biggrin

yeahthat Excellent assessment. nod

No. Leave it as is. The stark demo vibe makes it so much more real and immediate. If he starts tinkering with it he could suck all the soul out of it.

I didn't think either of us were having a discussion about whether or not it's okay to tamper with a classic, but rather, simply disagreeing and having different reactions to the track as it is.

Of course we would still have the original version, that goes without saying. I just happen to think that particular song is done as is, that's all.

Just sayin...

Wow! Thanks a lot for clearing this biggrin You are correct about which tape is circulating, the one we got is without Prince and the tracks aren't particularly long.

It's indeed a pity this Madhouse set was never used, that rehearsal we have is such a pearl that it'd deserve to be released as such with a pristine sound quality IMO.

Again...ure saying leave it alone....its already left alone...make the changes and we can both be happy...why fight finishing the song, cuz when its finished...both will exist.

I remember the footage of the horns being recorded that was on YouTube for a short time (however I'm sure there are people that saved that video..)

I've only listened to the snippet of this and it sounds like different vocals. These sound bland, lazy. Like there's no 'drive' or 'life' there. I'm comparing these vocals to what we heard in the '11 version.

Anyone hear that?

the video you're referring to I'm sure it was not the Hornheadz, but the 11-piece band Prince brought on tour, and they were rehearsing that part because the song was to be on the setlist...

But, I'm NOT saying leave it alone because it will ruin my experience with the existing version. I'm not fighting "finishing" the song.

Rather, I am disagreeing with your opinion that the song isn't finished already. I'm saying that I Wonder is already finished as is. It's fine that you disagree with that.

I would not get my panties in a bunch if he did "finish" it. As you say, I'd still have the other version. It would simply be a mistake as the existing version is already finished. In. My. Opinion.

Get it?

cool
