According to the interview he met Julia last year during the L.A. tour, but it turns out she was already working for him at age 20.

She's mentioned in the staff section of the Welcome 2 Canada tourbook (2011) :

Julia Ramadan : Assistant & Teleprompter

Prince said:

“They are like my kids,” he said. “And I’m learning from them. Young people have the new ideas.”

Is this Prince sort of admitting he has run out of fresh ideas, and needs a lifeline from younger bandmembers of whom he can 'steal' new ideas/riffs and use them as the base of his own new songs, just like he often did back in the 80's (before he dumped The Revolution)?

Put down your glass of haterade. He is moving on with new people as this is not 1984. He just got off a tour that received steller reviews and you want him to hook up the Revolution who if they had come up with all of the music back then maybe they would be doing something in the music industry now.

Who is still touring and putting out new music Prince. You have to put up or shut up.

my dear org friend..

i was merley being ironic..after being on this site for 11 years i was merely being slightly cheeky regarding the erm...incredibly tenous crap that gets put on front page (wendy and lisa.f deluxe that gets about 300 views) compared to quite often Prince live, interviews that doesnt...

i did and i do find it incredibely odd

just saying!

Dear JonyL, don't take what I said too seriously I also was half jokingly responding

I guess the thread was posted 12am-ish, I was sound asleep, I just happened to check in early this morning

On one hand I dig what he said. On the other hand it does sound like a midlife crisis & him missing out on real fatherhood. This is what he does instead of buying a corvette. (He already had a red one ) I just hope for some east coast dates and an album by year's end that's playable all the way thru.

Just like: "you wear a burqa. People are happy with that."
Someone had to bring it up, right!? But I do agree with Schlomo, he made some good points.

How did Prince get to be so damned boring? sigh

He's formed his own version of David Bowie's "Tin Machine", albeit better.
But, soooooo boring. sigh

After 3 years away, his last album was a bunch of throwaway nonsense that wasn't even distributed in America (or the majority of the world), and now.....after 3 damned years, he has enough material for a single album from a 20 something girl band at the end of this year?

Is this really Prince anymore?

lol at the 22 year old "manager".

Sorry, but I have huge doubts that a notrorious control freak like Prince is allowing a 22 year old to 'manage' him. He has issues trusting ANYbody to do ANYthing. This woman may have the official title of his manager, but somehow I doubt she's actually doing much that would have great impact on his career. I just don't see him giving an inexperienced, incredibly young person that much control and power of something as precious to him as his CAREER.

Yes, she was. But she's out of the picture for a while now, and I guess Julia has been promoted from assistant to manager.

But all these girls all look the same - Bria, Kiran, Julia - very similar

Apparently, you need to have "the look" to be eligible for employment with Prince...

Interesting. So according to the interview, he gets fresh and new ideas from the young people, which is usually the case when younger people are involved, especially with technology assisting in bringing fresh and new ideas, and better ways to do things. But, seeing how he says he doesn't like hanging around old people, probably because he thinks their ideas are ancient, so, I guess his aim with this rock music and his future music plans is to attract younger and new fans under 30.

Another thing, the comment about his new group not caring about the world, just the music? Seriously? It's the young people who assist in changing the world, learning from those before them, and how to make things better. What happens in the world affects their future too. Well, I guess this is the new Prince, and lets see how many young people he could get to listen, and educate them about the music of older musicians, like Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Larry Graham, and all those great musicians who were many of his influences, and whose music he's been performing with these young members of this new group lately. It is what it is. shrug

Well, that girl got him Kimmel, Fallon, a Billboard cover, an Icon Award and a great tour so far.. Not bad...Puffy, Russell and dare I say Prince were all young when they had their greatest impact. I think its good that he is reaching down and learning rom a younger generation conversely, its their dream gig at a young age.,. Hate all you all want.. Kiran btw, is his booking agent. He also put her in charge of the girl grou "king", Lewis Hamilton, Misty copeland etc

lol lol Agreed.

There isn't a lack of songwriting, maybe in the mainstream/top 40 music but if you further than that there a lot of great artists that still write great songs and lyrics. he has a lot of young talented people around for a reason right? so this statement doesn't make a lot of sense to me. but a lot of stuff he ''says'' in the interviews doesn't make sense. lol lol

also the manager thing is weird yeah... just 22.. confused

...I would settle for one GOOD album every 3 years...if by "good" we mean "outstanding & worthy of the Prince moniker".

Yes!

I think that he needs to make up his mind as to whether he TRULY wants to "return" to mainsteam music or not.

How ironic is it for a guy who seemingly cannot write a decent song anymore to disrespect Bob Dylan?

Bob Dylan never cared about "crossing over",he writes music for everyone and doesn't cater to color lines ,something maybe Prince could learn from.

Bob Dylan is a master at his craft...crossover status be damned.

I'm thinking the same thing. I barely recognize him. He's so full of shit too. He can't even bring himself to give props to Dylan when he knows full well that Bob crossed over and had a huge influence on people of every colour and culture. Prince knows he will never be the lyricist Bob is, but he should know when props are due. Prince will always be the second most important musician from the state of Minnesota and it's clear he can't stand it.

I could care less about this new bad and new cd. It could be good, but I'm not exicted about it and won't be running out to buy it until I hear it.

Now you're starting to understand why I've yet to buy another Prince album after 3121. The moment Prince started to get boring due to not having anymore interesting ideas (for now), I ended up losing some interest.
