The prices for these recent concerts are much higher than his previous tour. It was mentioned in the media that he gets a million a show and that he got a mill from Samsung for the sxsw rest. Do the math on the 250 tickrts

I don't think he's crazy or mentally ill, just extremely susceptive to what other people, he views as knowledgable, say.

Some industry asshole probably told him about how piracy was stealing and how every instance was lost profit and, instead of questioning it like a normal person, he accepted it. Now he has a team of laywers he probably doesn't even talk to doing these ridiculous takedowns that are PR poison.

He asks a Rolling Stone interviewer how to get his new music out and when he gets the answer of "you're Prince, just put it online", all of the sudden 20pr1nc3 and 3rd Eye Girl pop up out of nowhere.

Larry Graham talks to him for two years and gets him to convert over to being a Jehovah's Witness. No cursing. Completely changed his persona. And Prince unironically used a fucking Matrix reference when referring to why he chose to do it.

He travels to Islamic countries, gets the VIP treatment and says later "It's fun being in Islamic countries, to know there's only one religion. There's order. You wear a burqa. There's no choice. People are happy with that." when that clearly isn't the case to anybody who follows the news in those areas.

Who knows how many decisions of his were influenced by various people whispering in his ear.

"Why doesn't he listen to his fans?" A) probably everything is filtered through various assistants before reaching him and B) there's no definitive voice coming from everybody regarding the future. Everybody has thoughts on what he should do with the vault or remastering old work but nobody has any real comments on where he should go forward (which is kind of ridiculous to expect from fans in the first place)

  • Why did my post lose all it's paragraph formatting? It looks like garbage now sad

[Edited 4/3/13 15:20pm]

[Edited 4/3/13 15:21pm]

Sooo what you are saying is...its not mental illness, he is gripped by a cultic control?

sad That is sad I always though he was an "I'm in charge" kinda person. When did that die?

I wouldn't say that. It's more like he's easily influenced by other people he respects or views as an equal.

That would explain why he's so back and forth on everything.

tonight the stars are out
there's music in the air
the sounds of joy and celebration
are drowning out despair

What CharlieRise said reminded me of something I read in Uptown, so I looked it up. It's a quote from a WB employee named Marylou Badeaux (#38 p.7 for those who still have 'em)
"Most of the artists I've known through the years have a self-esteem problem, Prince included. Everyone knew that Prince was always influenced by whomever had his ear."

Link? I'm not searching for it.

Multiplying 250 x a few hundred tickets does not bring in anywhere near $1 million. Nor will the bar in the club sell enough drinks to make up the difference, not to mention leave a profit margin for the promoter. And if the tickets don't all sell (most of the cities on this tour still have tickets available), there's another shortfall.

Let’s just hope the estate of Whitney Houston doesn’t get in on the DMCA action. I wouldn’t want to lose this classic:

Yes I know it is a joke:

But Weird: the song was clearly "I Will Always Love You" written by Dolly Parton. Even if it was sang as Whitney did... Still not near enough of the song is done to even begin to be a violation.

If that was the kind of thing prince has his purple panties in a knot over he will just end up looking stupid....er.

Prince does inded have one of the highest performance guarantees in the business. Its reported to by 7 figures per show.. I'm sure these small dates arent part of that deal. The real question is why woould another mna /woman care about what someone else is making if it doesn;t affect your life?

Some genuinley care about his art and his legacy, others just worry about his bank and his business.

I bet he secretly hates having to trade on his old self.

That toure book interview video, old Prince, Purple Rain and Lovesexy (The female anchor suddenly looked blank and clueless at Lovesexy, good job the Rainbow Children didn't come up. Didn't hear a peep from her after that)

That's how it is now.

Because he hates the internet, he loved it once. Funny that.

What utter nonsense. Prince's art and legacy is not going away becasue he is not on YouTube. And let's not pretend this is about anything but someone's childish sense of entitlement..other than Prince's..

'Oh noes, Prince has disappeared from my Facebook, he must not exist anymore' or was it becasue of MySpace, AOL, Netscape..it's a wonder he was relevant in the 80's without the internet. SMH

I only brought it up because everyone keeps in implying that not being on YOUTUBE or some other social network with free content will hurt his concert sales. This is just not true for Prince and I see no evidence that is true for any other performer. People on this site simply want free music or at least they want P's music to be free and P does not see it that way and that is his right.

It's evidenced in this thread.

Where is the Montreux video he trailed on his OWN website? not here yet. Don't expect it either. Luckily i have it being a studious, naughty bootleg collector, with hard drives filled with stuff money can't buy but that's not the point. I would buy it. It's nothing to do with my self-entitlement, or selfishness. i own that shit anyway.

Joe Blogs who might just have gotten fully in to Prince had he seen Montreux now has no chance of seeing or buying it, and going on past history, never will. So he walks away scratching his head at the lack of product available. Well that equals another potential lost Prince fan right there. You could multiply that example over and over.

How many years is it since his last official DVD release? How many tours has he done since then? Waste opportunities at every turn. Thank fuck for bootlegs.

Prince is an idiot and frankly anyone that doesn't see that is the follower of an idiot.

Don't worry he's still a millionnaire. Apparently that makes him relevant still. Wrong.

"Prince is an idiot and frankly anyone that doesn't see that is the follower of an idiot." You collect bootlegs so you are a follower [Name calling snip - luv4u].

He can put out whatever he wants to put out. You do not get to decide and the attiude of I am booting something because I have a right to it is idiotic. I am sorry you

Socialist do not understand the concept of free market. Since P is a millionaire meaning someone likes paying to see him perform and actually buy his music he is relevant. You stop being relevant when the marketplace stops buying your stuff not because 2,000 memebers of Prince.org are angry at the lack of free goodies.

We have no rights but we got it via different ways.

You must be american. Still not garbbing the real menaing of `socialist`. Please reread. Also check the meaning of capitalism and how the anglo-saxons have perverted capitalism into socialism for the rich.

do not understand the concept of free market.

Show me a market that is truly free. You can't.

I can. Maybe bicoin comes close at this moment in time.

Since P is a millionaire meaning someone likes paying to see him perform and actually buy his music he is relevant.

What does his stash of cash have to do with attending shows and buying records?

You stop being relevant when the marketplace stops buying your stuff not because 2,000 memebers of Prince.org are angry at the lack of free goodies.

People, aftera while, do get an idea of how the person behind the musician is.

That idea migth backfire.
