You use too much slang and local tv references, hard for me to understand what you say. You mean brazilian was a hairstyle in the 80s? Okay, then I'm the hairstyle of the girl who were Raspberry Beret. You have a pic of that hairstyle? I got curious. Sorry but it was the only thing I could understand from what you wrote.

My apologies. I do use too much slang and I appreciate you may not be aware of such references and colloquialisms.

By way of an explanation, read Brazilian:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ini_waxing

And that's a 'Dave Lee Travis';

Not to be confused with Nookie bear, though almost as furry.

I just realized I don't really like most of Prince 'art' work.

Have never been really impressed by any cover or poster. My favorite video's clips are not Prince's.

I have 2 say I HATE every version of Nothing Compares 2 U by Prince i've ever heard. Way too cheesy, and I don't have a big problem with cheese but the version with Rosie Gaines in particular from the Hits is AWFUL. I actually wish Prince could release a definitive version of the song with the emotion that Sinead 'O' Connors version had and without all that cheese.

TOTALLY agreed. St. Paul and Sinead werked that song better than Prince ever has. In fact, the only reason he even gave that song a second thought is because Sinead gave it new life

For those who don't "understand" Small Club - you have to put your mindset back to that era - a SOUNDBOARD...PRINCE...AFTERSHOW...with a ton of unreleased jams on it??? And one of his most blistering solos to date?? OMG

Plus, the sound quality of it is remarkable. Since then we've all been a bit spoiled (with City Lights, the 84 birthday show, the list goes on....), but this boot truly set a whole new bar, and that's why it's so highly regarded.

I'm an old schooler - a lot of this thread seems to be newer fans. And that's great! You'll get it in time. What I wouldn't give to be back at Camelot Records, trying to figure out which of the dozen Prince records to buy....

To the one who said Adore is a lyrical mess... you're missing out. That's his best love song and if you don't get that, you're in for a long confusing ride.

Reading threads like these always reminds me of why Prince is so great - with SO much music, there's something for everyone.

My shocking confession:

When I air-guitar Prince songs, I make Prince faces.

I haven't paid for a Prince release at a wrekka stow since Rave and The Vault came out in 1999.

I have the CDs from the NPGMC: Rave In2, and 1 night alone demos... and the 1 night alone box set plus also have 4 musicology CDs that I got at the concerts.

Other than that, it's all been by "other means." I justify this by paying high concert ticket prices, and not paying for bootlegs (which also come via "other means").

Now the RIAA is gonna be knocking on my door. Great.

Opposite to you:

Maybe a shocker ?

I have paid for all releases available, CDs, vinyls 12 inches, 7 inches, LPs, VHS tapes, DVDs, cassette tapes, I own most of his albums in all formats. Collecting back then was really fun, to get ext versions and b-sides.. it used to be like heaven being a Prince fan. smile

Recently (last year) I paid for 1999, Controversy and Purple Rain in Deluxe 180 grams vinyl LP's.

and:

I am ready to pay for more products, in case that motherf*cker (sorry Prince) will release it, if he will ever release good products again (Remasters, DVD's and blah, blah, blah... lol )

I heart to pay and collect good original stuff from Prince,

Unfortunately he is realeasing crap like those remixes of that awful song "Rock N Roll Love Affair".

Damn... I am ready to pay him/ Prince --- but will he let me... seems like he won't let me buy any great stuff... confused

Just remembered another confession

The reason I'm 'meh' about Alphabet St is due to the rap.

I'm embarrassed by the raps in his songs and can't stand any Prince rap song. I'm often left wondering who in heavens name told him he could rap? or that he could write raps for someone else to recite?

He has no skills in that area and all his raps sound lame. Prince cant do everything!! Musical genius or not, just cause you think you 'can' doesnt me u should.

He shouldnt rap

I didn't know the word brazilian was so common to refer to a form of waxing. I knew it existed, but not that the word would be immediately read as this. Like french for french fries maybe? Similarly, in Portuguese, the word Espanhola (Spanish) can also mean a form of sex in which the penis is inserted between the woman's tits.

Anyway, now i get the joke! lol

I suppose, for I'm not sure of it, but some people here must know for sure, that during some times p had some people (photographers, visual artists etc) that made the visual work (clothes, covers, videos) for him, and other times he'd do it himself or hire someone from Pasley Park. So that his WB covers from the 80 were frequently very good. Parade, Jean Baptiste Mondino's Lovesexy, Purple Rain, 1999, Dirty Mind, Controversy, Prince, Around the world in a day, all these eras were of great imagery. But there were a lot of regretful images too. All his 2000 album covers are mysteriously unexplainable to me, as most of his 1990 covers (with the exception of maybe Come). But THIS is the most mysterious cover to me. Is it a Project Runway sketch?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think Purple Rain the album is a pop masterpiece in every sense of that term, but the movie is heinous. What does it teach? That The Kid, an abusive, jealous control freak (hmm...how much acting was taking place there? Anyway...) is nonetheless redeemed through his talent and will. We're meant to feel vicariously redeemed by his cathartic experience playing Purple Rain, and yet we're led to forget that he's abusive! Has the fact that he hits women regularly simply vanished by the magic of a great rock anthem? Does the fact that he hits women simply not matter? Who cares as long as he's still sexy and talented? It's an awful film.

The movie's even more heartless, even more cruel, with the relationship between The Kid's mother and father. Here the movie makes it explicitly clear that the husband beats the living shit out of this woman, and by the end we're supposed to feel greater sympathy for the father, and we're supposed to feel moved by his wife's devotion to him when he's in the hospital. Please. The wife would have been justified in finishing the bastard off at that point.

Here are my big 3

2. He is ONE of the reasons why I am very, very interested in becoming a Jehovah Witness. The change in him is so inspiring to me

3. Lastly, I believe Prince is human just like you and I. I belive he doesn't do the splits anymore not only cause he doesn't want to but also because at nearly 55 years of age he probably can't go down or pop back up as quickly as he used to. And I believe he MAY wear a wig or have extentions because baldness is genetic and it happened to his father. Of course I could be wrong.

Here is a picture of Prince without hair piece on. He uses them to do more unique or different hair styles his hair wont let him do anymore.

Good luck to you on the JW thing. I am not a fan of certain people (hierarchy of church) telling you this is the only way to Jehovah. I also don't understand why only a select few get to go when the end comes. There is always a form of elitism that exists with in these restrictive (non-God like) religions that just doesn't sit well with me. But, if it makes you happy, God bless you.

I have purchased every Prince album legally. (The fact that this is a confession is telling, no?)

I love the "Hits" as much as what some of you call filler on albums like Sign O the times-I like all the songs. I even love the"hits" as much as any song on Come. FYI:Now, I don't like all songs (See Purple & Gold-Although P&G was a traditional and sounded just like all the other football songs-I did research.)

This is the most shocking fan confession of all time: I don't berate Prince when he does something I might not care for.

While I don't hate the track, Glam Slam is a very average song by Prince during his heyday and in no way should have been his 2nd single! shake Alphabet St. was the only song that was commercial enough to be a hit single regardless of how brilliant Anna Stesia is. TBH he should have just worked on promoting Sign 'O' The Times for another year and spent more time on making Lovesexy a more fully realised album, but then he wouldn't be Prince would he! lol

WOW! He looks great with his hair like that. I can see that it is thinning a bit and in this pic he appears to have combed the front back to hide it, but it still looks good.

As far as JW I am not going become a member of them nor any other religion or demonmination for the time being. Basically because I personally feel that if I don't agree with ALL of a particular religions beliefs then it would be silly and unfair for me to fully become a this or a that. Not to mention the hipocracy and judgmental attitutes that exist in a vast majoiry of all religions are a major turn off for me. I have two older JW ladies who study the Bible with me every week and I also go and worship in a number of other buildings but I am not going to become a member of any right now. I am going to let God direct my path

shocking confessions !

I don't like the gold experience very much - only a handful of good songs - and those npg operator interludes ruin it completely

I enjoy listening to his recent music more than the old (and I've been a follower since the controversy-1999 era)

I like newpowersoul and emancipation !

Adore, diamonds and pearls and purple rain bore me

Elixir and Superconductor are GREAT protege albums - Tamar's screeching can stay unreleased IMHO

I would rather listen to studio work than live - seeing him live is one thing but listening to it without the visuals and not in person makes me understand why he hasn't released much live stuff
