Prince Will Be Attending the Tribute Concert in His Honour at Carnegie Hall - March 7, 2013 I read on hear recently that one of the venues that PRINCE has never performed at is the legendary CARNEGIE HALL. Major tribute to him next year.Seems like a big deal looking at the previous artists that have been feted.

This could be Really Good. Or Really Bad. I hope they get some amazing performers that will do his catalog justice. Please Please no drake or any rappers. Patti can come and kick off her shoes again..lol Who would you like to see in the line-up? Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews. | |

Celebrating Prince
An all-star tribute honoring Prince is set for New York City’s Carnegie Hall March 7. Although a lineup has not yet been announced, people are already buying tickets for the show. Maybe that’s because the man in charge never fails to provide audiences with nights to remember.
The man we’re referring to is New York City promoter Michael Dorf, founder of the Knitting Factory and co-founder of the Digital Club Network, who opened City Winery in 2008. Dorf has been organizing these tributes for years and past honorees include The Who, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell and R.E.M. The Prince tribute will mark Dorf’s ninth annual concert in the series. Artists who have played Dorf’s tribute concerts include Jackson Browne, Rickie Lee Jones, The Black Crowes’ Rich Robinson, Steve Earle, Taj Mahal and Marianne Faithful. Of course, honoring an artist and doing the show at Carnegie Hall doesn’t necessarily mean the honoree will be present. Dorf talked with Pollstar earlier this year, telling us which artists came to play and which came to watch. “Bruce Springsteen came and played the encore,” Dorf said. “What was amazing to me was that in two songs he had worked up a full sweat. He stood out because he caught a private plane after the show to catch up with his family in Florida. He made a major effort to be there. He was amazing. “R.E.M. came and played the encore. Bernie Taupin came to the Elton John tribute and enjoyed the show. Simon & Garfunkel came and enjoyed their show.”
All the proceeds from Dorf’s tribute shows always benefit various charities. For the upcoming Prince tribute the recipients include The American Symphony Orchestra’s Music Notes, Church Street School Of Music, Young Audiences New York, FIKS (Fixing Instruments For Kids In Schools), Little Kids Rock and the Center For Arts Education. That's what i'm thinking...how can he NOT perform at this legendary venue, especially if he has NEVER performed there? Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. I doubt Prince will show up to the Carnegie Hall tribute concert. The only reason Prince showed up to the BET Awards in 2010 was because he hand picked the performers and chose which songs they would sing. If Prince could have stopped this tribute from happening he would have. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR | |

Blehhh such a tired list. Alicia, Andre, Lenny Janelle, Chaka and Patti never add anything to Prince's work. Just masturbation. I REALLY hope they add performers who will add color and contribute to Prince's work rather than the same patronizing boring folks who add nothing. Jack White would be thrilling to see, U2...actual creative folks who can add something new, not just cover performers. | |

I totally agree wholeheartedly. There are artists and musicians in rock music that would give superior performances than most of the names on that list excluding D'Angelo. I don't want to hear someone who cannot sing rock music singing "Purple Rain". Foo Fighters for example could do "Endorphinmachine" or a high octane rocker like that.
Being that the concert is at Carnegie Hall, I'm assuming the band won't dress up like Prince circa any point in his career. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR | |

Not a bad lineup. I could see Stevie Wonder singing some of Prince's more political/Planet Earth type tracks. Sheila E playing his latin-flavored tracks. Chaka Khan singing his more upbeat r&b soul tracks along with Patti LaBelle. The Time doing Prince's Minneapolis sound. Lenny can definitely do Prince's popular rock and blues-rock tracks, no question, and maybe add Joni Mitchell to the list to do his pop ballads. Maceo doing P's jazz and funk tracks. I think musicians/artists he's had a close or long-term, music history with or whose music he was influenced by, should be doing some of the tributes. I honestly don't know why some of his fans though, tend to belittle P's r&b/soul flavor, when he has so many, beautiful, soul and blues ballads. [Edited 12/22/12 20:03pm] | |

you really believe that,huh? I don't think Prince will perform at the tribute just like he didn't perform at the BET Awards when he received the lifetime achievement award. I was shocked when he showed up at the BET Awards 2 years ago. The Carnegie Hall concert is much more prestigious. I just hope the promoters book some rock acts. Someone has to wail on the ax if Prince isn't. And I might be in the minority but I don't wanna see Questlove during this tribute. I think he's overrated as a drummer and can be on the sidelines for this one.

Lenny is a good choice as a rock act, to sing and perform some of Prince's rock tracks. At the end of the day, fans sure won't be the ones choosing the acts though. | |

I know it would be far far easier to get Lenny, Questlove, Janelle and other less-in-demand acts, and I know it would be next to imposible to book top artist to perform a tribute concert, but these are among my top dream choices.
