Although I don't like this new single he's about to put out I'm not making assumptions he's all out of good material. For those who don't like any of his recent output, don't assume everyone else feel the same as you do. Also don't just assume Prince feels his music is crap, because if he did I'm pretty sure he would keep it to himself.

Considering that Prince can't be arsed to promote it, or keep it in print, or even release it in most of the world, I'd say he knows damn well it's shit. He's just happy he's found yet another rube to pay big bucks for something he cranked out in a couple of days after his accountant told him the unpaid bills were starting to stack up.

Let me pose a couple of questions to everyone who values the musical tastes of todays youth so highly.

As a kid growing up did your parents give you final say on what music they were listening to?

If you didn't like the music they choose did they automatically write it off?

Here's the thing: just about the biggest band in the world right now are The Foo Fighters. Now, here's a band that has been around for 18 years. And in fact, when they were headlining the Pukkelpop festival earlier this year, there were plenty of teenagers plus their parents, both enjoying the band. Coldplay? Same for U2. Same for Bruce Springsteen. Coldplay have always sounded like middle aged wankers, yet they're big amongst teens.

That's an odd phenomenon, because when I was a teenager, I didn't particularly care for the music of my parents or for artists that were already going for two decades or so. And my parents didn't know much about the music I was listening to.

That has changed in the past quarter of a century. I'm 40+ yet still listening to current music, visiting music blogs, etcetera. I was the whitest and oldest guy at a recent concert by The Weeknd, and I see teens going to Pixies gigs in Led Zeppelin t-shirts.

Which is really fricking odd when you're watching a documentary on punk and see Malcolm McLaren explain about how punk came along because there hadn't been anything to upset parents in about three years time. (The again, in later life McLaren himself often was the old dude who was into the latest thing ages before the mainstream caught on.)

If you're 100% comfortable and confident about what you're into and down with then you ain't worried about what the next person(young or old) has to say about it. I can make the crappiest Prince track into the fucking jam on full blast cause I'll play that shit with no shame and let anyone say what they want about it.

I like plenty of shitty music, but I'm also not afraid to admit it is shitty music.

Totally disagree with this
I would LOVE another:
Indigo Nights (partly love this cause I was at one of the shows on the CD)
Lotusflower
20TEN

I can't wait for the next album, if it's anything like Andys album it will sound sonically awesome!

What I don't want another:
Planet Earth
3121
Rave
Emancipation
"Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"

yes you will all condemn me for pissing on a parade before it's even started but why do I get the feeling that another hastily put together CD of the same standard as Planet Earth, 20Ten etc is being thrown together in order to give Andy A's project a lift - call me cynical!.

When P can turn out stuff as great as this: http://www.youtube.com/wa...1uUIJPD0Nk then I'll be back with bells and whistles on. Check it out and don't dare tell me you don't wish P could do something as great as this!.

I truly hope that I am wrong and that his next album will have some care and attention spent on it and will actually be interesting to listen to!.

Flame away!

That link is shite and why dont you start up a prince77-96.org with the rest of the moaners?

i'll even predict it:

3 Ballads [1 with slow sexy horns, all with lots of innuendo]

1 hard rock type track [think guitar / peach etc]

2 mid paced soft rock tracks - inevitably about how crap life is or how he's had his heart broken again![count R&R affair as one!]

1 horn driven funk track with a Maceo solo thrown in

1 dance type track with crap lyrics and totally dull / unimaginative use of key boards

1 quirky track [think everybody loves me]

1 lethargic attempt at a Rap / Funk combo

Instruments -

Drums: both real and sampled drums + obligatory use of THE 80's drum machine

Bass : sits in the background with no riff = dull

Guitar - the usual cliches'

Horns - the usual horn stabs, solos etc

keyboards - standard use, forget the 1999 albums period of pure innovation

Production:

Forget innovation, imagination i.e. Beck!, think of the same hastily chucked together mix.

Martketing - the script is already written!!!, a dizzying mix of styles, real music by blah blah, bringing back the love, the world needs to heal!! Oh and 'lets talk about Andys' CD!!

Enjoy your experience!!!

Those of you that are bored of Prince and not looking forward to his next release, let me ask you a question: What was the last Prince album that you really enjoyed/were into?

The list of items funkyhead put together is humorous because (minus the subjective statements) it is partly true. Furthermore, this formula has been true for the BULK of Prince's music in his career.

I agree with Skywalker and would like to add for those that are constantly saying they are done with Prince, Please spare me, You are on here all the time bitching and saying your done blah blah blah. IF that were true you wouldn't be on this fourm anymore and posting ridiculous nonsense and looking for info on what may be new and upcomming. And your also the ones probably going to buy the next album the second it comes out. lol. I can respect those that don't like or agree with certain Prince albums and choices, that's why Princes fans are so diverse and prince writes many styles of music. So love the "prince" you like, and appreciate the talent that is prince. I mean if you think you can do better Please by all means.... go play some stadiums, headline festivals and show us "your" genius LOl Lol LOL. I can say I will buy what ever prince releases, if I don't like something I listening to it more and give it time and it usually grows on me.

Here's an idea: until you've released something that is equal to what Prince has put out, you cannot lavish any praise on his output.

Oh wait, you don't like that I apply the same standards to your posts as you seek to apply on others?

The difference is I don't tell everyone what he should and shouldn't be doing. I don't presume to be able to make better music than Prince has made or will make. Saying you don't like something is different than saying you know what will make it better(in your opinion).

Totally agree!!!

I think we should be pretty much aware Prince will do what he do! LOL

I am one of the few that has liked his recent output. Lotusflower in particular was very strong. I just wish he would release them a normal way. I can't be bothered anymore searching the internet or paying $$ for an import. I got 20Ten by chance as a friend was in London at the time and kindly picked one up for me. It was ok...but certainly not worth jumping through hoops for. If it's not on iTunes chances are I won't be hearing it. If Andy can do it, I can't figure out why Prince can't.

as KKool' keeps hinting at the word 'masterpiece' + some recent reworkings / mentions of older vault tracks I think it is safe to assume that a disc of lifeless re-recordings of vault tracks are on their way with possibly a few new tracks inc R&R affair.

Time will tell.

This is pretty spot on.

The dance type track will have insipid lyrics about seducing a girl with his money and style.

Something like this:

Girl u been tripping all night

U know i'ma treat you right

Check this limo, girl

& this champagne

Ur too fine for

More of the same

Then some awful chorus with lines like "We gon' have a purple party! Aaaaallll niiiiiggght! Aaaaaall riiiiigght!" with some girl in the background trying to sound sexy whispering stuff like "Yeah...all night"

The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

"You still wanna take me to prison...just because I won't trade humanity for patriotism."

Fair enough about your expectation of the next P release......don't want to, but I suppose sadly I have to agree.

But mate, that music in the link you sent is bl00dy awful, lol! Just sounds like someones taken Moby's rubbish idea and remade it. Rip off some old music, put some annoying repetitive modern sounds and scratching crap on it......aaaaaaand loop it. Finished!

I expect to see it accompanying a Nike advert or something....absolute tosh!
