agreed, collaboration with others who are excellent always brings out the best in him - just look at the George Harrison tribute. His current bank are super talented but are happy to part of the ride- looks good on their CV!!.

Here's an idea: until you've released something that is equal to what Prince has put out, you cannot lavish any praise on his output.

Oh wait, you don't like that I apply the same standards to your posts as you seek to apply on others?

The difference is I don't tell everyone what he should and shouldn't be doing. I don't presume to be able to make better music than Prince has made or will make. Saying you don't like something is different than saying you know what will make it better(in your opinion).

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Mane, I can’t believe that you have the sanity or guts to compare Romanthony and Angel Haze to Prince. The best thing that Romanthony ever did was sample Minister Louis Farrakhan. Other than that, it’s the same ole basic house music crap as all house music is crap. And with “Cleaning out My Closet” Angel Haze ain’t doing nothing but ripping off Eminem, and anybody who has to steal from Eminem should be choked until their eyes close forever. Let me pose a couple of questions to everyone who values the musical tastes of todays youth so highly.

As a kid growing up did your parents give you final say on what music they were listening to?

If you didn't like the music they choose did they automatically write it off?

I know my parents didn't and none of my friends parents didn't either. This site is full of old people chasing the validation of todays youth on their personal taste in hopes of seeming cool and relevant themselves. When you actively start consulting kids to make choices on what you should be doing you're OLD. If you're 100% comfortable and confident about what you're into and down with then you ain't worried about what the next person(young or old) has to say about it. I can make the crappiest Prince track into the fucking jam on full blast cause I'll play that shit with no shame and let anyone say what they want about it.

in the spirit of this post i just put "y should eye do that when eye can do this?" on full volume

and danced around the livingroom lol

i have no regrets and no shame. it felt great. nod

now i'm gonna make a hip playlist with current bands for when my company comes over in a

You opened this thread with an opinion on music you've yet to hear(or may never hear since no CD has been announced as of yet) then offered up a sample of what you perceive as "greatness" then "dare" us to deny your opinion. Obviously all opinions aren't valid and don't count.

As for "if you can do better go ahead..." I'm not telling people to shut up actually I'm telling them the exact opposite of shut up. I'm telling them to "put up". There are a multitude of backseat producers on this site with the "formula" to how Prince can blow our minds, bring the funk, et cetera, et cetera. All I'm saying is then why haven't they brought the funk and blown our minds already!

No one or almost no one here is a musician. Whenever you read a bad critical review of an album even made by professionals your answer is always "then why don't you do it yourself"?

I love André and the Neptunes, agree that they're his students. Maybe he could also collaborate with other students like Janelle Monáe and Esperanza Spalding. Lauryn Hill and D'Angelo from the 90's school would also sound great. Maybe he should in short look at the "students" that were influenced by his music and studied at home, not the ones he taught himself (Bria Valente, Carmen Electra, Tony M). He's not a good teacher. Get together with your distance students!

Or some of his old school colleagues like Chaka, Patti, Stevie... That'd be awesome too.

In the early 60s, thus late in his carreer, Duke Ellington got to work with Coleman Hawkins, Louis Armstrong and John Coltrane, and made GREAT albums.

that's not the point I'm making - forget the structure of the song the point is I heard this on radio today and everyone around stopped, looked, smiled and heads were bobbin'. It brings a solid blues riff with modern beats to a young audience - in short it got a great response and generated lots of interest. When r&r affair hits the radio what reaction do you think it will get?!!

First I'd ask where you were when this came on the radio(a mall, a music store, your car, a public lavoratory). Second since when are young audience the barometer of good music these days. The youth of many nations have elevated "artists" such as Rihanna and Justin Beiber to star status. Even the slightly more talented bunch out today are too busy trying to emulate Prince, MJ or Madonna to even be compared to any of them with laughing. How much interest did this song generate was "everyone around" compelled to run to the nearest music store and purchase it? did they all stop and immediately download it to their smartphones? R&R Love Affair got bootlegged the instant it aired and downloaded by "everyone here". That's a lot of interest in my book.

Gee, he's just saying he heard it with other people around and they seem to enjoy it. Not saying kids tell what's good and what's not or whatsoever. Don't make such a mess for something that wasnt even said.

Both sides really need to stop trying to denegrate the other into their way of thinking. If you don't like the next "sonically dull CD by numbers" then that's cool but t's also cool for others to love it.

My take is that you like drum n bass and the type of stuff a lot of DJ's are doing now and wish Prince would incorporate that into his music so you can have the best of both worlds on one CD. Everyone should have a dream.

I'm sure somebody on here wants him to do country-western or reggae at this point but it's not based upon a sound professional production stance it's all about self gratification for the individual. I listened to the link you posted and it's okay. It might sound better at 2am in a warehouse where people are high as fuck and covered in some foreign substance.

As for the original question, Yeah I am ready.

any orger/ex-orger who makes it in the music world (not necessarily in the mainstream) would be too embarrassed to admit to this website, considering the prince-drivel that many posters seem to appreciative of.

for your benefit then, sensible opinions are valid!. Not to get into a handbags at dawn situation [really not my style!] but telling non musicians/regular fans on here to put up or else not have an opinion is kinda dumb. I am not telling him to bring back the funk - I just want some care and pride put into what he releases. If you were part of his band would you really give him a big pat on the pack and say 'hey p, that R&R track just kills everything else around'. IMHO -r&r is so full of cheese it just needs a burger and a bun and it could be served up at McD's!. IF there is an album [and there are some quotes from media suggesting so] I stand by my assertion that it is a rush job to help Andy's CD. Likewise I also think it may be re-recordings of out takes given the recent vibes.

The link was pretty dope, but is not a direction I would like to see Prince go. I think he would consider that noisy garbage. I actually came to really really love some of the tracks on 20ten. Sticky Like Glue, Lavaux, Future Soul Song, Laydown. Maybe because I was able to see so many live shows when he parked it in Los Angeles for so many nights last year. I also really like People Pleaser by Andy, and was thrilled he re-released Extralovable when he was doing Canada. MPLS and Lotus Flower had some amazing tracks too. Dance 4 Me (and the remix was even better), Valentina, Ol' Skool Company, $, Wall of Berlin, Colonized Mind, Crimson & Clover, From the Lotus, Boom, 2Nite. Granted these songs are not very commercial at all. But I'm not so sure Prince desires to be radio friendly in todays climate. If he really wanted to, I'm sure he could make a call to Rihanna and put something together that sounds current and would chart... just don't think it's what he wants. Wasn't it about 15 years ago he chanted "Don't Play Me" His fan base is pretty well established, he is gauranteed a certain amount of album sales without a hit single. And the money is really in the touring anyway and he really doesn't need a hit single to sell out shows. So why deal with all the needed corporate contracts, appeasing the suits, sharing of the wealth, promotion, and appearances that go along with radio commercial success.

The best thing that Romanthony ever did was sample Minister Louis Farrakhan. Other than that, it’s the same ole basic house music crap as all house music is crap.

Ah, I see you've got an open mind.

And with “Cleaning out My Closet” Angel Haze ain’t doing nothing but ripping off Eminem,

No, she's doing something that has been a staple of hip-hop since its start: taking someone's song and doing their own version. Like a cover, except with more creativity in the mix.

And that “Werkin' Girls” bs sounds like a damn eleven year old wrote it during recess for a talent show featuring children that ride the short bus.

Again more of that open mind. Oh BTW, it isn't just me, a kazillion music blogs are also hailing her talent.

Is this really the kind of shit you think is better than what Prince has been doing for the past twelve to twenty years?

Just two of many, many examples.
