This song is a perfect example of what's wrong with this album.

It sounds good at first, solid groove - then nothing happens of much variety or inspiration, and then it ends.

At the same time overproduced and unfinished. Too much energy into the studio and too little into the songwriting.

Have u ever made a hit song b 4? If not. U have no idea what u talking about.......

Only another 25,000 'masterpiece' posts & the mothership is guaranteed to pick you up, right?

It's a nice little track, definately achieved what he set out to do - i.e. fit in with the R&B pop landscape of the time. I think maybe it gets lost in general dislike for the mid-late 90s in general, but it is one of those tracks that hit the mark, and there are SO many that did not.

There's absolutely nothing going on musically though - doesn't Prince, like, play all those instruments and stuff? It does sound like an MJ HIStory era track. *snigger*

A simple jam true, something about the energy and the attitude on the hook I appreciate with his vocals.

SoulAlive

It's a cool track.I think it would have done well as a single during that time...especially on the R&B charts.

If EMI wouldn't have folded soon after its release Prince definitely would have had some hits from this "MasterPiece" of a project. I'm sure out of all his releases this one had to be a bit disappointing to him. Since he put so much time & effort into planning it.But sometimes in life things don't go as planned & the lost of Boy Gregory played a major play in it as well. sad

Played a major part in what?

Prince's abandonment from it. He rarely if ever plays any of the 32 trax that he well crafted from it live, from the project. It proves its too painful to relive for him...

There are many albums that Prince rarely plays any songs from, so it proves nothing. I'm not trying to say the event was or wasn't painful for Prince, but I do know a week after it happened he was doing shows at Paisley Park for the hell of it.

Have u ever made a hit song b 4? If not. U have no idea what u talking about.......

Is that supposed to be a comment? On what?

Can you hear how far out your comment is? Or do you consider it valid as debate?

Consider: "Have you ever been a nazi or a concentration camp victim? Then you have no idea what you are talking about when you discuss 30s and 40s Germany"

Or on a less bizarre level: "Have you ever made a movie yourself? Then you have no idea whether this movie is a good or a bad one".

A valid comment would be about either the subject or the communication and could be something along the lines of (hint: the key word is "contributed"):

Have u ever contributed to an academic or at least a respectful discourse? U have no idea what u're supposed to be doing on a discussion board.......

To keep on track:

I appreciate the song, but it needs something je ne sais quoi to be above average.

Snap, mine 2! biggrin Love how it's quite a dark song, but he sounds so passionate in it & clearly gets across his frustrations about the situation. Thing is he is Prince! Why the hell did he just not get this person right back there in his arms if that's what he wanted? confuse Really love the scream/sing at the start. Sounds almost like he's yelling a name!
