do you realize that 99% of modern (post-40s) pop/rock stars came from a "normal" background (high-school graduates, college dropouts, etc, PRINCE INCLUDED) ?

you have completely missed my point

you must be american........

I don't know a fuck about NG's issues. But in Prince's case that is utterly true.

NG is a poor man who had his morning glory with his poor revival in the britpop years.

Or should I say britpoop?

Oasis have always been shite.
composition skills are null.

They clearly recycle old stuff without even a pretence of originality.

The success is due to the clever marketing.

I like the straight-forward way he has of presenting himself, but in this way he's nothing like prince.

In 1 interview he's even admitted that the Stone Roses were a better band, with no buts and ifs.

can you imagine Prince going about thing in the same way?

small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

The only similarity I can think of is that they both thought they were The Beatles after their most successful record. lol

I don't agree with some of the others that Noel Gallagher is "talentless". But, yeah, they couldn't be more different. Noel Gallagher made straightforward rock for people that hang out in pubs and do not really want to trifle their heads by heaving to deal with and themes such as ambiguous sexuality and are probably turned off by strange arrangements in the music. Prince makes music that you can actually dance to and a lot of his stuff was made to appeal to outsiders and freaks. Noel Gallagher has also relied on others to perform and execute his compositions, whereas Prince doesn't need to rely on anyone. Furthermore, Noel Gallagher was a drug addict for years and was open about it too. We know Prince's attitude towards such things.

Very, very different individuals and artists.

I'm not much of an Noel/Oasis/HFB fan, but I will say this for him - he really knows what he's doing when it comes to layering guitar tracks. In that respect he is similar to Prince - except his layering talent is with vocals.

Actually I am a fan - but not of his music - I love seeing/hearing him being interviewed - he's witty, intelligent and entertaining. If he were to do a 'standing on stage and talking bollocks for a couple of hours' type show, ala Henry Rollins, I'd be there in a flash.

Most accurate and fairest comment. By the way, i've never understood why people say Oasis is a rip-off band, the only song they've blatantly ripped off is Get it On for Cigarettes & Alcohol, and even then that is only the guitar riff...

I don't mean to be rude but go and listen to some music. Beatles, Stones, shit anything 60s & 70s. Especially, Beatles and the ridiculous Status Quo. Then listen to Noel and his four chords and Little Liams' Sunsheeeiiiiiiiiiiineeee nasal spray. This might help you understand. I didn't mind, it was good singalong shit at the time but a million miles from Prince in every respect.

Just my opinion o course.

My favourite Oasis moment? About 01:29

prince fits the genius tag way more easily and obviously

just saying

I dunno, Noel is known for being down to earth and willing to talk honestly about anything in an interview. Prince is very much the opposite.

Noel was well into his drugs for quite a while, prince has taken little to none (leaving aside those org threads for the moment).

There's been a certain amount of macho posturing from both of them at various points though...

there are no similarities between Prince and noel gallagher at all..Prince will blow noel gallagher and the entire oasis entourage out of the fucking water. oasis is a RACIST BAND. I know because I posted a Prince thread on their official oasis website back in 2006 and there were so many fans posting RACIST comments with the no word, a picture of the kkk burning a cross, and someone even posted " THIS IS FORUM FOR WHITE PEOPLE SO FUCK OFF" and I reported it to their moderators and the did NOTHING and I was one of the biggest oasis fans EVER but not anymore.

Oasis is one of the few bands I truly loath. They both may have had this upbringing childhood coincidences, but I hope it stops there.

Noel Gallagher? Prince has more in common with Paul Weller...

Both born in 1958

Both Geminis

Released debut albums in 1977

Split their bands at the top of their game (The Revolution/The Jam)

Started their own labels (Paisley Park/Respond)
Published poetry

Similar influences in jazz, soul, funk

Both married their backing singers

etc etc

Oasis aren't racist, some of their fans are.
Oasis don't run their website, moderators do it for them.

I don't give two shits about Oasis, but I'm kind of doubtful Noel is leafing through the messages on his myspace page, it was probably set up by the record company or PR department.

The mods should've done something but they didn't, which makes them shitheads, but that's about it.
