I was a Prince fan as a kid because my mom totally dug him. We lived in Minneapolis. Fuck Welcome 2 America. Why would think I liked Welcome 2 America just because I criticized Cat's rap? What the fuck. Get a hold of yourself. I don't care how fresh Cat sounded at the time. Good for her. But the rap is cheesy as shit and hadn't stood the test of time as well as the rest of the album. Did you even read my other posts on this thread where I say how I think Alphabet St is a masterpiece and I love Lovesexy? I make one critique of Cat's shitty rap and your vagina gets all itchy. Good lord.

I don't have a vagina so it's pretty hard that it gets itchy.

but I'll do what you said, I won't take your posts seriously anymore from now on, shouldn't be that hard

Prince only used the rap caused he thought it sounded funky. Its not a good rap in the technical sense, but its not a rap songs and its just plain funky, I like it. The hokeyness fits in with the song.

Lighten up.

As I wrote in the St. Paul concert thread the truth is negative.

Can't you read my posts wher I said I love Lovesexy? Get a clue.

Loving lovesexy is not enough after posting this thread.

You should declare you actually like Cat's contributions to the album.

And I should reiterate, it's a good album. about 3 years ago I found my cassette and played it over and over for the first time in years and Prince still had the one thing he had at his peak, that vibrant, bustling energy. The production, I remember saying this before, but the production was about as crisp and clean as anything I've ever heard, I don't know how or why he got that sound but those were all plusses. As good as 1999, Purple Rain, Parade or Sott? I don't think so, better than the rest up to that point though and pretty damned good.

I like both of them, I never looked at it as imitating the rap genre, prob more like the old 1970 early 80s party MC raps

The beat won't stop with the JM Jock.

If he jacks the box and the partyrocks.

The clock tick tocks and the place gets hot.

So ease your mind and set yourself free.

To that mystifying music they call the key". -Music Is The Key, JM Silk,

Music is the key 2 set yourself free
From depression, drugs and increasing poverty
The key is 2 the lock, the lock is on the door
The door has a knob that u've never turned before
The jack, use the jack, it opens up the lock
Cuz there's the key 2 unlock the body
Place it like that 2 open up the door
The door 2 the house full of people galore
The beat won't stop 'til the JM jocks
And he jacks the box 'til the party rocks
The clock tick-tocks and the place gets hot
And believe it or not, all the troubles u forgot
It's just that easy if u want it 2 be
For all the fellas, and the young ladies
So ease your mind and set yourself free
2 the mystifying music that we call Cindy C

Thank you, OF4S! But the Alphabet St. rap she does is schweet too.

Splanknasty

Anyone who doesn't like Cat's rhyme on that tune doesn't remember, or simply never got, just how much of a spiritual, unhinged party on plastic that album was.

This was before Tony M blighted Prince's career. Don't look back in the light of those knobheads.

Look forward from Sign o' the Times and The Black Album.

We didn't know what appalling rappers would do to Prince's ouvre. We just had the colours, the rhythms, the lyrics and the tunes of a record that sounded like nothing else.

Cat rapped on it. It was awesome. I love that rap and I'll fight with fists anyone who doesn't like it.

(Please note I won't actually fight. But that rap was AWESOME.)

I knew she did something sexual and would joke about it for years smile Glad to know I wasn't far off....and it happened to be letter number 7, and like missing the G spot of the song

Bob George and Dead On It were brilliant and his best attempts at rap.

I also love the way he raps/talks at the beginning of Irresistible Bitch.

Does anyone know if the Robin Power rap from the Graffiti Bridge film is floating around somewhere?

That beat was HOT! it sounded like a variation of Elephants & Flowers with the sexy turned WAY up.

Awww whatever... We're all different and have different tastes...

Personally, Lovesexy is one of my favorite Prince albums and I prefer it over stuff like ATWIAD and Parade which I can't get into at all with exception of about 3 or 4 songs. And I prefer Prince's "over produced" music, to his minimalist early 80's sound.. but hey, we like what we like...

Cat's rap doesn't bother me in the least... If there are parts of Prince's songs or records I don't like, I simply ignore them and move on.

No. No, we don't. That's okay, Cat. You can sit down. Every time I hear that part I wish that somehow Cat would just say, "No thanks, Prince. I'll sit this one out."

You're not serious about this, are you?

Checked your profile and you're to young the have experienced the Lovesexy album, but if you don't like that rap, you really don't get Prince in the 80's. I wish you had experienced it, than you wouldn't be saying a thing like this. Remember, rap wasn't very big those days.

Cat was on fire during Lovesexy.

You don't see that kind of energy in music these says. The madness.

You wouldn't be saying, Cat, you can sit down, because she would tear you down.

It's good to look in the future, but don't talk down of the past. I didn't experience the 70's, but i can see how much was going on in that time and appreciate it.

Maybe you think Welcome 2 America is exciting? Think again.

Well Said!!

I haven't been on this site for a little while now and part of that is because there hasn't been too much exciting stuff happening in the world of Prince lately. I was at the Lovesexy gigs here in London which I still say were the best concerts I have ever been to of any artist. The thing with Cat's rap is that it's not meant to be something perfect or serious but in fact a reflection of the super confidence and positive vibe around Prince after he had the self doubt of the Black Album. As the saying goes .... You had to be there...

I concur with your statement because the human ear has a way of shutting that whole thing down when it happens. Lol!

To Prince's defense, if it means anything since the rap is still there, he yells (or rather the sample is played of) "NNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO", after the first time they ask Ms. Cat to rap. Lol.

interesting observation, wonder if he was intentionally spurning the rap or just saying no. Good album, but the one thing I think most of us can agree on is that his fashion was starting to get a little too far out there. Just look at the program for Lovesexy. His fashion was more apt to miss a beat after his prime years. His 1999,Purple Rain, Parade and Sott dress codes were fantastic.
