Back in the 90's a co-worker pulled up to our work place jammin' to "Now" from The Gold Experience. I about flipped out! Later on in the day I hooked up with him and found out that he was a fellow purple hippy. Since then we have attended concerts, The Vibe Show, exchanged music and was even interviewed together about why we like Prince by our local news station when P was in town here in Fresno. Its cool to hook up with others who are just as knowledgeable. klick

Very cool indeed cool

i stayed in a dodgy hotel couple of weeks ago, 1980's refurb stylee, immaculate but so old fashioned lol at breakfast time, every morning pavrotti/the tennors/ kath jenkins over the speakers, fhhjjf&ing torture!!

but one morning we got purple rain. it felt surreal like the opera had finally sent us insane & having a mental moment..

the cool thing that happened was that as we twigged & realised that it was actually prince on the stereo, we heard another couple exclaim 'yes!! prince!!'

prince fans lurk all over the place, even in back of beyond

A couple of months back, some friends drunk dialed me from a bar to tell me that Prince music was playing non-stop. Don't know if they were just teasing me since the only song they know is Purple Rain, but I woke up in the morning to, like, 3 drunken voicemails and 5 texts. lol As for meeting another fan in the flesh, hasn't happened yet. confused

I'll pass on the drunk texting & calling lol every now and then I will drunk Org though boxed

I'm heavily involved in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and it's a HUGE organization (27,000 volunteers). There's one group of high-society girls that are really, REALLY cool. They make a lot of money, they give a TON of money to charity, and they're always in the newspaper.

Their theme song is "P Control".

They are big-time Prince fans and collectors.

You could have knocked me over with a feather when I heard them request "P Control" at a party a couple years ago. Heck, several of them used it as their ringtone!

You just never know.

Rich chicks & P Control who would've thought it could happen lol Houston is kinda wild I hear lol

I've told this story here before, but I always like to share it...

My first wife was called on stage to dance at the 2000 Celebration concert at Northrup. She was so excited that when she tried to step over the barrier to walk up to the stage, she slipped and almost fell. When she got to the steps that led up to the stage, Prince walked halfway down, grabbed her hand and then walked her the rest of the way back up. I saw him ask her something and she smiled really big, nodded her head, and I could tell she said, "Yes." Then he hugged her, turned, walked away and went about his business.

When I asked her what he said, she said, "He asked me if I was okay." I always thought that was really nice of him. Simple, but nice.

She died a few years ago, so it's nice to relate this memory now and again...I know it meant a lot to her.

This is so beautiful it needs to be on the homepage wink

I had a random Prince event the other day. Not meeting someone that loves his music as I do but someone that once spoke to him.

I was walking out of work with headphones on when I saw our sales director. He asked what I was listening to and I said Prince of course! He asked if I was a big fan and I said yes, then he said that he spoke to him once...

He worked in the music industry for years, so this little fact didn't come as a complete shock but was still a surprise. He was working as an engineer in a studio where Mathilda May was working and she was a one time girlfriend of Prince. While there the phone rang and my guy answered it, to find someone asking for Mathilda. He said she was busy and he could take a message, but the caller said it was ok, he'd call back.

When he gave news of the call to Mathilda, she asked who it was and he said the caller didn't leave a name. She askled if it was an American guy and he said yes, so Mathilda says, "do you know who that was?", my man was oblivious and she told him it was Prince. Nothing too exciting but pretty cool. He then went on to tell how she told him a Prince story about, which actually was pretty cool.

She was at Prince's place and was sitting around all day while Prince was working out a new piece on the piano. She said he worked on it for the whole day, tinkering with it, developing it, really putting in the time.

The next day some record company peeps were round to see Prince and how things were coming. They're listening to stuff and Prince says, "This needs something... I have an idea, let's see if I can quickly work something out". And off he trots to the piano, sits down and plays out the part he'd spent most of the previous day developing! The record company peeps agreed it was perfect and were astounded by his genius.

It takes a lot of hard work to be as spontaneous as Prince!

Sadly he had no idea what the piece was or what album it was for, but I thought it was a pretty cool story smile.

tx cool story

A couple of weeks ago I received a phone call like many other calls from one of my kids. The request was the same as it had been so many times over the last decade or so biggrin

Always out of the blue, many times in the middle of the night, I would be asked to verify the many times that I saw Prince play live. Always, the person on the other end of the line would be almost begging, drooling for details. This most current call confirmed that some of the younger generation realizes the magnificence of Prince and his music. The latest one I spoke to about this was introduced to me, who then immediately told me that he thinks that Prince is the most excellent guitar player alive!!

I thought that the kids would be over it by now, but the excitement in their voices told me otherwise.

So the begging would begin, 'please mom, please tell this guy .....or gal about those times you witnessed Prince bringing magic to the stage!!' Please!!!

So whether in a deep sleep, in the middle of the day, driving, working outside or just doing dishes, how could I refuse? Especially when I'd hear my loved one say "please Mom, this really means a lot to me" and then I'd say "okay" put them on the phone. And away we'd go to those cherished memories of nights I'll never forget. It amazes me each time how interested, how genuine and how grateful these kids are just to talk to someone who saw Prince play live guitar

^^ Thanks for that!

I'm enjoying all the new stories since I last visited. I'd been in Hawai'i for 10 days and took no laptop/ipad on purpose.

I have never met a real live Prince fan. Ever.

sad

I have met one too many people who have a visceral reaction that they "dislike" or "hate" him. Yet they have all been happy grooving to "Kiss' during kiss-cam and probably partied to "1999."

Yeah until I started working with him I had never met a real live fan either lol it feels kinda weird to actually talk to somebody who likes him lol

Yes, sometimes I think all the org'ers posting here must be actually just 2-3 people, 'cause I can't believe there are really Prince fans out there. I know he does draw people to concerts, but I find it hard to believe anyone cares to read news about him or hear all his songs.
