Same thing with hitting marks. I'd imagine that if you want to find Prince making a mistake onstage, your best chance is looking for a missed mark back when he did elaborate dances with the Game Boys, etc.

The only lyrics mistake that really sticks out to me is him transposing the lyrics to "The Holy River" on "Oprah". But he was so smooth that unless you knew the song, you'd never know it was a mistake.

He and his band make more mistakes than just lyrics, but they really do recover well. I got a hold of one of the bootlegs of one of the shows I went to, and I noticed a couple fairly serious/obvious mistakes that I didn't notice live. I'd feel bad pointing them out though, like I was revealing a magician's secret or something.

The experience kinda put me off bootlegs... at least boots of shows I've been to...

The only time I've seen him pissed was at one of the P Park mini concerts he was doing in the 90's. I think the band was missing too many cues or something because he just stopped singing, walked to one side of the stage and with all their eyes on him, he was just throwing up hand cues. He didn't seem too happy to be doing it.

It was when he was just starting to play with the new band after the Morris, Tommy, Sonny and Michael era.

I think thats what happened at the Ivy aftershow during ICNTTPOUM - leading to that great solo. It seems he got shitty when he looked up and saw all those phones sticking up at him duing the solo.

At 2:30 of the song, Prince tells the ladies to sing the second verse but they don't. Eight beats of the song are played with no vocals, so Prince IMMEDIATELY goes in another direction and breaks down the song to the bass line, and then starts a huge party. Incredible.

THAT is a professional.

during the act 1 tour at radio city prince took a big fall during scandalous

same tour in toronto during the max he went 2 step on the side of the stage and took a missed step

in the america video he cues for the band 2 stop and wendy strikes another note and he shoots "the look"

during the sign o' the times tour in holland he calls for the kickdrum and then calls 4 the cue of cold sweat on the horns and sheila starts hitting the snare drum and he yells "i didn't call shit just kickdrum!"

his guitar died right at the Lets Go Crazy solo in Sydney on 11/5/12 - just over a week ago....he threw it at the technician and kept going..but he was pissed - he then proceeded to play LRC without the usual guitar bits.... it was an obvious f-up and I bet the guitar technician is still paying for it (I imagine the battery went dead but don't know what was wrong...the guitar just died...Prince was stomping on pedals/turning knobs on the guitar..then he took it off and just threw it LOL)....but he played for 3 hours that night...

Not a Prince mistake, but he was getting angry:

Detroit, summer 1997 Jam Of The Year concert: you could see stagehands trying to hang something behind Prince. I remember thinking it was some kind of either projection screen or possibly a netting with lights on it. Could've been the . Regardless, it didn't work and Prince was visibly upset. Finally, they just scapped the whole idea and stopped trying to hang whatever it was.

Side note, same concert: that outdoor concert venue has an 11pm cutoff for concerts because of the surrounding residents. Prince played over just a bit and got on the mic and said "I wanna keep playing but the cops are making us leave". He seemed disappointed for US, because it seemed like he wanted to make up for the time that was spent trying to hang that backdrop.

I think that happens often. I've been to several shows where it has.

1984 birthday show: tries to start singing "when doves cry" and doesn't remember how it starts. mumbles a few sounds and asks the audience if they have heard it before. calls for crowd clapping and the opening lead line. tries to start again and doesn't come in right. says "come on ya'll, you know it's gonna get right!"

LOVE IT.

but the initial screw up is priceless. you can literally hear a mumble/moan/sigh thing.

Back in the mid-90's (I think '94) his performance of Peach at a club. Mayte stage diving drove him over the edge. He was pissed. You can see it in his face in the video as he kicks her off the stage to finish the song. Turned out to be a great performance though. LOL!
