well id thought id pop in after all these years after someone told me about this thread. had to re resigster as id forgotten my log in!!

what memories huh? its just crazy thinking about the ona tour and also the 21 nights tour. No sleep, no alcohol (for me anyway...otherwise id crash) , waiting in queues, dashing to after parties...spending time with fellow fans. hi to you all again....yay!!!

it was me who sang the "lovely" version of girls and boys on in the soundcheck. ill admit not my finest moment. yep..unique encouraged me to get up......but manic monday i didnt know too well....so as id recored a demo of girls and boys a few weeks prior id thought id be cheeky and ask the man if we could do that one. no intention of being arrogant at all! of course i then forgot the first line....come on.....its prince! it was fun though, got through it and of course did the moves for the dance. its a memory i wish cherish and has probably helped to make me be the artist i am today. ...yep i make it a norm to fux up something in every show. wink

ive been lucky to have a few interations with prince....generally dancing on stage.....some chats in clubs and even a phone call. im not bragging...so many people have similiar stories....just sharing a crazy time of my life. Prince is an inspiration as a performer to me. not a god....not someone who i crush on. just as an artist....and perfomer...incredible. i havent been to a show of his for a while, i guess life took over, but of course reminicing is fab!

There's some awesome people who have Prince in common and will be forever tied in time. Great to know each of you and wouldn't change the friendships formed over the years for nothing in the world. FOr that I say: Thank You to Prince for bringing us together

Great! Both the singers of "Manic Monday" and "Girls & Boys" (you) have showed up here! Thanks, org! I heard the clip on YT.

You sang it very well, including the French parts. You are an entertainer/singer? What an awesome, awesome, experience! If you want to reminisce some more, feel free to post!

I took a listen, and it's quite good! It's an enjoyable disco-fied version. http://www.myspace.com/mi...er=POPULAR

Btw (and I'm a hetero female, so don't be spooked), you are gorgeous! How in the world didn't Prince snap you up in a second? Did he give you the eye at least? Also, are you Indian, 'cause in a thread titled "Things P should try at least once," I mentioned he ought to try bhangra. You could have been the protege for that project, lol!

Thanks for posting!

well i think whenever i met him or interacted with him i always saw him as the artist he is. the first time i got called on stage in birmingham...he called me the "little cute one at the front"...but he always has girlfriends..and as i said i never saw him that way. Whether he remember me who knows..he see thousands of ppl in theses tours...and of course id like to think he picked me to dance each time knowing i wont try and jump him...as from previous occasion.s. i just wanna dance smile. but idoubt it, its pure luck and being there at the right time. it was a great ride...definetely. when he called it was just before he was to do the most beautiful girl in the world video..and it was tommy barbarella who asked for my number cos they were looking for ppl for the video. but when p did call.....but it was a general sweet conversation about music and art and performance. i was young then what do i know! hehehe. ive never been a pushy type..and go with the flow and take opportunities as they come.

im sure hes tried indian music in some studio somehwhere..its so manistream now theres no way a composer of music wouldnt have tried something like that already.

you knoe its wierd talking about all this so many years after. like it was anotehr life!

Prince smells like lavender! biggrin

It's you! hug

Since I got your name from the nice people here, I did a search and found some old threads about your stint on stage with Prince. Besides smelling like lavender, is there anything more you can share? Was he smiling at you? Were you nervous (you sounded great, by the way!)? Why did you sing "kissing someone else" not "kissing Valentino" - were those the words he gave you? Did he shake your hand? I don't think I would have had the nerve to do it, though I'd probably kick myself afterwards if I'd passed it up.

Do tell!

I don't think I changed the words, but I do know I got hung up on the word "Italian".

The story from my end. A few of the days that we were at Paisley Park (7 total nights) they did karaoke outside of the studio while we were waiting in line. The first day they did Karaoke, 4 of us went up (I think it was the second day we were there, because the 1st day it rained). We were all singing, but in the end the others backed away and it was just me, which was interesting, but hey I knew I could sing so I was flattered. The second day Damon (I think it was Damon - Defintely one of the Game Boyz), who was hosting the events pulled me out of line and I sang again...I think I sang I feel for you. The rest of the week was mostly just chilled out. Spent some time in the studio listening to the guest speakers, spent some time hanging with new friends, etc. etc.

One day I was in the annex off of one of the studios when I saw Prince walk past the stain glass door (I could tell who he was by his shadow). I was talking to one of the guys who was part of his security detail. I remember saying something like, there he goes, and all of a sudden the shadow stopped, the door opened and I stood there...frozen. I was standing in his path, as I had been looking at the door, and he was headed into the studio. The only thing I could say was "Hey". He smiled and walked past me.

Fast Foward to the last night (June 27, 2002). And some how my friends end up sitting in the second row but I end up sitting in the first. He pulls up some people to dance to Shake, and I was pretty bummed as I really wanted up on the stage (it was Prince, I was a singer and hey it was my dream since I was 8)! smile Next thing you know he asks if there are any singers. I so wanted to sing that I screamed "ME" and actually roughed up my vocal cords (which you can hear in the performance - someone did hook me up with a copy). He went over to where Damon was (who was a few seats down from me) who I believe pointed him my way (Damon was the one who put me in the front row when we were being seated). So I think it was planned by Prince...but for the record I had NO CLUE to his plans. Their were rumors that he was keeping an eye on what was going on outside during the week, which would explain how I ended up on stage, but it could have really been as random as it seemed...only Prince knows. Anyway, Prince walks over points at me and says "you sing" and I said yes, but looked around as I truly thought I was hallucinating and he must be talking to someone else! So I go up, still fully expecting him to say "Not you, the person behind you" HAHA. I had a small wallet/tote and put it up on the keyboard, which he was sitting behind. He asked me questions and we kept handing the microphone back and forth (which is why I giggled at some point - we were playing pass the mic). He asked me if I was nervous and my response was "a little bit". So he shows me what song I am going to sing, which was on the lyric book on his keyboard. I was super stoked because it was a song I use to open with when I use to host Karaoke night at a local club, so I had it memorized. I was nervous, which is why I went in to the song earlier than I was suppose to...but the band was great and kept up with me! As I said I was nervous so I got hung up on the word Italian (not sure why Italian, but hey my Best Friend is a huge Prince Fan and is Italian, so maybe subconsciencely that was why). The second verse comes up, and I look back at him. He goes to point out the second verse lyrics, but I went straight into them. My friend told me later that he pretended to throw away the lyric book. So we get through the second verse, and he ends the song. I walked over to give him his microphone back and grab my wallet. He actually hugged me (Yes a hug, not a handshake). I left the stage and he went into Soul Santuary.

For anyone who wants to know what he was wearing, he was wearing the same stage outfit that he wore when he sang Sometimes it Snows in April, on the Prince in the "Prince Live at the Aladdin Las Vegas" video.

And that is my Prince story!!! One I will never forget!

Thank you for this amazing account! Sounds like those were great times for a Prince fan. You sang this at the Celebration. What I heard was sung by a fan in London - and that fan has come forward with her account (see above).

So lovely to have discovered you all.

Great story's..great memories. I got a chance to sing with P and the band at the Houston stop on the ONA Tour. I'm a guy..he basically asked if anyone knew the words to last December..I stood up and said yes and he called me up to the stage. funny thing is It took like a full 2 minutes to recruit a few other peeps onstage...I mean you would have thought they would have been lining up! Now I can't sing worth a shit but who cares on a night like that right?

Lot of great stories from that night...we walk into the Verizon Center..grab the 1st three rows and the band is jammin on stage. Out from nowhere you here this really deep voice callin out instructions, chord progressions...but you never see Prince on stage. Something tells me to turn around and there he is probably 12 rows back from the stage...alone, no bodyguard working over the band. So he does this for another couple of minutes and you know we trying not stare and shit....So a few minutes pass people still filing in and Prince just starts strolling down the isle to the stage. Dude bumps in to some chick..she doesn't even pay attention just keeps movin trying to find her a good seat! Chick had no clue?!

What a freakin show..after the sound check Prince calls me back to the stage and gives me a Jehovas witness book. The end!

Thanks for the memory! How nice and unique of him to do these soundchecks and letting fans do karaoke w/ the band! And probably you were the ONLY one who knew the words to "Last December" - no wonder there wasn't a line to sing! lol

I have so many great memories of the ONA tour and the Celebration in 2002. The Columbus, OH show in March 2002, when Prince pulled my friend and me onstage with about seven other lucky fans and we got to watch the show from behind the band and he gave us free t-shirts!! A week later in Louisville, KY during the soundcheck my cellphone rang while Prince was talking and I was so embarassed I had him answer it and my daughter hung up on him cuz she didnt know who the strange man was that was on the phone. Another friend of mine got to play the Hohner at this same soundcheck and we all went onstage and sang Last December....so kewl!!

Finally the trip to Paisley Park that summer and the nite Prince took us to the movies...that was so awesome....I remember it all like it was yesterday.....I remember Connie singing Manic Monday....I remember acoustic nite when Prince said in a heartfelt moment thanks to us all that have stuck by him thru all the years....I remember the nite I first saw him play Empty Room.....I cried.....I remember drawing on the parking lot the chorus to Anna Stesia.....I remember walking down that main hallway where all the awards and gold records hang on the wall....and in the front lobby the Oscar!! I remember when me and my friends followed the Purple Prowler to the grocery store and took pics of it....hehehehe....So many good times and great memories

i planned to see minority report when i came back from mpls, so imagine the look on my friends face when i came back and told him i'd already seen it as prince took us to the movies. that was before i told him we went at 2am wearing pyjamas, following prince's limo in a convoy round chanhassen

i'm pretty sure people think i just make these stories up, but you'd need a fucking crazy mind to imagine half the shit that goes on

i planned to see minority report when i came back from mpls, so imagine the look on my friends face when i came back and told him i'd already seen it as prince took us to the movies. that was before i told him we went at 2am wearing pyjamas, following prince's limo in a convoy round chanhassen

i'm pretty sure people think i just make these stories up, but you'd need a fucking crazy mind to imagine half the shit that goes on

I am sure people still think I am crazy and must be making things up! Good thing there is proof (Well of the singing anyway). I am sure people still think I am lying when I mention he took us to the movies...in our PJ's.

Unique & ConnieC - why were you all wearing pajamas? You're at a concert at Paisley, so wouldn't you be dressed?

thanks for that link: http://www.prince.org/msg...;tid=10292

I see why you linked it - 'tho I believe you (and all the fans who have come forward), you wanted proof to your story, 'cause it's so incredible! Props to you! It's great that you linked it because then I found lots of other great stories in those threads about those soundchecks, in Oakland, in Texas, etc. Great, great stuff, which I hadn't seen before when I first googled ONA soundcheck. Love these stories - it seems to have been a wonderful, special time.

On a side note, I reposted your link so that people can click directly to it. When I did a copy and paste, as I mentioned I got other threads that mention your thread. It's all good though - there were great stories from the tour. Also I got other info I wasn't particularly looking for, but was very interesting - like that Prince was pimping big time during the Gold era, he was gettin' with young women left and right (LoveLeft Love Right, eh?), including gals that org'ers knew... hmmm...

that night was pyjama party night. sheila e played at paisley, followed by a laid back set by prince

it was absolutely roasting during the summer and they had these huge black curtains put up around the soundstage of paisley. problem is they blocked the AC which caused it to break down, so the heat was sweltering. it was so hot they booked the cinema and we went there, following prince's limo. we were in the car right behind the limo as our car was parked in the staff area. i thought it was a decoy and prince wasn't actually in it, but he was. i saw prince get his own popcorn from the counter. i later saw sheila e and rhonda and other band members came in and walk past me

i didn't actually wear PJ's as i've not owned a pair since i was about 8 years old so i wore cream linen trousers and shirt, like i was starring in miami vice

Free T-shirts! - not $77? lol Great memories, thanks for sharing them.
