Man, how did you hear all that in there?

I think you are adding way to much to that, they said nothing of the sort

Here are some quotes from the interview:

“The first Time album was just Lisa and him, [Then Morris would come in and do his vocal]”

“The only thing he could think of doing was getting rid of the thing he was relying on the most which was me and Lisa”

“He sent us skeletons of songs and Wendy and I would make the track. I think he just really felt “where am I? What am I doing? I need to regroup””

“He just thought “look I can't ask you guys to take a step back now””

I don’t think my interpretation is far-fetched at all.

Yeah I think it is. Prince did use Lisa Coleman a lot when she came on board.
Vocally and on her syth/piano/keyboards. It's not a big leap to believe Prince was using her a lot on the first Time album

Lisa has always really upfront and factual about the music, and if a song was all Prince she has and will say that.

He was relying on Lisa & Wendy a lot doing a lot of studio work for him. Especially in the 1985/1986 years

Prince has said some similar things in interviews about juggling his friendship with them and being a boss.

Ooops ok I just realized we are going into a totally different discussion from the original topic.

I think someone made reference to another posting in the Associates thread with the interview and we are now talking about it here.

I think we should transfer the conversation over there, before we turn the thread into something else.

the conersation is changing from the original topic to the interview found in the Associate Artists forums.

Please, let's cease any further discussion on Lisa Coleman & Wendy Melvoin taken from that interview, and continue it there. Here is the link for the discussion.

Thanks

Who is going to sing all of Prince’s parts at this “reunion” show? Morris Day?

Various band members sang at The Family Jamm when the Revolution reunited there. It sounded great.

It certainly did. That Sheila E impression of Morris gets me every time I think of that show.

Due to the fact I cannot go to this show, Prince will probably be there. It will also feature a special guest apparence by David Bowie, who will be handing out talking cats to everyone in attendance.

If I could attend, The Revolution would cancel, leaving Tony M to try his best to make a show out of his now rusty rapping skills and a kazoo.

I mean EXACTLY what I said...just because Booby Z is feeling it doesn't mean the the MAGIC that was The Revolution which Prince rehearsed the hell out of decades ago would gel onstage after all that has gone down in the years since.

Other bands that broke-up and got back together have been mentioned in reference but the comparisons aren't necessarily fair. Take The Police- it was Stewart's band and yeah Sting was known to be quite ego-centric but the smartest move he could have made at the point in his solo career when he was playing a lute and hiding behind that unsexy beard was to reunite the rock band that was #1 when he walked away. His solo career had gotten stale and he needed the infusion. Besides those guys were like brothers and the bond developed by touring the US in a van binds you in a way that nothing else can for a band as did the knock-down-drag-out fights they had...I know this because Sting...yeah that one told me himself during "The Blue Turtles Tour".

So as cool as it would be to see The Revolution take to the stage in total, I for one (and I say this as my best friends, brother and ex-husband are professional musicians) don't think that all that has gone on in the years since would just evaporate, let them CONNECT and PLAY! And that would be very sad indeed. So excuse me while they live in my memory in all their GLORY and I don't get bent out of shape if they don't take to the stage together. As much as I dug The Revolution, I was one of those hoping for reunion with Dez and Andre and them playing small clubs and me getting to hang out during soundcheck again... sad Finally gave that up sometime during the MnM-NPG years...LOL

And I repeat...

Besides no one knows how he has shown support for Bobby Z...because there have been posts about Prince needing to show up as that was his way to show support for Bobby. I am willing to bet that the support for Bobby that Prince has shown has not been revealed in its entirety and it does not have to be in a way that someone other than the 2 old friends decide.

bah humbug, party pooper shoo flie shoo lol

lol You're just lookin' for a dust up but I ain't mad at ya...cause I can tell you get where I'm coming from...whether you agree or not. We cool .

I don’t think my interpretation is far-fetched at all.

It's not far-fetched, they did say all those things, but it is stretching what they said in one direction as far as possible - I heard all that too and took a totally different opinion of what they said.

I didn't interpret what they said as "Prince and Lisa created the Time album equally, then Morris came in to sing", we all know the writing credits etc, so I it's not like they were trying to hoodwink anyone.

They did work on skeletal and unfinished songs on their own.

From the rest, I thought it was the most humble and forgiving of Prince I've ever heard from them with regards to the split - Prince needing to regroup and take things back more himself is what happened, and I can see how since they became important contributors, asking them to go back to a smaller role would've created more friction and been hard for everyone - so I think this is a really fair assessment from the girls - I've heard them be much more pointed on the subject in the (distant) past.

That's what I got from it any way, it was fun and friendly from what I heard.

I thought they ment taking at step back (i.e regressing) artistically, not stepping back in their role as contributors. I guess your interpretation is better than mine:) English is not my first language boxed

Exactly, this whole thread is pure speculation and misinterpretation on everyone's part. We are all guessing as to who is doing what and what did they really mean when they said "this" or "that".

So 4 me personally, I don't want him to show up 4 the simple fact that I am not going to be there. Pure Selfishness on my part, but what's a girl to do, but hate on those that are able to attend biggrin

I just don't think any of this stuff is ultimately going to matter in whether Prince comes to the concert (the original thread topic). It's hardly a big news flash that there were various creative differences in the original group that led them to split up.

I don't know if anyone has thought about this angle, but Prince may simply be concerned about how the group will sound, with or without him, after not having played together for so many years. One thing we know about Prince is that he wants to have everything sound just right, and of course he knows that expectations for a Prince and the Revolution reunion at First Avenue would be through the roof. If he's not secretly rehearsing with them right now, I don't think he will play through the whole concert: not to spite anyone, but just because it isn't his show and he doesn't know how he would fit in with whatever they're planning to do. Think about his infamous James Brown/MJ cameo appearance, for example. I'm sure he doesn't want a repeat of that. However, I can imagine him showing up to join in for one song at the end, and if he likes the vibe, who knows what could happen from there? We just won't know until Sunday night, though it's fun to speculate.

I agree 100%. Maybe he will use this time to see what the band can brinbg to the table after all these years or maybe just simple he wants the Revolution to shine on their own. My whole thing is people should respect whatever decision he makes. And please do not spew any negative hate on the man come Monday morning cuz he didn't show up/play. I know that's probably asking alot from Prince fans on a Prince fan site, lol.

I don't think there will be any hate spewing from people who get to see the show, whether Prince comes or not. I've only seen Prince in concert once, in 1988 when I was 14. I've never seen the Revolution live and I'm thrilled that I will get the chance.

Has "A Place in Heaven" ever been performed live? Either way, that would be a neat addition to the setlist.

There is a longer story on the Star Tribune now that I don't see posted here yet:

http://www.startribune.co...81378.html

Here's the beginning:

Bobby Z's heart stopped. Twice. In the hospital. His family was summoned. So was his rabbi. But Z survived.

Now, 12 months later, he is drumming, producing and celebrating with the band that made him famous, Prince & the Revolution. Sunday night at First Avenue, the "Purple Rain"-era lineup will reunite -- Dr. Fink, Brownmark, Wendy & Lisa and Bobby Z.

And Prince? "Out of respect, he might not come," Z said. "It's not a dis, it's the opposite."

Over the years, the Revolution has discussed getting together, but "schedules got busy and -- someday, someday, someday," said keyboardist Lisa Coleman. "We could have lost Bobby and lost the chance. It made us say: No more waiting."

Their only reunion was in 2003 when the Revolution, sans Prince, did a cameo performance at a Los Angeles charity gig organized by Sheila E.

"It seemed so natural," Coleman said. "We just counted off one of the songs. I think they're so ingrained in our bodies."

To prepare for the First Ave show, the band has conducted meetings via e-mail -- Z calls it "virtually rehearsing" -- but the players also were getting together this weekend to practice in a Twin Cities studio.

It's a far cry from the 1980s, when Prince played the role of demanding drill sergeant at rehearsals that would stretch for hours.

This time, guitarist Wendy Melvoin will handle the bulk of the lead vocals.

"I'm going to interpret them in my own little way," she said in a conference call with Coleman last week from Los Angeles. "I'm not going to try to sound like [Prince] at all.

She's not holding out for Prince to show up, either. "He is not really sentimental" about anything, Melvoin said, including the group that disbanded in late 1986 after touring in support of his second movie, "Under the Cherry Moon."

But he was quick to call Z's wife, Vicki, after the drummer's heart attack, as Coleman pointed out: "He offered a lot of support and love to Bobby."

This thread makes me think of this 1990 delusional interview with Prince

The Time, Prince says, is proof of the good that can come from a group dissolving and eventually coming back together. "They broke up because they'd run out of ideas," he says. "They went off and did their own thing, and now they're terrifying."

Prince said this formula was just what he had in mind when, in short order, he broke up the Revolution. "I felt we all needed to grow," he says. "We all needed to play a wide range of music with different types of people. Then we could come back eight times as strong."

Interesting you posted this because it does seem Wendy & Lisa have branched out and had a pretty good career. Brownmark is still doing his thing, so is Dr. Fink and Bobby is playing drums again. I wonder what Dez is up to and Andre' is M.I.A. as of late, unless I'm wrong but, I would LOVE to see

Prince
