I remember after this set there were a ton of poeple who left disappointed. They wanted to get their "purple rain" on. The rest of us were stoked to get IALRWNL & WILMHOY for the 1st time ever. We know what's up when he plays a club at 1 in the am. Can't wait to relive this night.

I remember one guy posted on here that it was the best show he'd seen Prince do since 1988. I was kind of bored to tears by the audio. Hope the dvd is better (I've enjoyed the video of it so far)

and that's the sad state of affairs with people regarding prince's music ..they only want 1984-1986 and can't imagine he's done other great work and can put on a show that doesn't stay in a time capsule. glad u had fun that night and i've enjoyed shows 2 and 3 more than the 1st one where it was where people could have got "their purple rain on"

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I'm sorry, but I don understand this: so if it was Pro shot then that means that Prince allowed for these cameras to film his concert... Then once it has been pro filmed Prince does nothing with the footage. But in the meantime the film makers have put together this DVD to sell with all the footage from that night - is that right? And Prince makes no $ from it?

ALL Prince concerts have been recorded and filmed (one-angle camera) since the beginning, and all have been pro-shoot since at least the early 90's I think.

Sometimes someone from the crew manages to steal a copy. How do you think we got all these soundboard and pro-shoot boots circulating? It's called bootlegs. Welcome to Earth biggrin

So IIUC this one not out yet?

Like this one? Like Montreux? Like which one?

No, not like these ones.

The '84 Birthday soundboard, The Feline rehearsal, First Ave '86, The White Girls rehearsal, the Box Of Chocolates release, the 4df soundboard series, etc etc.

All these and many more were originally free releases that were then pressed up and sold on discs.

The new 4DF parade boot has already been sloted for a pressed release.

I have a slow computer that really can't download large files very well. I've always bought pressed releases simply due to the fact that very few are willing to copy dvds and send them in the mail anymore. When I used to trade, I always was willing to copy for anybody that wanted stuff.

What I do dislike is when I keep reading on review sites is the opinion that buying pressed releases is stupid. For some of us, it is the only option. Of course Eye is shooting themselves in the foot with the 90 minute cds. If I can't easily copy it to protect myself from potential scratched discs, then I won't buy it. It's not like blank 90 minute discs are easy to find either...

If more people were willing to copy stuff, I'd probably stop buying the pressed releases...

By the way, in no way am I asking anybody on this site to copy anything for me. I'm speaking of those on other sites I have asked, and had poor luck.

There are those out there that have traded with me, and I am thankful that a few out there still do. It seems the U2 fan community is a little better with trading, but to be fair, U2 have a lot more fans out there into bootlegs and trading. I hate to admit that, but it's true.

Funny how somebody who has absolutely no interest in releasing a live DVD keeps filming and recording everything. With my luck, he'll release a DVD of Shelby and Andy singing 10 songs, and him doing Kiss where he holds the mic out for the audience to sing... smile

So true! That's why it's confusing - if he doesn't release the footage as dvd's 2 make $ why does he pro-film them?
And why hasn't he caught up with the ppl who supposedly "steals" the footage - are u sure Prince isn't the one releasing it & wants u 2 think it's bootlegged :hmm2:

Anyway who cares I guess, as long as we get 2 see more of P

Prince has a sense of archives and even if it's for personal use he wants everything kept in his vault. And there is a strong possibility that he has long-term plans for all this material, either to be released when he gets older, or even post-mortem (who knows...).

The people who allowed live soundboards pro-shoot to filter were often people not from P's team but from the venue's team, the filming crew or the TV channel (in some cases when TV crews filmed or had the show). As for studio outtakes and rehearsals, Alan Leeds said a few years back that they'd tried to find if there were "insiders" at the time, because so much stuff was leaking, but that in the end most material leaked from tapes Prince gave to musicians, girlfriends, friends or record companies executives (for possible use by other artists). Leeds was clear about the fact that all this material was leaking against Prince's wish.

But Leeds isn't here anymore, so how do we know? We know because we know WHERE the tapes come from, or at least there's always a few people here who know. I know where the Cannes 2010 aftershow comes from (a friend of mine was there when someone sold the tape to someone else, that very evening in the club itself). Other people here confirmed that the Montreux shows had been leaked by someone from the festival's staff (Montreux contractually has a right to film and archive every show performed there even if most aren't released or broadcast in the end, and hopefully the 2007 show will leak one day). We know that most Exodus and Madhouse 24 outtakes and possibly some more stuff from the mid 90's come from people at Edel Records, who had received master tapes from Paisley Park for possible future releases. I have heard rumors that Small Club was leaked by someone working at the club itself bac then. We know that someone at Canal + secretly filmed the 1994 rehearsal before the Nulle Part Ailleurs show, etc.

The only big mystery is City Lights/Studio Nights, I've never heard anyone saying they know where all that stuff came from, but obviously from someone who didn't have access to anything recorded after the end of the Parade Tour. Probably a Revolution member, a sound engineer or some other staff who got fired or left in late 1986.

The fact that not a single outtakes has filtered since Paisley Park became a private studio in 1996, at a time when Prince wouldn't tape anything to anyone anymore, is a proof in itself. Also, I think it was Chronicfreeze or Koppleman who explained that when an engineer was sent to find a particular tape in the vault, a security guard would have to be there at all time and make sure nothing was being stolen or copied in the process.

In the end it's like this other thread about illuminatis: we have ex people from Prince's camp saying that prince never allowed a boot, reasonable explaination for the emergence of all the circulating material, and nonetheless people who will swear on this forum that Prince is behind eveything. Don't believe hysterions wink

Peace smile
