OldFriends4Sale said: i said you were right about everything except my drawers.my drawers don't have jesse on guitar.it's all prince.and i'm glad that you have a friend who knows details about recording sessions, but if you listen prince for a long time and if you're musician it's easy to distinct when prince plays some instrument. But anyway there are other orgers who know it's prince on my ddrawers.ask blackguitaristz or don't ,just listen to the song

Well by the Time Ice Cream Castles was about, Jesse was playing Prince's style pretty good

Blackguitaristz isn't around anymore that I know of. I've listened to the songs since 1984...

No problem I'm just trying to get correct info, no need for the attitude

Nothing really established by this

I strongly belive it's Prince. Jessie's sound and style is completely different. Listen to "Jungle Love". That's Jessie. Compare the two. Prince is playing all the the guitars on all The Time's albums except for Jungle Love. If you notice, Jessie wrote Jungle Love as well.

haha oldfriends thank you for this smile and noo i don't have attitude.back in 2004 i also thought it was jesse on my drawers, but after z said me about my drawers i had a listen and he was right it's prince on guitar.songs by the time on which jesse plays guitar are:jungle love solo.if the kid can't make you come. Jesse plays guitar solo on a song jerk out, rhythm guitar is prince.jesse also plays on most of the songs on pandemonium.

Either way, 'My Drawers' has got some of my favorite guitaring of any Prince-related track. Awesome track.

I have no secret info but it's always sounded not very Prince-y to me, being a more riff-centric song. In my head that sort of stronger slashing rhythmic playing is more JJ. But of course I could be wrong.

you are wrong smile and prince have tons of riff laiden stuff.listen to the right hand of the guitar.listen to his attack.it's prince

However, there were dissensions in the studio, and guitarist Jesse Johnson, who was strongly involved in the project, was disappointed in Prince's strong control over the group, "He only let me write and produce on the last Time album because he knew I was quitting, and when I quit anyway he took my production credit off. I wrote, played and produced stuff like 'Jungle Love.'"

I have it on good authority from my source of "No Person in Particular" the following happened.

One day Morris was cooking bacon in the studio. Prince objected to bacon being cooked in such close proximity. THIS was the last straw for Prince's patience. He said to Morris "Why the hell are you cooking so much damn bacon?" Morris shrugged and responded, "Who doesn't love bacon?" The band got terribly quiet. It was then the following happened. Prince looked at Morris and threw his spatula and said, "It is either the bacon or the band. What time is it, brother? " Morris grabbed another spatula off his belt (how COOL is that?!?!) and said "It is always time for bacon" Morris laughed & then he continued cooking bacon. (Who wouldn't though? It is bacon and you got the stove on, why the hell not?) Prince immediately shut down the studio and sent everybody home. The Time had run out of sand in their hourglass.

Folks, this is completely disgraceful. The Time broke up over cooking bacon in the studio! And my source "No Person in Particular" is VERY credible.

HERR?! lol Over bacon, what???

Anyway, I think it was only Prince and Morris on "Cloreen". I only heard the drums and the bass. No guitar. If it had been, Jesse would've been on it too but who knows?

The basic tracks were recorded in studio 2 at Sunset Sound starting on Wednesday, January 11, 1984. Over the next several days, Prince spent a lot of time working on the song, which included additional work by Jesse Johnson who recorded his solo soon after that. In the end, Jesse was unhappy with the way Prince mixed it. This is based on personal interviews with Jesse Johnson while doing research for the book PRINCE: The Studio Sessions. Hope that clears that up a little bit.

no this is not true, the guitar player on my drawers is prince.don't let sound effecs fool you

I can understand the confusion regarding this. You may have some additional information that I don't have. Mine is based on a personal interview with Jesse Johnson when he told me:

"(Prince) would do things like turn the solo way, way down like on My Drawers, there is a solo that is so fucking tiny, it’s like why’d you even have me do a solo? But that kind of stuff he did when I was there. It wasn’t like I left and he turned it down, he did it and we just accepted it. The Time was his shit, and he was in charge and he could do whatever he wanted to do, so I wasn’t going to sit and argue a lost cause.”

The tricky thing about this is that Prince may have replaced his guitar work. I don't know for sure. So much of the work done in the studio is shrouded in mystery.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Methinks the Prince & Morris conversation has been highjacked by a Prince & Jesse argument... Oh well, it's OK as long as we're getting new info biggrin

I'm just saying, I think of riffy songs being mostly the domain of JJ. The "rock" songs on Pandemonium, for example. Even the stuff on the new O7 CD that is JJ has still got that distinctive style to it.

Not that it couldn't be Prince too, I'm not saying that. It could be either dude. I'm just saying that it's interesting because to me My Drawers "sounds like" a JJ song in that riffy way. No doubt Prince could have aped that style, or just arrived at it separately, if he wanted to.

I'm pretty sure that he was up all night reading Prince.org's talk about his work and decided to inform the guys this morning that all of our fussin' and feudin' has made him want to get out of the group again. I can think of no other reason for his leaving! lol

Jesse: Guys, I'm done.

Jimmy Jam: why Jesse?

Jesse: The 'org. I'm tired of all the fighting.

Terry: (shaking his fists skyward) PRINCE DOT ORG!!!!!!

(and scene)
