He should've just released the original damn track instead of getting her to cover it and piss on a classic like this. "Oui Can Luv"??? God, that's corny! Prince, stop playin' around and having your latest fuck-of-the-month re-record (and basterdize, I might add) your shit and just give the fans what they really want. Cuz, it sho'nuff ain't this shit!

I like her version, haha, but that we can love is pretty funny, I was like what did she say, We can love!? I was all singing along.. She made it sound good, I think Prince is just experimenting with her voice.

Prince fans don't all want the same thing.

Prince has a very diverse fanbase that want different things.

Can Prince provide them all? No.

Speak for yourself, please?

I never said "all" of them, so back off.

"Back off" falloff

"Give your fans what they want" is a generalization, mind you.

I don't think she did a bad version, per say, but it does sound like a bit of a cop out. Literally any song would sound good performed with her tone, stoic pacing and sultry delivery. So while, yes it's good, I'm not excited or impressed by what I heard. Instead it coms off to me like cheap theatrics. Wake me when they got something more poppin off.

OK, not too bad but only a minute long which isn't enough time to really care.

I like it. She has a nice voice.

But is prince trying to convince us she can play guitar by having just audio? Damn prince, we know it's you in the background. lol

It's the first thing I've heard from her that I find the least bit impressive. Because based on what I've seen of her on stage with Prince, I was not convinced that she could sing or play. On the performance videos I've seen I wonder if her guitar and mic are even plugged in.

Thanks. If a minute of it drove you insane I'm not listening. After listening to three songs by Andy it starts to annoy me, although I really like two of her original songs. Don't like all the gargle so I won't bother listening to her one minute cover of a song by my favorite artist.

I didn't mind all the banter going on about P's teeth, her teeth, P's bulge showing, her "spectacular" tits, whether he'll be 70 on dialysis with a hot 20-something w/ a "golden shovel" in her pocket ... blah, blah, blah, who cares.

But I have to say, THIS makes me mad/sad. Not sure why. I think it's because it's a great, funky song, and I don't like that he's giving it over to her - I thought he didn't like people doing covers of his songs, particularly if they didn't do it justice. It's not that it's slower - the guitar sounds great (obviously, it's not her, right?) - but the lyrics and the voice completely gut the original of what made it fantastic. Based on her own songs, this is not even her style - "funky" is not her style. Where's his artistic righteousness now?

Yes it's a very cool cover and all, but there might be something more to this post than meets the eye.

we know everything out of the Prince camp is calculated and cryptic, so put on your tin foil hat and humor me for a second.

Her original post reads:

"Check out what eye found in Prince's Vault"

..and the lyrics go:

I could tell you stories till you get tired.

I could play with your mind

But you probably say I was a liar, so I wont waste your time

and ends..

"I could tell you things that gets you excited, things you never heard"

So if you crank up you tin-foil hats to 11, the obvious conclution to deduce from this is we are getting music from the vault. Right?

Well, the original title of the first version of it that Prince did in '83 was called "We Can F**k", supposedly, so this new title is just a clean version of that first one... lol

I know all of that.

Again. I want her to sing "we can funk."

if she could funk, maybe she would.

That was pretty good.

You can't blast vocals when all you have for music is a soft guitar. She did it right.

For along time I've feared he would release an acoustic album with versions of his songs. I really hope that he isn't planning this with this Andy girl.

I just find this acoustic stuff deadly dull. A lot of people just go gaga for acoustic songs and I'm not just talking Prince so I guess there is a Market for it.

Well, I'm the first to say Andy Allo doesn't add much to Prince's live performances, but I like this cover.

  1. Her understated delivery (add me to the Suzanne Pleshette fan club, please, rdhull. Thanks for the '70s reminder) worked for me here.
  2. She managed to bring some intensity to it.
  3. I can see this being used in the teaser part of an indie thriller or selling some product aimed at twentysomethings.

It isn't about whether Andy Allo can sing or not, cause she clearly can. I'd be much happier, if she's send snippets of her own songs, so that we can decide for ourselves if we wanna listen to her, but what is misleading that she's constantly leading us to believe it is all from the vault or from Prince or whatever a new P song. For people who don't like her voice, it's bloody annoying.

Now the Q is: Should we grateful for alternate versions/snippets that we get to hear from Andy coming from the P camp or just ignore all?

I get excited everytime and realise it's fuck up of everything that man portrays to me. Maybe it's time to let this go for a while, and come back when something proper materialised of P own voice, cause i can't cope with this anymore. wink

Oh and about the cover. I liked it, I wish there was a full version though. It was a nice difference from the other Prince versions.

It's not the be all to end all and it does give a very different twist to the original and the unreleased version. Sexified and slowed down for your aural pleasure..or as evident here in spots, displeasure. I think its super ("Stephanie..nobody says super anymore"-Old boyfriend dude from Saturday Night Fever) ina quiet jarring way to hear it in this version.

Now here's a lil association. There is this group that did the same thing with 17 Days. I've loved this version for years. It got clowned elsewhere but still its nice for a fall day. I had it on my myspace profile for years when myspace was still all the way vogue lol. Try and listen to this version of an acoustic female lead vocal of 17 days akin to this Andy Allo-vera version.

Its the myspace page of Nanang Tatang..its their album. 17 Days is the third song.

OMG, no u didn't MadamGoodnight!!

No you didn't. lol

I'm not trying to be mean but I earlier this year, I did hear one of Andy's songs & the 1st thing that came 2 mind was:

She sounds like a female Keith Sweat! eek

And that turned me off really, really quick on her voice & my ear just gave up on her potential.

That she needs her own style of sound, and not that of Keith Sweat.

I know it's a matter of opinion but it still blows my mind when people say Allo can't sing.

I understand if they don't like her style of singing, that's another story.

I however, LOVE her style.

Her version of Kanye West's "Lost In the World" was phenominal.
