Just heard one of you guys talking about Sheree's version of Ronnie talk to Russia - and I just found it on Youtube - and it is a different song altogether, not even close: http://www.youtube.com/wa...etlhpYb2cQ

I was a little disappointed though - a cover of that song!

Yes. As kindling for the fireplace.

Seeing how conservative and harmless Prince has become I find it amusing that he was once considered "dangerous."

I miss that Prince. wink

Thanks for the link ! and yeah strange it is a totally different song with the same uncommon title !

The stupid thing by the time this was released in 1988, Ronnie had already been talking to Russia for a few years and deals had already been made so it doesn't really make any sense in 1988..

But Anna Fantastic huh... strange but true smile

Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

Yeah, well maybe she is singing about a different Ronnie smile

Well, it totally puts into perspective, anyway, how strange but true the Prince song is.

she killed John Lennon, shot him down cold
she tried to kill Reagan, everybody say gun control!

Great show, as usual, guys, but...c'mon! Your first show since the Montreux DVDs surfaced and you don't even mention it, esp. after Captain had been blowin' his wad about these shows needing to come out for shows on end--and not even an honorable mention?

Otherwise, nice job. I have a hard time understanding how someone couldn't like "Do Me Baby"--that was slow jam that became the model for all others--but, hey, to each his own.

I make the same point above. Except it is MC who jets around the world watching Prince concerts and coming back with tales of Montreux, not Captain.

My Rhino 180 gram Controversy arrived today.

It sounds amazing. I almost didn't bother getting it.

Now I just got 1999.

I second that hope.

Glad Sexuality got some love. That's one of my all time favorites. I never got that the flowers on the back being about a Hawaiian shirt. Thank you! That said, it's funny how I never thought the tourists section didn't make much sense, but you do have a certain point ... with which I disagree. wink

Now I can't blame a guy for loving Ronnie Talk to Russia, but personally, it's one of Prince's worst songs. Music & lyrics are both too cheesy! It comes very close to ruining Prince's, dare I say it, second best album--no wait, he did release 1999, PR, SOTS, TGE, etc. Hmm. Ok, I'll put Controversy as third best.

They don't talk about unofficial releases - should Montreux ever come out as an official release, I've no doubt they'll be all over it.

Hmm, I'll play along.

Captain, not only are you wise but you have been blessed with great humour too. Surely the Gods were smiling upon you on the day that you were born.

Also, I believe you were the only one that stuck up for Dirty Mind and claimed that it and Controversy were just about equal in terms of quality. When you guys do your review of Dirty Mind and the other three realise how silly they were to dismiss it as inferior to Controversy be sure to have an excerpt of this episode ready to play to prove your superior instincts to them. wink

Haha biggrin It's strange because when I listen to Jack U Off I'm in a happy mood, but whenever Delirious comes on I get bored pretty fast. And the two songs are pretty similar. Forget Let's Go Crazy/Delirious, he should play Let's Go Crazy/Jack U Off (Instrumental).

Hey, Peach & Black--would love to hear you do a review on the new Original 7 album and the documentary. Could that be a possibility? I would love to hear your take on it. So far, I'm really enjoying this CD. cool

We haven't reviewed any associated artists yet (for no particular reason)

but with both the fDeluxe and 7ven albums out this year

we are seriously considering it smile

Chaps, another excellent podcast - one of your best certainly. Love your critiques and pointing out those little Princely musical noodlings which Prince started to express with this album. Also appreciate the love for "Sexuality" - top, top song - and Players' somewhat blushed appreciation of its' sexiness - very funny. Your podcasts, for me, are definitely the most anticipated - keep up the good work.

And MC, those Montreux shows....wow...

BTW, the Sheree track is a different track altogether: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Sheree

Produced by one of the dudes from Modern Talking/Blue System.

Edit: oopsie, see it's already been discussed smile

Oh, I just got to the end of the podcast - thanks for the shoutout!! lol So cool! cool razz
